Our second day in Cuba took us across the island from Havana in the west, to Holguin in the east. Here were met up with our friends Anell and Steve who live in the area.
Holguin is a small city with an interesting history. It's located close to several resorts, and is a popular excursion for those looking to get a taste of the "true" Cuba outside the walls of the resort.
I had been here before as a resort goer, so I was excited to explore it at a more leisurely pace as we had several days in the area.
Holguin center square has some beautiful old buildings and statues. In teh background, you can see Hill of the Cross, or Loma de la Cruz, in Spanish. It is a mountain that overlooks the city, and the topic of the next video.

Looks a really awesome city that, nice looking streets and buildings. Also the musicians were cool! I think I would have done the same and gone by horse and cart too. :) ATB

This is a nice little city actually! Quite clean (which can be hard to achieve in countries like this), the people are so amazing and friendly, and the history was nice. We tried so many forms of transportation on this trip - which we thought was really cool! Getting around by horse was one of the most unique - that's for sure!

Cuba is a very interesting country. Its unique in the fact that is isn't "Americanized" like a lot of other places. It has allowed it to be so genuine. Some people like that fact, others don't - as it's VERY different than other places across the globe. They have such great music - and music is very much apart of everything that they do there, so I loved that I could record some of it and use it in the videos.

It doesn't matter if we are in the country or the city - we love walking. We both feel that you can really connect with a place when you explore it on foot and can take your time. This was a great little town!

Is it easy to get from Holguin to Havana? Im planning to go there through an agency and our hotel will be in Holguin.
@DestinationEarth
@DestinationEarth 2 года назад
It's fairly far - so keep that in mind (about a 9 hour drive by car). We took the bus that took a little longer, but we were able to sleep during the night. Most people taking public transit (and not a car) will take the VIAZUL bus. It's the main coach bus company that goes from city to city. If you aren't taking your own vehicle, that is how I would suggest to go. That said, you can also fly, there is an airport in Holguin if you have the funds to be able to do that. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll be happy to answer. You can ask them at info@destinationearth.ca

it depends…there are approximately 700 kilometers….you can travel by plane ✈️ and book from your country of origin…from Havana to Holguin it takes an hour by plane…approximately, if you choose a bus or a train, it takes many hours of travel…[Major Airlines to Holguin Frank Pais Sunrise Airways. VivaAerobus. AirTransat. WestJet. American Airlines. Condor. Sunwing Airlines. AirCanada.]🎉☘️🙏🏻

I want to visit Cuba but how is the wifi connection because I work from my computer??
@DestinationEarth
@DestinationEarth 2 года назад
You could indeed work from your computer there, but it's going to be expensive and perhaps different that you think. Unlike in North America, there really is no such thing as "free" wifi. You can't go to a coffee shop or mall and just connect. Everyone has their own personal wifi that you can access by purchasing a card at the internet store (ETCSA or ETSCA I believe). Cards are about $1 USD per hour of internet time. If you're working for 8 hours a day, you're looking at about $40 a week - which is probably a lot more expensive than at home. In my experience, very few Cubans have "at home" internet access. Typically wifi is only available at parks. That's right, not only do you need to buy a card, but you have to be in a place where you can access the wifi. It's not like data where you can access it anywhere you want. A few things to consider!

Holguin Is north America

Holguin is my hometown, it's a shame you didn't know the progress of Holguin and Cuba in general until 1959 and you would realize that the Castro Communist government has set back the development of this country. Find out more and see what I say. Thank you. Joseph Aguero

Well, you are saying that this was a trip outside of North America. Cuba is a part of North America, in case you didn't know it.
@ervinsiax6419
@ervinsiax6419 2 года назад
Hate to break the news to you but you still haven’t left North America. List of North American countries in alphabetical… Antigua and Barbuda Bahamas Barbados Belize Canada Costa Rica Cuba Dominica Dominican Republic El Salvador Grenada Guatemala Haiti Honduras Jamaica Mexico Nicaragua Panama Saint Kitts and Nevis Saint Lucia Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Trinidad and Tobago United States of America (USA)
@DestinationEarth
@DestinationEarth 2 года назад
Although some of that list is true, places like Guatemala and Panama, etc are Central America, not North America. Someone else has also commented about Cuba being North America. Based on my understanding, we typically don't lump any Caribbean countries (or places like Greenland) in with North America. There are different ways to look at it though - as these are geographically North America, but they don't participate in the North America Trade agreement that you would see with Canada, United States and Mexico. With these differences in perspective, it's hard to say what exactly is true when it comes to lumping countries together, and there are probably several ways to look at it that makes these statements correct.
