I was legit just thinking about how a Green Day musical was probably a lot easier to put together than Mamma Mia since American Idiot was already technically a rock opera
Of course incomparable to Green Day themself, this is Broadway. I have so much respect for both (The band and performers) as a rock musical is never an easy thing to put on or trust a group of people to do! An album is like a child and Billie Joe Armstrong must have had a lot of trust in these guys to let them make it into "American Idiot!" -Broadway Edition-
+Michael Anthony Marella Amazon prime has a documentary about the making of the Broadway show and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The band didn't hand pick performers per se but had tons of input and helped produce, giving final approval. they were very proud of it, and Billie Joe actually played Jimmy in some of the performances.
I know all you Green day fans are going to hate me but before you start its thanks to this show that i am a new fan of the band. 1. these guys and girls are actors 2. They are musical performers not rock stars so i think you calling them is wrong. I am going to be defensive because one of my favourite actors was in it and he is an amazing singer.
The part that the representative of Jingletown sings is the best part in the song. And in the cast version it is actually more eccentric and special. It's more interesting to me than the , never the less awesome, original.
paumayo JTMFlash no, i don't believe it's playback.. But i guess what he was trying to say is that Billie has that really punk voice and their voices were just too idk.. not punk.
This version isn't as good as the recorded version, so you can't really compare live to recorded... And I'm probably going to get hate for this but I like some of the songs in the musical version than the original GD album...
watching this in 2024 when i saw this show live as a high schooler is making me feel ancient lmao. also where’s the revival!?!? seems v relevant to today’s world imo
Bro i would love to go to this cus i freaking grew up with green day and it was actually boulevard of broken dreams and wake me up when september ends were the first ever songs i heard,so i wish i went to these shows, and just go feel like im a punk kid again(which i still am)
This is the sixth video I watch with this cast and I just can't believe that in a country with a population of roughly 320 million they couldn't find 3 guys who could actually sing. The Jesus of Suburbia guy reminds me of a spoiled kid, that's even worse. Just put Billie Joe armstrong in there please.
I would have LOVED to see the show, and I even love the Broadway album, but tbh, these guys cannot sing. And before you go saying "You're saying that because it's not Billie." hush. I'm fine with people doing covers, but putting these guys as the representatives of the musical kind of makes it look terrible to the public eye.
I really love this, but the only thing that ruffles my feathers is the half-arsed air-punching at about 1:14, I think he was scared about falling but that was pathetic :P
I saw this play for what it was it was decent. I think the story suffered with the amount of songs they did. It would be like 2 lines of dialogue, some of which was kind of ridiculous & then a song or 3. Also them trying to dance to Green Day was comical. A lot of some weird head banging shoulder move over & over. I'd probably just see a Green Day concert, & probably for less money than a ticket.
@darkaura0 Well, the way you wrote it I felt that you were critizing the cast and so on. Maybe they shouldn't censor anything? :O Fear of a word only creates more fear of it... wouldn't you agree?
Diana Ruiz just because it's not Green Day. Doesn't mean it sucks it would suck if they were off tempo and way off key. If they have those it does not suck
The "middle" was badly done. It lost the grit and speed that Billie does with it, you know? Even live, it kind of sounds like a radio broadcast instead of a clean song, but they didn't achieve that effect.
Only Billie can sing this song. It perfectly suits to his voice and his style. Even if you are a good singer, you can't sing Holiday enjoyably, since everyone is used to Billie's voice
i just thought it was a horrible performance i can have an opinion and the only reason i didn't like it is because i dont like that style of singing and i didnt know that it was on broadway sorry for having my own opinion
zombiekillerdude 2123 I personally like Green Day's performance of the song much more but this entire broadway show was made and written by Billy Joe so he would probably have a good reaction.
The original Broadway cast recording was good, but this performance was a bit off. A lot of times on live TV, they can't get a good sound check, so that might have had something to do with it.
