I wish they would not mix NATO symbology with pictures of specific equipment from counter to counter.

That serves a purpose in the game. Armor units as NATO symbols are standard armored units. The tank silhouettes are tank battalions attached as support. They give you column shifts. I like it because it's easy to visualize without having to look at the details of the counter to tell if it's support or not.
