This is possibly the best Terminator X install video out there. I learned as much from your mistakes as I did from your successes. Great camera work, especially on the oil pressure sender. Having your car’s wiring exposed like you have really made it easy to see where the wires went. Thanks again.
bought a truck wirth a 5.3 and terminator x max in it, but not complete in parts, this really helped to understand the set up, old school guy, was my first time with a Ls swap thanks, best help I have had
Great video. I’m starting my install on my Turbo Silverado tomorrow! I wish mine would be as simple as yours but it’s still a full interior vehicle. Glad to see it went smooth. Im of the same opinion as you about wiring….
Excellent video! My 57 will be running the Terminator X for sure! I love how simple the system is, installation and you did a great job doing it like everyone will be doing, backyard style with human error. Keep the good work Ken!
I wanna do this for my 72 chevelle elco but will i have to use that screen or is there a way to wirebit to my dash so i have all the stock gage reading working
Thanks for sharing. Found your channel at the right time. Im installing the Terminator X Into a 502 Ram jet crate motor. I am as nervous about it as you were.
Awesome video. Thanks. LC9 swap into our 69 Galaxie Convertible. We are having crank rpm issue where it is not showing crank rpm. Engine runs but were not there yet but close!
Just some friendly advice. Be careful jamming a multimeter probe in a connector pin. It will stretch the pin and cause terminal fretting and u will have intermittent electrical issues. But other than that great video man I was excited to see the car bust off
Can you do a video on the starter wiring? Wired up my terminator and the only issue I have is no rpm signal.... no crank, no start. It's driving me insane
I love it very nice I feel a little better you made it very helpful now I can make up my mine thanks so much for sharing my question can I use a painless wire harness with it that has fuses and start up switch for a race car Gauges and lights or street race car
Thanks you literally help me finally turn my truck on after 2 years ! Been waiting about 8 months on mechanics that said they will finish up the wiring for me watched this video and did it myself and now it’s running . By any chance did you make a video wiring up the transmission harness or you haven’t done it yet?
This is literally why I made this video! So glad you were able to use it to get your truck running! We’ve not yet swapped transmissions yet, but when we do we’ll be sure to include the Terminator harness details as well. 👍🏻
@@SpyderGarage yes very much appreciated!! Saved me time and money! . Even without the transmission control installed your able to drive the car or no?
@@floridashitglee9387 Oh we’ve driven it thousands of miles without it. The TH350 doesn’t require the controller and the Terminator is fine if it’s not plugged in. 👍🏻
How did you go with the injector selection in the end? I’m about to purchase the 550-903 Unit for my LS1. I have the same injectors as yourself but can’t find any information on them and Holley doesn’t have the specifications either.
Great video! Where the MAT sensor connects into the intake at 5:34 do you have a part number or could anyone point me in direction I need to find something similar to that size grommet? Thanks
Where did you pull from for starter exciter wire? Said you’d cover it first minute of video and don’t see it mentioned at all. Also don’t see any mention about alternator.
If I got the terminator x max ls1 24x (550-919) am I restricted ls1 motors or am I able to go any 5.3 4.8 6.0 with the system ? Got it for a steal on market place lol thanks in advance haven’t gotten a clear answer
Did you ever get the actual data for the GM 12555894 injectors. I am just about to install this xmax with the exact same engine setup you have in this video. If you have can you share?
Awesome video thank you very much. How did connect your fans im having trouble understanding this part. Also one thing you might have missed to let us know is that the terminator x for some reason doesn’t come with a connection to alternator.
Yeah I had originally gone very detailed into that part of the dual fan setup but the video got too long, plus that wiring harness wasn’t technically part of the Terminator X kit either so I cut it out. As for the alternator, I briefly mention that there are 11 pages included in the manual regarding how to hook up your alternator and I explain it as well as I can, to include the resistor.
What’s up question. I brought a 1986 Chevy caprice with LS swap. Terminator x max lights never lit up hand held comes on. VVS not plugged in nor speed plug. Will those not been plugged up cause the ecu not to communicate?
No those are not required in order for the ECU to work. Case-in-point: They’re not plugged in on our car either because we’re running a non-electronic TH350 transmission. When you say the lights didn’t come on, are you referring to the lights on the ECU itself?
For the moment, it’s just off to the side because the plan was to always install an electronically controlled 4L60e. But I’ve seen guys who have retrofitted their throttle bracket to accommodate a kick-down cable as well.
None of your gauge cluster would work other than maybe fuel level. With an auto transmission, you can have the holley control that and the handheld screen will display all of that, but its small. Its expensive but Dakota Digital makes gauges that would replace the stock gauges and interfaces off of the holley giving you all the readouts your old dash has. Highly recommend but its like $1K+ i think.
You mentioned the grounds on the back of the heads. The heads are aluminum so shouldn't you be putting the ground on the block? For all I know this is a stupid question but I do know the heads are aluminum.
@@SpyderGarage man for some reason I’m still not able to get power to the fuel pump- it’s a Holley in tank unit so it’s not that loud but damn I thought I would be able to hear it prime at least
@@SpyderGarage man I apologize. I tried posting this on the video before and I guess as it was changing videos it put it on this one instead lol. Sorry nice build though
Hi. I’m about to pull the trigger on the same system for my 1998 LS1 with 4L60E. Do you have the part number please. 550 916 is the one I’m looking at. Also. Do I need to get the injector harness separate or does it come with the kit ? Thanks for your time. Great informative video.
As long as you have the stock Bosch EV1 injectors, then yes, the 550-916 is the correct part #. And yes, you will need to purchase a separate injector harness for those style injectors. It doesn’t come with the Terminator kit because injector choice varies so much between cars that Holley keeps the kits separate.
Do you know if they sell the handheld separately? I have a x max the only thing I had to do was buy a ev1 to multec harness separately but I bought it second hand and it did not come with the handheld it did come with a Holley 7.5 inch screen though
Can you still use the terminator x max wiring and have it still plug into dash? For example if you have oil pressure hooked up to the terminator x max but you don’t use the terminator x gauge thing can you still have it going to a different dash?
If I’m understanding the question, yes, you can install a T-fitting for a mechanical gauge underneath the Holley pressure transducer that feeds the CAN (handheld) or you can splice the wires and feed a separate electronic oil pressure gauge. But doing that will void Holley’s warranty.
@@SpyderGarage gotcha. Just asking because I got a neat little cluster and would like to be able to reuse the stuff like coolant temp, mph, voltage, oil pressure, and fuel %. It’s a jegs electric dash cluster thing. Also wouldn’t a T fitting cause it to read oil pressure half of what it is or just off? Might just have to deal with it lol or just not hook up oil pressure to the terminator. Rather see it on my cluster than in the data log imo
@@SpyderGarage also how’s it still going with the terminator x? I’m looking into getting the terminator X Max for ease of tuning and for when I eventually wanna go with some turbos. Still just something to think about and do some more research about. But what’s your opinions after a few months of it still?
@@SpyderGarage that’s awesome I think imma order within the next month or two and install it this winter in my 2nd Gen camaro. Along with paint and bodywork lol. My only thing is just getting used to it but from what I’ve heard it’s 10x easier than hp tuners
Lol. Umm… yes, but I mention it because it’s a choice you have to make. You can use it so long as you’re using a stock style fuel pump that doesn’t require more than 15 amps. (Also, run it to the “grey” wire and not the purple as I incorrectly did the first time)!😉
For the video, I ran a longer wire to it from the rear mounted battery, but otherwise, it’s just hooked up like normal. (I even noted in the video how I accidentally knocked that wire loose)
At idle if the engine is turning 800-1000 rpm, are you sure the tps should be zero? At idle I would expect to see 15% roughly. Maybe the Holley is different than GM.
We’ve since learned that a cold start will run a little rich AFR-wise and idle will be a couple hundred rpm higher. Once it’s warmed up it all goes back to normal where we set it.
The TPS on Stand alone ECUs (not just Holley) is always calibrated to 0% at idle and Holley EFI specifically says to recalibrate the TPS if/when the throttle itself has been reset IE throttle/idle screw turned in/out. That's because the Holley IAC (Idle Air Control) goes to it's "Hold Position" above 2% TPS. Quote from Holley Instructions -> Important note: "The TPS sensor must read less than 2% for IAC idle control to be enabled. If it is above 2%, the IAC will be forced to its “IAC Hold Position”...
Oh yeah, but I didn’t go into all the detail because there is 11 pages on the alternator alone. Find your particular style alternator in the book and they’ll have all you need in there. 👍🏻
I too have a ls1 swap but on my squarebody. Right now trying to figure out the “Injector off time” with same injectors as you 12554271. It’s not in my hand held device or the Holley software. Are you using the injectors # that are similar or made the correction? Thank you
We used the ‘actual’ injector part # using the laptop software instead of the CAN. It’s not super hard to find the injector on/off times online if you look, but I had a tuner verify my graduated on/off scale just be sure. 👍🏻
Thank you I’ll have to do that. I did buy the CAN but never found the injector also downloaded the new software 2.0 in hope it would come up. Will try it your way thanks again!
N/A--1 bar MAP sensor. DO NOT USE A MAP SENSOR OTHER THAN 1 BAR FOR N/A. There isn't a 1 bar that plugs into the terminator harness without a conversion pigtail, I use a LS3 1 bar sensor with the pigtail. If you're boosted, each roughly 10 PSI of boost requires 1 bar of sensor capability. So 2bar is good to 20, 3bar to 30, 4bar to 40, etc. etc. There is a 2 bar sensor (cobalt SS if I'm not mistaken) that plugs right into it.
@@SpyderGarage cool! Would my factory gauges on my cluster still work, tach. Speedo. Fuel gauge oil pressure gauge? Or would it all be shown on the little touch screen that comes with it?
How long did it take you to install the system? I'm looking to do one in my gmc typhoon which the 4.3 motor us basically the v6 version of your motor just with the 2 cylinders chopped off. Oh and the power adder.
Literally only a few hours. What took the most time was drilling a hole in the firewall and running the wires through it. That’s the only part I didn’t include in the video.
@@jdgreen214 It was, but I will say that Holley will tell you in their instructions what size hole to drill and I would go with that. I “think” they recommend a 2” hole but make sure you read up on it.
