Early Sunday morning on the farm having my first cup. Listening to my local radio XPN. A lovely piano solo playing. Wow, that sounds like Crazy Fingers, It is Crazy Fingers. Did a little research into the musician. Starting with Crazy Fingers stayed with each one after. My horses are probably wondering where their breakfast is. Wonderful stuff Holly! Very moving for this ole Dead Head from way back. Quite moving, a bit teary for the good ole days. Look forward to getting you album. Posted the same on my FB page. Look forward to hearing you live. And I don't go to many shows these days.
This musician carries the anhistorical flame of sixties SF in every note. The woman is a musical alchemist and almost seems to channel Garcia at his best. Lovely, lovely. Many thanks from a fellow alumnus of SFS. Further.
Holly Bowling GETS IT. The arrangements are unique and original with an approach that makes the melodies meet at different intervals each time themes and patterns go and come back. The most important elements exist in one part or another to make the song hold its shape but the way each of the surrounding harmonies that are created change throughout the song, each time they circle back in an evolving counterpoint. My favorite part is the way she accentuates certain notes with a confidence that says, “This one right… here!” I know it’s technical harmonic theory in using some of the basic concepts of counterpoint but it’s apparent that the music she plays is more than just songs to her. She loves them and it comes through in a way that is meaningful heartfelt and beautiful while she tells the story in her own voice. It’s the way that it felt when I heard Jerry sing Wharf Rat for the first time and it was like Garcia was singing to me. He made you feel like he was singing to you, even in a crowd of thousands of people, he was telling the story to each one of us. That takes a person who is willing to own it and mean it every time or at least do their best to and I know Holly Bowling has that kind of voice in her playing. It’s a living composition like what the GD were going for, it’s an approach with inherent excitement at the little surprises that come around each time the piece is performed. I see it in her eyes and on her face, it’s a beaming smile that makes me smile too. Keep doing what you love Holly Bowling! I really appreciate you and find the way you use your passion, hard work, understanding of music theory with the love and care in your touch to make the world a better place for having your music exist in it. I hope you find a litter piece of joy everyday in the way you are using your talent to, “create.” Thank you for putting in SO MUCH HARD WORK so we can have you here in front of us and know that you exist. So we can find you to be so amazing as you share your awesomeness with us. ❤
Indescribably beautiful. Thanks from this 67 y/o Deadhead. What's also heartening is that the audience is quiet-they are LISTENING AND LOVING this gorgeous music. My experience, especially over the last 7 or 8 years, is people go to concerts and drink way more alcohol than they can handle and spend most of the show TALKING.
Came to this after watching a Terrapin Station Medley played by 8 or 10 different bands/individuals, edited together into a seamless whole~~ Holly played the most difficult section, and nailed the orchestral arrangement on solo piano~~ You make your instrument sing~~ Thanks for posting!
Dear Holly, we hope you are following your bliss, because you sure BRING IT TO US when we hear you work. I read so many positive comments, and soul-stirring feelings people express when hearing you. We hope someone is stirring your soul, as you do ours. Keep On Truckin Woman!
This is absolutely incredible! Never thought I would hear Jerry, Bobbie, Phil, Mickey, Billy and Brent all mixed into one, and here it is....On the keyboard....unbelievable !!! (wonder how Mayer would sound with her....??)
Wow where have you been all my life. My Mother has a Steinway. She's 94 and still plays the classic composers. You bring it all together with songs of your own
Hello from the future fellow deadhead! Hi is you Mom still alive? my mother is 94 and no, she dosent play the piano but she loves music......I play my distorted electric guitars in front of her and she loves it. Salutes from Miami
Wow - beautiful Why has this only appeared on my feed 3years later Straight away sent it to my 2 deadhead friends in Scotland (well, 1 of them is in Spain now, and I'm not sure if the other has managed to get back from South America yet, with the current virus crisis) Next, went to Amazon to order the last 2 copies on sale - but only managed 1 - somebody else ordering at same time I presume. So, got the last one, and can't wait for delivery. Keep safe x
I stumbled upon this via RU-vid suggestion. Like wow! Holy fuck - amaze balls. I thought Midnight Oil did a great version (which they do) but this one is off the charts.
you should do goin down the road feelin bad or is that on your cd? you could incorporate this bit keith does in the start of the song on grateful dead movie. or maybe you already have either way you are on heck of a player
