Hollyhock Flower Garden
This flower makes me feel like I garden in a fairytale . Hollyhock is majestic and towers over me. The main stem is loaded with large flowers and can get over 7 feet tall. I cant tell you how happy I get just looking at my Hollyhock flowers. They are super easy to start from seed but take a while from seed to flower because its a biennial plant. I find they take around 5-6 months to start blooming. It is well worth the wait. They are biennial so they live much longer than annuals. If you are in garden zones that have very hot summers, its best to sow seeds in September so they grow during the coolest part of the year. Bees also love the pollen rich flowers.

I would like to say thank you! I lived up north for a little bit and moved back home. All the years I have been back I thought these would not grow here. I bought some of your seeds and they germinated! Thank you so much! I am hoping to have some to share with my parents ❤

I didn't think hollyhock grew well on Long Island zone 7b - and I almost pulled it out thinking it was a weed - but now it's 8 ft tall with gorgeous creamy light yellow flowers. Yes, fairy-tale like!

Are the seeds on your website from your own flowers?

There’s a perennial version as well.

I believe hollyhock is typically considered perennial if it doesn't get cold enough to kill the root system. I have had some survive and sprout again the next year.

@@JerrasGarden Correct. Look up Antwerp Fig-Leaf Hollyhock and Alcea Rugosa (Russian Hollyhock) those are your true Perennials. They are disease resistant. Secondly if you want something even more interesting that is the 2.0 of all Alcea, plant the Hibiscus Syriacus (Rose of Sharon). It’s the shrub or bush version of Hollyhock pretty much. Note they get very large, but are beautiful. I have dozens on the estate that are around 20 plus feet. They should do exceptionally well in your zone.

I planted seeds in the fall, do i have to wait two years for blooms😢

Depends where your located. I'm in FL and they grow pretty quick. I start them from seed indoors from fall thru winter to plant out as soon as my last spring frost date has passed. They start blooming next fall. So technically not a full year. If your up north with cold winters, it could take longer.

I don't really fertilize hollyhocks. They grow huge like this on their own. I do have really good soil from years of composted down wood chips.
