The best tweet I came across regarding this whole Hollywood strike: "The worst thing about the Hollywood shutdown is that now the only entertainment we have is podcasts, RU-vid, videogames, books, music, friends, family, and one hundred years of superior television and film."
I saw Oppenhiemer last night. I hope there is a resurgence of film FILMS! Actually cinematic storytelling as opposed to the circus/amusement park rides passing as movies we've had the past 10 years.
This is where it’s going. The nature of the relatively new instant global communication network is decentralization. There is so much potential these days to make the most amazing art. Hardly anyone even understands this novel world we have found ourselves in as a result of unbridled technological innovation. I think there is a lot to be optimistic about in this world. People are waking up.
Writers wanting more money when the overwhelmingly vast majority of stuff they put out is straight up trash that the consumers are telling them we don’t want is honestly mind boggling.
you do realise that its the studio executives that make decisions whats getting made not the writers and actors there a lot of original and greater writers and ideas the problem is that they don't get pass the initial idea pitching stage cause the studios turn it down cause its not a huge IP or it doesn't have their idilogy in the forefront so they have to rewrite those scripts or scrap it ...
I take you’re point but I’m just hitting on one of the writers, and actors complaints over the recent years has been that they aren’t receiving residuals like they used to, while it is partly true with streaming that residuals are down, the fact that you produce crap that no one wants to purchase because it is straight up trash with no rewatchability means you won’t get large residuals. Yet the unions openly don’t care and have stated as such that they should continue to get paid essentially forever for things no one wants.
@@HumanTouchArt Writers don't have to write it though. If you're talented you can write something that sounds like a jab at one political party but is actually an insult to the other and the execs wouldn't know. Besides, they know the person shares their ideology but not necessarily what is written in the script. There is a lead writer for a reason and even the writers share the same ideology as the execs.
One day I helped a casting agent in San Diego hold auditions for a local commercial for 6 non-speaking roles. All the actors had to do was stand in line, as if they were at a bank. It was my job to have everyone write down their names on a sign-in sheet, and call them in order when it was their turn to "slate" for the camera. 1400 people showed up to this audition. That's when I realized there is no such thing as "working your way up" in the acting world. There's simply too many people trying to make it big.
It does exist yeah it is who you know but those people need to know you can act. James Franco started off at the bottom and worked his way up by consistently putting himself out there.
@@TheUnseenPath I don't think you've understood what I was talking about. Obviously, James Franco was just an average person and "worked his way up the ladder". But what we are talking about here is opportunities that those 1400 actors I was talking about will NEVER experience. Acting isn't like working your way up a normal job. You don't automatically get promoted for showing up, like you do at Subway.
its not about the stars, its all the normal people that make a living and will see their jobs disappear to A.I> If Hollywood can't stop A.I, all our jobs are next.
PBD outed himself as an exploiter and "man of the 1%" by admitting he doesn't support low income earners deserving health insurance, what a piece of crap!
@@WokeOne75 Because America is fed up with pedos, pharma salespeople, grooming, transgender nonsense, I could go on and on. But I have made you look foolish enough.
It’s easy! Fix the declining intellect over the last 30 years in America and people will just stop being Hollywood consumers… You could stop yourself as a start.
For every actor that’s getting financially stressed right now there’s 30 crew members and countless people who depend on this work. They seem not to matter to anyone in the media
@@Deposit-Complaint-Here No, not faces, actors. They are all part of the same machine. I've been on a set and acting may look easy but you try keeping it up for 12+ hours, matching intensity, only to have your part get cut out or you have to re do your scene, get up at around 4-5am to be at the call site at 6am. You're thinking of A listers but most of us don't get that far and start off at the bottom and are therefore less than the director.
Neither do the upstart actors we're nobody's to them you're thinking of the A listers. Besides that's easy to say if you work in any other industry where your work is guaranteed. You might be a blue collar/white collar worker but at least you didn't have to audition for a job with a 99% rejection rate.
Sadly, I learned about the strike via recent RU-vid coverage. I sad “sadly” because such is the level of crap they’ve been churning out in the past 5-10 years (with a few exceptions) that I honestly didn’t notice they stopped. Dvds, books, podcasts, YT, older shows on Hulu, Asian dramas…Hollywood could end now, and it wouldn’t affect me one bit. As for the workers, I feel badly for the backstage crew and equipment handlers, but the actors and writers - not so much. They were silent when so many lost their jobs but want the entire country to rally around them when they want more pay. Pass.
the difference is technology is changing what actors are needed for and how much. is it just an actor for voice work and ai and cgi do the rest or is it more then that. that’s why background actors and part time workers are effected the most. ai will write bad scrips but you might need only one guy to fix it not a team. it’s going to be interesting to see what happens and where it goes
@@WokeOne75both were garbage movies are overrated the fun part for me is seeing liberals who want everyone to have something for free complaining about not having enough because inflation has gone up from government spending and subsidies there cost of living they can’t afford to live in their bubble
Exactly Ty smh but they are basically proving how hypocritical they truly are because ultimately it all about “THE MONEY” 😂 …for the love of money is the root to all EVIL.😉
Utter nonsense ! MOVIES ARE MAKING TONS OF CASH! 2023 JULY BOX OFFICE GLOBALLY: Little Mermaid $550m Barbie- $470m Oppenheimer and Barbie grossed over $235.5m IN ONE WEEKEND!
@@sevensages5279Hate to break it to you but the Little Mermaid Bombed at the Box office. Here is why. The movie cost roughly 200 million dollars to make but marketing which is usually half of production usually more. That brings the total to 300 million all together. However the kicker is that the theaters like Regal, AMC etc gets half of the box office gross. So take 300 million times two and the true break even point is $600 million dollars.
Honestly, I really feel like the best thing entertainers and writers can do during this time period is try to create an economy outside of Hollywood for film and TV. The Hollywood machine at its core will probably never change. That's why I have so much admiration and respect for Angel Studios. They felt like Hollywood was not a place where they could make their type of content, and they decided to go out on their own, make their own studio and marketing divisions, and produced two films and 1 TV show. Both movies made 10 times their budget, and their TV show "The Chosen" has over 100 million viewers. If there was ever a time period for creatives to leave Hollywood, and go independent, now is the time. There is a market for independent filmmaking. To quote Field of Dreams, "If you build it they will come."
That’s the whole point of the strike. They don’t want to do their own thing. They want to do other peoples things, with all their demands, and be paid how much they want to be paid. The have no idea how to live in the real world or have a real world job. I’m a crew member who is bleeding out due to these selfish privileged unions striking. But I’m trying to get a job in another industry. It’s not easy, but I’m not gonna sit around and wait for this to be over. But writers and actors feel they are above that. So they will go till broke, instead of pivot and get another job.
@@xl4196 As a union member, from a family of union members. The truth is they have great benefits if you can overlook the corruption and nepotism. Lazy, High, on the phone, yet still expect to be paid absurd amounts of money. The union is only ever looking at how much they can benefit FROM YOU.
@@xl4196 when you put it like that, it sounds even more stupid. With the amount of resources that the members of SAG have, they could easily create a market outside of Hollywood. I'm sorry to hear that your job has been affected by the strikes boss, that sounds incredibly unfair and wrong.
Bahahaha, Angel Studios? Angel Studios didn't make Sound of Freedom, they simply inherited the distribution rights when no one wanted them. Sound of Freedom is a fictional embellishment of Tim Ballard's life with stuff that never happened, *even according to Ballard himself*. Conservatives have fallen all over themselves with this st00pid pedophilia conspiracy stuff, even though a) Hollywood has covered trafficking before and much more successfully in Taken and other films b) the vast majority of trafficking takes place outside the US and often related to your PORN addiction, in Asia and Eastern Europe, young females are promised modeling jobs, and then forced into porn or cam'ing, Andrew Tate being a GREAT example of trafficking. c) the largest pedophile rings have turned out to be priesthood in the church. I mean, we're literally back to st00pid QAnon Comet Ping Pong, because MAGA id1iots are too dumb to tell the difference between overseas trafficking, child soldiers, child slave labor, child models, etc Guy literally goes into a jungle to rescue a kid from Latin America, and you're all like "see, it's cause Hollywood people are running child sex dungeons in pizza parlours! There's like hundreds of thousands of kids enslaved in Africa right now, often digging Tantalum and other important minerals needed for your iPhone's semiconductors out of the mud. Maybe YOU should stop contributing to child slavery.
I stopped keeping up with Hollyweird a long time ago. It is so sad to see people who could have so much influence to the good to be so perversely wrong.
One of the reason why Jet Li rejected The Matrix 2-3 due to the fact the production company wanted to scan & document all of Jet Li's Taichi movement and not pay him for future usage. That was 20 years ago
Older movies are better because there were no political correctness and cancel culture. We had, authentic uncensored stories. Cancel culture already cancelled all scenes that can be in a good movie.
I absolutely love old movies. That's all I watch. My wife hates it because I'll put on Tombstone or The 5th Element for the 8 hundredth time this month.
You people are clueless. Lots of old movies had political correctness, it's just that now you've totally internalized the social advancements hollywood brought you as normal and decent. You don't think To Kill A Mockingbird didn't have a message? Philadelphia? The Color Purple? The Grapes of Wrath? The Deer Hunter? Schindler's List? Gandhi? How about "Guess who's coming to dinner?" It's hilarious how your right wingers constantly pine for a good ole days that never existed. Remember when Hollywood movies didn't have any big social crusade message, didn't criticism majority viewpoints or systemic inequities in American society? Oh yeah, never. Here's the thing, cause I see this with people like Tyrone Magnus. When you're younger and apolitical, you don't pay attention to the messages in movies, only the story. Then when you get to your 40s and 50s+ and set in your ways, any message that criticizes the way the world works, you get angry, meanwhile, you are proud "of how far we've come" and you count up and tally all of the improvements in US society 1940-1990s, pride in being an American, but totally ignore how hard people fought for these things, how hard your parents and grand parents fought against them, and how they likely viewed Hollywood meddling in the 20th century just as bad as you view it now.
That's just not true at all. If there was social media back when older movies came out there would absolutely be people just like you saying they are woke. The only thing that has changed is social media, not the movies themselves.
From writers, to actors , to its executives, Hollywood hate’s it’s audience. I understand not all of them do, but enough of them do. I’m okay with this collapse.
You took the words out of my head. I hope all these mother f*ckers go broke . If the writers and actors think they're the shit , start your own damn company and make the movies you want to make if you can afford yourselves, that is.
To be fair to the owners and executives. like Bob Iger. Disney stands to lose a lot of money off movies like Indiana Jones and the Waste of Time movie. Like 300 million and that money was paid to the workers and writers and staff who made it, to third party companies, so it is not a waste of money in that it was invested in the community and lives of those in Hollywood. By the way remember Tiger Blood Man himself Charlie Sheen. He was NOT Greedy or Crazy. He was getting paid 1.5 million and wanted 3 million but Chuck his boss made like 250 million. So for the money these celebrities make, their bosses make more than 10 or even 100 times the amount or more. Those are the true Oligarchs and are real American Oligarchs. If you think Russian Oligarchs is a negative term, so are those American Oligarchs too, but the truth is those Russian Oligarchs are not wrong for simply being Oligarchs, and yet we pretend they are, and the Western Oligarchs are not.
My Father worked as a Tube Guy for RCA and was with RCA for over 20 yrs; but, when transistors became the big thing, he was given a gold watch and a pat on the back. He was still 10 yrs away from SS Retirement. I've always felt that he should have paid more attention to and learned about the new tech about to take his job. Same applies here. For creative minds, I can't think of a better tool than AI. It's like the swiss army knife for creativity. AI requires Human Creativity. Human Creativity Does Not Require AI; but, if you use it like a paint brush, the Art Universe is your canvas.
I don't think it will work for writing as AI will just take in previous garbage stories and spew out even more garbage. Technically it's not true Artificial Intelligence but rather a text and image pre-processor that tries to predict the next word via a trained model.
Independent film productions need to jump all over this. Have their own rules and start over. I love a lot of actors but I feel like they're producing crap because of woke bs! We should all crowd fund and start one! PBD... get some of your rich friends together and give it a try.
Actors: have never been less likeable or relatable since COVID outed them as clueless imbeciles. Writers: have produced nothing but tactless dated-on-arrival shovelware for the better part of a decade. Actors & writers: We have enough leverage to strike, right? They can't just replace us with non-union talent & AIs? Right???
How about we get some non-Jewish actors and producers back into Hollywood and stop pushing Barmitzvah and Hanukah in every movie. How about we let some Human Beings produce some uplifting positive motivational movies again instead of filling peoples minds with war and smut!
Yup. I have no empathy or sympathy for anyone working within the current Hollywood system. I'm happy to see the whole thing burn down and something new rise from the ashes, just like in the the late '60s/early '70s.
As controversial as this opinion will probably be to pro-AI people, I don't believe we should give AI the power of storytelling in our culture. As terrible as our writers are right now, I still wouldn't give AI the keys to the heart of the culture.
You're mistaken in thinking that writers get to decide what films get greenlit in Hollywood. Blame the studio execs they're striking against for the quality of the films, not the writers.
It's hard for me to express just how deeply I don't care about this strike. I hope it goes on forever. The only losers are the Hollywood elites and the special interest they put into all their shows. This is the ultimate "do what I say or I'll hold my breath until you do!" moment ever. Let's see how long they can hold their breath before "we" die haha. Hope it works out for them.
No, those AREN'T the only losers in this. VAST numbers of others connected to the industry such as food service, set construction, etc. However, I also don't care about the strike due to the BS PC brainwashing every show and movie has become. Last couple of years I've mostly watched Korean movies and TV shows to get away from the US made garbage.
And that's why Tom Cruise and his crew is one of the few G.O.A.T.s left in movie industry, doing everything in his power and influence including literally risking his own life multiple times during filming of each movie and all that just to make the best experience for the audience. Hollywood long forgot who serves who. Be like Tom Cruise & Co., be a professional.
Hahaha.. clearly you guys didn't meet him in person he's like a goofy chimpanzee chasing my girlfriend around a bar.. my God so very embarrassing for him..
@@sh0cktim3 Tom Cruise makes them for the Church of Scientology. Just remember that next time you buy a ticket to see a Tom Cruise movie. Your money goes to Scientology when that happens.
A bunch of millionaires on strike is disgusting and disgraceful to the very act of going on strike... the LOWEST paid writer gets paid $918 per day for the 180 day contract. That's $165,000 per year. The average writer gets over $225,000 a year. And they want full time benefits for part time work??? It is SICKENING!!
As an actor and SAG-AFTRA member, I have a real job. I get what the strikes are about. I get it. But I won’t waste my time on striking but will create my own projects because Hollywood and Unions have failed writers and actors. As a storyteller, that’s what I’m trying to do no matter how long it’ll take me to produce something. Creation is what matters.
I think the writers strike should go on for as long as possible because that way we don't get any more late night talk shows 🙂 I STAND WITH THE WRITERS STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE
I find it funny that the late-night comedians cannot do comedy without someone else writing it for them. Here read this m on key says the grinder player.
1. What if AI produces work that is better than the real thing? 2. Everything now---movies, TVs, etc is crap...everything is literally a reboot, which shows that no one cares about being original. Granted, they are trying to push branding--Star Wars, Star Trek, live re-makes of Disney...but...3. Everything that Hollywood is making is doing nothing but destroying the culture that we grew up on----by pushing an agenda....and no one is buying it. This is why Kimmell and Fallon are no longer funny. And this is why no one cares about the Hollywood writer's strike.
I can't name 100 but here is a list of my 4 Favorite American movies 1. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest 2. The God Father (Part2) 3. Pulp Fiction 4. Terms of Endearment What do you think?
OMG actors on strike.. OMG I hadn't noticed. Life without new movies...continues. In 7 years I have gone to the movies once, that was for Sound of Freedom.
What is happening right now to the 'film' industry is exactly what happened when the music industry collapsed; The compensation of executives is too high for regressing revenue that can't support the business. Hollywood is finished. The good news is that better movies will be made by those folks who have to survive the collapse by going out on their own and actually attract an audience with great stories.
Oh really? Executives are the major costs of a movie?? Actors don't make anything?? Wow maybe get out from under that rock you have been living in for 75 years.
Executives have always made high dollars in every industry but not all of them collapse. You have to investigate why these particular industries are collapsing. You'll find out that no movie is making enough money for their investors so studios and networks are playing defensively in doing all the future moves that will save them money. Unfortunately, these moves always start with cutting the higher costs: humans.
You can make movies like Blair Witch Project for basically nothing. No one needs this woke artificial CGI crap vomiting political messages in your mouth. This might be the start of actually good movies.
I think there is more entertainment watching millionaires gripe over how they aren't making as much as the bigger millionaire than in the movies being produced
My wife loves reading books and she signed up to an online book club. 1,000s of titles to choose from. She likes fantasy type stories. I had a quick look and my conclusion was these books have been produced using AI. Literally an infinite amount of books!! The use of AI goes much deeper than we probably understand!
If only these pretenders hadn't spent the last few years telling us how much they hate the public. There will be no sympathy from us. For once i agree with iger.
Side with the oligarchy. Against your best interest. I like it. I’m with you. I love being emotionally manipulated by the oligarchs to their view of things that keep them propped up and rich. Finally someone agrees with Iger. Down with the Hollywood. Long live the oligarchy. ✊🏽
I’m actually very impressed that Robin Williams knew things like this were already happening when he was alive. You will never ever see or hear, Robin Williams voice or image in anything newly produced because he had it written into his contracts.
Well they have put out movie after movie that has bombed, intentionally it seems. I think the studios are actually saving money by not being able to release movies. The future of film and music is low barrier of entry, little money. Just no avoiding that.
I'll support the actors, directors and writers if they stop putting ESG, gender ideology and extreme feminism in adult and kid movies.. Until then I could give 2 cents what happens to anyone in Hollywood. Let it burn for all I care. The way I see it, Hollywood in its current form, is doing us a favor by not producing any more films right now 🤷♂️ get all the political crap out of Hollywood if you want us to even begin careing whether Hollywood burns or not lol
One day you guys will understand “Hollywood” is just a street in LA. The film industry exists everywhere in the country. “Hollywood” isn’t a monolith. For those rooting for a collapse, enjoy only having reality tv shows for your entertainment.
The actors and writers just saw how much You Tubers and influencers makes by fooling around under covid ... so they was just like "wtf this 10 year old kid makes more then my whole crew just by opening boxes " they just resized how much used they been all this time .
PBD the problem is that it isn't just SAG and DGA. It has put all of the rest of us out too? I am a grip and along with us every single other union is out because of the strike!! The AMPTP and everyone else who makes a ton of money can wait it out. Meanwhile everyone who makes these shows function can not wait it out as we don't make that kind of money. With inflation our wages have gone to $#!+
Hollywood might be moving shop to East coast. I can't say were. Its not NY either but VERY close. All the hint i can give is "1888 waterfront " and hope thats enough of a hint to find
Good video. The movie list was the weakest part of Pat's argument. The GOAT lists will always skew to previous generations, in most related topics including movies/music.
This is a little piece of Heaven getting to ignore the Elite. The last movies I have ever watched was the Lord of the Ring Trilogy. I have no cable, Netflix or any other streaming platform. As for Ron Pearlman - in Darwin's Theory of Evolution, he is the missing link. I am not supporting the people who hate us Thanks!!!
Awesome channel!! The costumer always pays and we've been spoiled with sugar coated crap. We might be headed back to how cable worked but with streaming services and paying a lot more for it. I hope that film making will go back to the 70's were small budget new idea films were created. That's why films were great in the 70's. They went through a similar kinda thing.
The government is moving that budget from cinema to social media influencers because movies weren’t controlling society as well as they had in the past.
Sounds a lot like when the restaurants just started complaining during COVID. The other restaurant owners that were smart adjusted and turned into take out right away and made a pile of money. Whereas the other restaurant just kept complaining and lost money or went out of business. Get with the times or you're out. If they think they are going to stop AI they are wrong. The young writers who are good and can manipulate AI for their benefits will crush these old complainers lol. It won't even be close. Sorry to say but this kind of goes for almost everyone. Get prepared for AI for your benefit. If you snooze you lose 🤖
I'm a Teamster in the film industry. Started in Miami on Burn Notice until Florida lost their incentive. Been in Atlanta Last 10 years. I've worked over 60 movies. I worked on Spider-Man the first one with Tom Holland. The 2nd went to Europe. The 3rd came back to Atlanta and it was during covid. We filmed 99% in Pinewood Studios. I went to the movies to see it and the first thing I told myself was I don't remember going to New York or to any of the places. That's when I Knew that soon they will not need anyone because I can usually tell when they use CGI. I couldn't tell. They spent 200 million in Spider-Man and we didn't leave the property. Majority budget was visual efx. I have worked atleast 12 movies over 150-200mil. I'm familiar with CGI and technology. I believe they already can film a quality movie with no director or the 200 crew member's with A.i. I believe this contract they sign will be the last one they sign. If it's 5 year contract for writer's, actors. After the 5 years is up. They will no longer need us. Jet Lee didn't want to scan his body and moves because he said it took him 30 years to learn and now he will give productions the rights to his moves and can now make a movie without him physically.
Great post. Very interesting. It's almost surreal to watch the death of so many industries happening in real time. My husband & I talked about this recently. Just in the 29 years we've been married, we've seen SO much change. I find it fascinating. However, I emphasize with everyone affected by the strike. Even aside from those on strike, all the support services & the vendors they use & so on. The ripple effect the strikes have on the economy is staggering. I do believe that many of these studio systems are top heavy, but the same can be said for most corporations too. Best of luck to you! I hope everything turns out alright. ✌
Interesting post. The only movie I watched in theatre from 2022-2023 has been Spider Man. It was ok to show off the cgi stuff but honestly regretted not going to see Top Gun Maverick instead. I didn’t know how much I disliked cgi until that movie.
@zaria5785 Cgi was overboard like most Marvel movies. The first Spider-Man man we filmed in downtown Atlanta and made it look like New York. The last one was all green/blue screen. The locations looked very real. The magical flying around on a web and jamie Foxx shooting electricity well that's for the imagination
These are the same writers who’ve given us woke remakes of all my favorite movies and everything modern Hollywood made us put up with since 2015. I’m not missing their writings they can stay on strike forever as far as I’m concerned
Always appreciate your perspective Pat. I'm a filmmaker and musician based in Nashville and work on both the talent side as an actor (I’m on a commercial shoot right now in ATL) and write and produce films as well. I created a pilot based on my life as a lifelong indie musician that just got six nominations at a television festival in NYC (I won best lead actor wow). My point is, it has taken me 6 years to bring my latest project to life - with the requisite private funding and favors and endless battles, and I’m better for all of it. I empathize with the creatives but as a lifelong entrepreneur, I know by experience that art will find a way. If you *must* tell a story, you will. That’s the end of it. And the harder it is to make it happen, the more meaningful, and in some cases, the better the story. Everything is hard. But the flip side of that is, the harder it gets, the more your competition drops off. The hiatus in new content through the streamers is creating an amazing opportunity here in the creatorshpere, RU-vid etc. Disruption always creates new opportunities. Make your own shit. Tell your own story. David always beats Goliath in the end.
“If you must tell a story. You will”. Wow thank you for that. I’m struggling myself right now with giving up on my dreams or to die trying because I financially cannot afford to do it right now. Hopefully I’m in a better position this time next year to accomplish it
Unions are important. One voice can't make itself heard but together they can. What chance you thing a worker has against an elite and oligarchs? See how Amazon and Starbucks workers are abused. What alternative do you suggest, to fight back this exploitation if the unions are helping them to create a better working condition? 😕
I say , "To Kill a Mockingbird," I love it. This movie goes along with the book. Some don't. We had a drive-in theater in our county and the county over when I was growing up in the 60's and 70's. They showed old movies on Wednesday nights. Make movies that don't exploit children.
It’s hard to feel sad for them. Entertainment definitely needs a reboot. We are tired of remakes, constant virtue signaling and arrogance. Enough is enough. Turn it off.
We're familiar with trends like "Woke" and "the new normal" etc. However, I am fond of the notion of "the great push back", when individuals rethink what counts to them. When people start turning to their local communities for role models, entertainment and where they want to spend their time, substituting the chase for "the best" with something more personal and relatable.
When AI can spit out scripts in 10 minutes, and CGI can fill in the talent & action, Hollywood is doomed. Greedy studio execs always made most of the money.
Why are you talking about money? It's about AI that will soon replace all the writers and will keep replicating Actors forever. The money is a separate issue, why don't they interview the writers instead of that crook?
Dear Smellywood writers.. Please continue striking.. You have all my FULL support!! please stand your ground even if it takes FOREVER!! ... HOPEFULLY!!! Dont worry about us, we can keep ourselves entertained here!!!
I had AI write a book for me just for fun reading over the weekend. Let me tell you. It was a captivating book. You don’t need writers anymore. AI will do A+ work for free. These snub noses writers are gonna be bagging your groceries soon. Humans are being removed and it won’t be stopped
I'll tell you I'm in "online school" with 3 credits that I have to REDO because they weren't accepted from a different school. 1 credit I feel has no relativity to my degree. However I used AI for research, to rewrite my responses, for questions I can't ask my ONLINE teacher without waiting 2 business days. I use it to spell check and grammar check, to fix my apa structure. Who needs to pay for anything anymore when AI DOES IT ALL immediately no turn around time.
These companies would have gladly paid this money if the writers and actors would have been making profitable content the past 4 years.... they are just too narcissistic to realize it
1 - Celebrity actors get paid high because they've gotten to a position to be able to leverage high salaries knowing this may be their only work in the next couple years. This is why so many actors (and singers) open businesses, for supplemental income. 2 - Actors also used to make a good chunk of income from residual pay, "royalties" paid based on audience ratings. Streaming has nearly eliminated that for them, the same way it pays less than 1 cent to artists when you play their music on Spotify. 3 - 87% of actors under the actor's union (which is the only way you can get on a bigger show or movie) make less than 26K/year which is the minimum required to qualify for health insurance. The actor's union represents 160,000 actors in the U.S. Actor gigs are extremely hard to get, even with an agent. Most actors are lucky to get an audition once a month. 4 - The UK actor union (called Equity) and writer's union (Bectu) have joined the actor and writer's unions in the US (SAG-AFTRA and WGA). 5 - The actor strike includes a boat load of demands regarding actor safety, stunt double safety, actor and background actor mistreatment and the networks/studios practice of wanting to scan background actors to use their likeness via AI without compensating the actors or giving them control of how their image is being used. 6 - The writer's strike is more about them being whiny in my opinion because they do make between 6-10K/week for writing a show or movie. However, they get hired for much shorter periods (as low as 4 weeks/year) and don't see work for the rest of the year or the next many times. Most work on a model similar to freelancers. AI isn't yet taking their jobs but it's decreasing their work hours considerably. Problem is, the US Copyrights Office has NO real solutions to copyrights of AI yet. 7 - Most actors never get to "make their way up." It's a buddy-buddy system in Hollywood. Theater pays crap too and actors don't easily handle corporate work well due to their personalities but they also have a hard time accepting the new reality that acting is no longer a glamorous career and that they're part-time, freelance workers like tons of other people out there who need another gig or a full-time corporate job.
All that and I still don't feel bad for them. Probably shouldn't have let their buddies get up on their high horse and call me racist, misogynistic and xenophobic.
Hope people like ron can realize they didn't care about people starving during shutdowns, and it's hard to now care about millionaires that can't afford their lavish lifestyle anymore
