Why is everyone pretending that Casper's $22.5 million opening in 1995 was worse than Furiosa's opening in 2024? Entertainment journalists are such morons. $21.5 in 1995 was probably 5 times (10 times?) as many tickets as Furiosa sold. Not even remotely similar. Casper wasn't even considered a flop!

The current Hollywood situation is reminding me of the whole situation regarding network TV struggling to regain an audience in the age of cable, the VCR/DVD, and satellite TV back in the 90s. The only difference is that network TV networks weren't so stupid as to flat out attack their would-be audience by insisting on lecturing that they themselves were superior elite who were supposedly predestined to do the planet's thinking for everyone.

Guys, let’s get something straight: no one sets out to make a bad movie, music, or podcast. Think about it. Who would wake up one day and say, "I'm going to produce a terrible movie," and actually do it? Even with your own videos, you aim to do your best, hoping for success. Creators put in effort and passion, but sometimes things just don't work out. Times have changed. Streaming is huge now, and the economy isn’t great. Hollywood needs to treat creators better, especially with the rise of AI. Creativity deserves respect and support.

Living in L.A. is increasingly stressful. (14:08) Traffic is terrible, the homeless are everywhere, people bring their non-service-dogs into supermarkets even though signs tell them that only service animals are allowed, shoplifting is rampant because law enforcement has been vilified, finding parking can be difficult or expensive, prices of everything have gone up considerably compared to four years ago, sidewalks are poorly maintained by the city, and there are many other reasons why I find life in L.A. not as good as it used to be. But, some people really like L.A. It's great for certain 'newcomers.'

I went to watch Garfield on Memorial Day and saw Escape From Germany is still playing at my local theater. It’s an independent film from Utah about some missionaries who have to escape from Germany just as Hitler is preparing to invade Poland. The primary audience is going to be members from my church, and the Mesa/Gilbert/Chandler area of Phoenix has lots of church members, so the movie has been able to continue playing due to our support. The movie is produced outside Hollywood and stars no big names. It tells a story the audience is interested in and is known to be safe for the family to go see in the theater. When we saw it in April, our showing was on a Wednesday afternoon and there were a lot of people the theater, more than I’ve seen T other recent Hollywood movies. And with the movie being on the road hitting other markets outside Utah, Idaho, Mesa, So Cal, and San Diego, all based on demand, you know this movie is making money. Indie films have their place and they just may be kicking Hollywood’s trash

Did you take inflation into consideration? Cause the Goonies budget in today's money value be equal to $55 mil. Box office be $364 mil. Still less than modern Hollywood films budgets, but really puts into perspective how far inflation has gone.

Just like raising the minimum wage for McDonalds burger flippers to $20 killed the market, because no more $2 burgers on the value menu, and frankly, MickyD burgers really aren't worth more than $2. Its because money is just paper. Tangible assets are wealth. Goverments and Companies dont build houses because it results in actual wealth redistribution. I agree! Indie films especially indie animation has become very popular lately as it draws so much attention and interest from people who wanted to watch a really good and entertaining film or show! That is the key: independent filmmaking and animation are the key to success!

This was brought entirely upon themselves. They had more than enough chances to make content people actually wanted to see but instead they listened to corpos and people who don’t watch/support any of these movies and shows. I have no empathy for them at all.

Second note - in the early 1980s a big box store called Fedmart went bankrupt. Target came to California for the first time and was renting the old Fedmart store buildings. Target offered jobs to the Fedmart employees - who refused them because Target, a retail store, wasn't paying the high union wages they were used to, the employees tried to get everyone to boycott Target. Target is still around.

@@toongrowner1nah, it started earlier than that, I'd argue with Transformers 1. See, those movies discovered an interesting exploit: the Chinese audience. As much as the average American is bored to tears with that series, China loved it. As a result, many, many films started being constructed to appeal to the Chinese market. Here's the problem, though: Chinese storytelling in cinema takes a backseat to visual spectacle. Additionally, there's lots of stuff that isn't allowed in Chinese theaters. Therefore, lots of movies started focusing on big CG fights, and all of the "woke" was reduced to pandering because while that would definitely increase the engagement (I mean internet arguments in this case) in the states, China definitely has problems with race and non-hetero relationships. Black Panther had to cover Chadwick's face in the movie poster, Finn was tucked away in the corner, The Little Mermaid was shaded blue, and anything hinting at the gay had to be cut. However, both the pandemic, the collapsing economy, and the new film standards have made it really hard to get a movie screened there (let alone do well), and Hollywood basically now has to figure out how to make stuff without the Chinese failsafe.

@@KetsubanSolo but the whole concept of "The audience is just sexist, racist" habit started with ghostbuster 2016 and Anita Sarkessian in the gamming industry. Both made "being a victim" into a form of business, no matter how much harm they did to their claimed cause, not to mention how many people they devided over the years. Sadly there are morons who still claim Anita did something good for the industry.

In my 20s, I gave away all of my VHS and DVDs. Last year in may, I started collecting again. I've spent 500 dollars over the last year. Yard sales, thrift stores, Facebook and Church sales. I now how 3 dvd players, 3 VCRs. 300 dvds, and 400 VHS, and a crap load of show seasons, like 50 of them. I don't need Hollywood to make good new movies for me. I need Hollywood to start making movies good enough so that petile don't figure out that paying to watch old shows on streaming is dumb. I just don't want the price to go up! Literally pennies on the dollar. 25 cents to 1 dollar for most movies on physical media, plus all the deals. Boxes of 25 movies for a few bucks, every now and then.

Also you can thank these rich celebs not even putting a dime or sacraficing like 1 mil of their paycheck for the peopel that really make the movies. 20 mil just wasn’t enough wasn’t it.. They did this. Which is why celebs culture should be ended.. no more 20 mil paycheque… it’s ridiculous. It should just be another job. When everyone has the same ish pay… everyone has to do their part equally to make something good

Everyone has been conditioned to expect terrible woke movies and shows. Just making one good movie, even if it is truly excellent, is not enough to undo the damage Hollywood has done to itself, it's going to take a fairly long string of good movies and frankly they're incapable of doing that. New movies and shows will have to come from outside of California if the industry is to survive at all.

I don’t care about them and root for their failure. They insulted and alienated their fans relentlessly. They have destroyed fan bases and ignored legitimate criticism. They subverted expectations to the point they turned fans apathetic. They’re everywhere and have an opinion on everything. They make boring movies and blame fans when they fail. It’s at the point they made it personal.
