This was made at just the right time. What a gift to have these stories from not only the actors, but the stuntmen, directors, camera men etc.

It's amazing what cameramen could do with the old heavy cameras and equipment, truly skilled artists. It's so easy now, with light cameras and computers, compared to then .

The trouble with war movies is unless you know what you're doing, war is glorified by the way film presents things.

Very well done. I've seen the sound version of ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (and read the book). It remains a powerful film. A remake is worth a look.

My dad has taped this series VHS. Then later made me and my sister a copy to watch on DVD. Great series!

Yes he was. He was good director, too, but he got a bit over his head at times when he tried to make certain films into grandiose extravaganzas. He was rightly critizised(sp?) for doing this.

The man with the hat is Rudolf Valentino, and the film is "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" ~ I don't know who the actress is, but the film is on RU-vid, and you can probably find out through imdb.

The actress who danced with Valentino is Beatrice Dominguez. The movie was made in 1921. She died the same year at the age of 24 from peritonitis after her appendix ruptured. Valentino died in 1926 at the age of 31 when peritonitis set in from a perforated ulcer.
