There are no good writers in Hollywood anymore due to the intense gatekeeping that goes on. It's impossible to get your script seen by anyone in Hollywood. Even actors will roll their eyes at you because they don't want to be bothered by you.
Studios will only green light projects they know will make a profit. Movies associated with past successes fit that bill. Only until remakes and prequels become less popular will studios change their strategy.

The irony is that ANY character can be developed into an awesome powerhouse. But if the writing doesn't EARN it, it never works. That's why garbage like "Rebel Moon" (SW copycat), "Willow" (reboot), "The Witcher" (S3), "Moonfall", "Snow White" (reboot), and "Hunger Games Songbird" (garbage) all failed miserably. I think films overall are so bad now, people dont even look relateable...their faces are so airbrushed , why are you in a jungle in a prom dress that doesnt get dirty, your make up is perfect, you do not sweat, you have no pores, your hair is perfectly styled...it makes no sense at all. Streaming took viewing away from from theaters and television, but that's just distribution. The masses will always want new stories and entertainment to consume.

Kind of feels like a Catch-22 in a way. People say things like "Stop making remakes! Give us something original!", but when something original _does_ come along, they barely support it because it's not "familiar enough", or (at the very least) not advertised as well. With that being said, there is this shift from mainstream appeal, to something a little more different. I would love to see indie films, animation, and horror give audiences something worth seeing on the big screen. And they don't need to have a hundred million dollar budget to do it. Look at _Godzilla Minus One_ : $10 Million dollar budget, and it was a great film. Even indie animation is on the rise (though online), and is showing that you don't need a big studio to make great works of art. We'll see what the future holds.

I think they are forgetting a huge chunk: independent content creators from all over the globe. How much time do you spend on TikTok, Instagram and RU-vid? That's where the eyeballs are going.
The Hollywood industry has been tightly gatekept for so long. It's impossible to break into this industry, especially as a writer. You need to know someone who is even willing to read your script. The process of getting a script picked up, produced, created, and then shown is incredibly complicated and restrictive. The real problem with Hollywood is that they have no novel or unique ideas. They are completely unwilling to listen to any new ideas or invite novel writers in their world. They've become extremely snobbish and elitist as they carefully guard their vaults of cash. I say this as someone who tried to enter their world as a scriptwriter. It's impossible to enter this world unless you know someone. Most actors despise writers because they can't standing having to read their screenplays. They will literally roll their eyes at you if you dare enter their presence and say that "you've written a screenplay." There's an enormous lack of appreciation for writers in general. It's like producers and actors think scripts come out of thin air. When will these morons realize that they actually need good writers in order to make decent films?
The economics of California just don't make sense when you can find any geography you need for your project in Vancouver or Toronto and to a lesser extent Calgary and Montreal... OR Atlanta or London... This is why Hollywood isn't "HOLLYWOOD" anymore... Better economics, cheaper labor and studio costs, cleaner, safer, camera-ready cities... Only the check-book men are in Hollywood anymore for historical and ethno-religious reasons.. And besides most films are now by indie producers who aren't really from or based in L.A. anymore.. Way more regional draw from Louisiana, Texas, Florida amongst others...

You don't need studios or on-location filming anymore. And in a few years, there won't even be a need for live actors or actresses. Not trying to be negative - just real. Even a semi-skilled person with a laptop and pre-loaded software can make movies and compose music.

Fun fact: Barbie was filmed mainly in the UK (at Warner Bros’ Leavesden studios near London) because it was much cheaper to produce the film there and there were generous tax breaks and incentives to do so. There’s only a few scenes in the film that take place in L.A. to give the illusion that it took place “in California.”
Also if you notice, Barbie had a lot of UK actors in secondary roles and casting was done primarily in the UK, including the dancers and background actors. Also the production crews were mainly UK based.

The current reality is, I am not paying for television with ads. Not this year, not next year, not ever! If Hollywood has something they want me to watch they better put it on Free TV and pay for it with advertising as I am not paying for it. The stuff coming out of Hollywood has been horrible for the past 10 years. There are still decent actors, but the writing is horrible. Back in the day we had Boomers and the Greatest Generation creating stellar work (e.g., costume, writing, acting, production, etc.). They’re filming in other cities, I live in a west TX town and found out Leonardo DiCaprio is filming a movie downtown in abandoned buildings . They’re stepping away from Hollywood to different cities where it’s probably cheaper.
That’s what happens when you make economic exiles of all the creative types with fresh ideas who used to flock to your city for opportunity but can no longer bear the weight and whip of the unreasonably high rent prices.
