It should be noted that the woke agenda did not hit Hollywood around 2016 without affecting smaller works first before that. By the time Ghostbusters was released, it was already seen in books, tabletop games, indie games/films, graphic novels, superhero comics and television shows. Our problem is the absolute infestation of identity politics into so many things, not only films and TV. It kicked off with Atheism+, which split communities between the normal people versus those who believed feminism was a requirement of being an atheist/sceptic in good standing. Then GamerGate, where feminism again became a requirement - same deal also with video game outlets and publishers attacking their customers for showing insufficient fealty to the party line. ComicsGate also. We learnt a lot from Atheism+, to recognise the same plan, and to push back. These people are deranged secular cultists who embrace the idea the 'personal is political', which is why they seek to bring their politics into everything they can co-opt. There is no reasoning with them.

After this year I expect Hollywood is going to slam the breaks. Now they still have a bunch of turds in the pipeline. 2025 maybe a wash, but 2026 I expect they are going to try to not say a peep about politics. And expect a lot (not all sadly) actors to magically be very quiet.

Hollywood is on the way out. It's being phased out by independent content creators like here. It's a new media, like film was, but it's not as expensive as film production. Anyone can do it. And distribution is free, even monetized. Small cottage industries are growing and new 1 to 2 hour productions will start. They'll be shared over social media and grow followings. Look at the Lady Ballers for an example. We're seeing a fundamental shift in the way in which people are seeking, and creating, their own entertainment without having to wait for some big buck studio to make it. It'll be out there. Some of it already is. Welcome to the breakout of independent content. No license, or unions, required.

I missed a time where politics were included in shows, yet they didn't represent IRL politics nor weaken story telling in some way. To this day, I enjoy Code Geass and FE simply for its story telling and they don't even have IRL politics telling you that you're bad for voting a certain way.

There is a lot of politics there to but if you don't want to watch non political documentaries or music reactions you can at least decide for yourself what kind of politics you prefer. Also apart from the big studios in Hollywood there are a lot of small independent companies in horror for instance making cheap movies.

Ghostbusters 2016 was when the industry "learned" that they could sling insults and labels, to intimidate people-criticizing-their-product into silence, to turn a 'complete bomb' into a 'break-even'. Unfortunately that 'tactic' burns good-will. Repeated use of the 'tactic' turns the once-beloved companies into 'oppressive enemies' that must be taken down.
