Back checking out Bob Seger!! What’s one of his earlier rockers we gotta hit?! Also ABBEY ROAD has been HIT over on Patreon, another amazing month, cheers all, have a great rest of your Monday!! 🙌🏻🔥
@@invisibledooley technically the gas pedal is the kick drum and my turn signal is the high hat, crash cymbal is the rear view mirror, but I get what you’re saying 😂
Lost my license for speeding in "79, ripping down the highway in my '68 Firebird, listening to "Hollywood Nights". Cop said he clocked me at 144 mph. Good times.
@0:55 watching Andy awkwardly try and drop ILLUMINATI sybolism into the video is pathetic IF you continue to do this i will unsub from your channel in a heartbeat (seeing as your entire country is owned by the ILLUMINATI (goverment, all media oulets, TV, radio, films, sports, music, industry, from your dollar bill through to buildings) it's no surprise that you have just started doing this in your videos.
@@johnblacksmith9505 first of all, how fucking dare you disrespect the music of Bob Seger this way. Secondly, stop riding the coattails of everyone else's comments with your delusional conspiracy theory paranoia. Make your own godamn post about it if you must. Lastly, if that's the kind of stupid bullshit you're gonna spew around here, we would all encourage and welcome you choosing to unsubscribe.
I love Bob Segar, but there are some other great story telling song writers...Here's a few. Paul Simon ~ "Late In The Evening" Harry Chapin ~ "Taxi" Dan Fogelberg ~ "Same Ole Lang Syne"
For some reason they just don't catch the meaning of songs right off the bat. They are more into the music. Me, I here the story. They even say this in this video. I remember hearing this song thinking poor guy, just got his heart BROKE!!
"He knew right then he was too far from home." Sends chills up my spine. "Then came the morning he woke up alone" It does not get better than Bob Seger!
Fantastic lyrics. Also She had been born with a face that would let her get her way… These three lines set up the ending perfectly. He spent all night staring down at the lights of LA, wondering f if he could ever go home. Heartbreaking really.
As a Midwestern boy who fell in love with a Cali girl, this gives me the exact feeling I get when I think of her. Its beyond my favorite Seger song by far
Nah. I don’t hear it. And they are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Rush = unusual vocals and more-is-more musical arrangements Seger = stunning vocals and spare arrangements I guess what’s more important is that both worked their butts off for a long time, and both opened for KISS. 🤣
@Ms. Chuck I mentioned the tone paired with those open chords had a resemblance to The Spirit or Radio from Rush, I didn’t compare them in the spectrum you’re referring too lol
Man.... You guys are starting to get why we feel we were SOOOO lucky to grow up to this music. And yes, definitely proud of you guys for the callback to Thorogood!
I was not into Bob Seger till I heard 'Katmandu'. Such a fun song and he really shows his vocal range. I haven't noticed anyone else recommend that song, so I will. High energy. It rocks. And it's fun when he sings 'Ka ka ka ka Katmandu!'
People heard Katmandu and said "Wow, this guy can rock." Then, they backed up to Turn the Page and said "Wow, this guy can write." The rest is history......

This guy's lyrics resonates to people's souls, Bob never got the credit he deserved but if you know Seger's music it's timeless it means more to me now because it's about reflection and introspection. Old time rocknroll is so true for me.
Love how you break down the technical aspects of the songs, no one else does it so thoroughly! Wish you could have seen him perform in the 70's. He killed it every single show. His concerts were the kind where everyone was up rocking, singing and dancing the whole time. You didn't need a chair!
Saw him in El Paso in 1976 absolutely without doubt best concert I've been to! I can still see his sax player Alto Reed on top of the speakers wailing away!!!
Great song! You should listen to: Come to Papa, Beautiful Loser, Main Street, Get out of Denver, Ramblin Gamblin Man, Heavy Music. Thanks guys keep rockin
"Traveling Man"/"Beautiful Loser" from Live Bullet is an absolute must. It's technically two songs, but for decades they have almost always been played as a single song both on the radio and in concert, and that's how it should be reacted to as well. That should definitely be your next one.
When you match Bob Seger up with The Silver Bullet Band, no one else compares. You need to do the whole “Live Bullet” album, guys. Seriously. You won’t be disappointed. And what a treat it will be for the rest of us!
Bruce Springsteen called Seger and wanted to know how to write a hit song. Obviously Bob gave The Boss some great tips. You can hear Seger in Bruce's music.

"The chorus just came into my head; I was driving around in the Hollywood Hills, and I started singing 'Hollywood nights/Hollywood hills/Above all the lights/Hollywood nights.' I went back to my rented house, and there was a Time Magazine with Cheryl Tiegs on the cover...I said 'Let's write a song about a guy from the Midwest who runs into someone like this and gets caught up in the whole bizarro thing.'" ~Bob Seger~ I would love Main Street next please.
@@davebramble2444 No problem, I saw Bob in concert at the Louisville Summer Jam in Kentucky back in 1980 and it was one of the best concerts I had ever been to, Bob has been one of my favorite artists for almost all of my life!!! Stay safe and take care, peace and love.
@@christinegilbert1078 Back in the 70's San Antonio was all about Rock and Roll and I remember Detroit being a Rock mecca. He wore the exact clothes you see in the videos, at the concert I went to.
His voice is a separate instrument! Well put! There really is such a growth in the two of you, I'm very proud of you both! It thrills me to see you enjoy these songs for the first time and how much you appreciate the musicality!
SpaceDogBones Those are the two main subjects when writing a classic Rock " n Roll song. I could make my fortune as I've had my share of both( especially the latter) !
Sung by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. But, no one can sing Seger’s version. Seger is always A+. Put on his greatest hits album and turn out the lights, close your eyes and imagine.
There at least one line in every song, isn't there? 'Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then "With autumn closing in "You pretend it doesn't bother you but you just want to explode "when I'm feeling lonely and beat, I drift back in time "I feel the traces they've left on my soul "All of my hopes fading away "Aint afraid to look a girl in the eye "And pretty soon my heart was singing "And you realize you just can't have it all "The ashes smouldering the warmth's soon gone "I held firmly to what I felt was right *sigh*
okay boys - I am drinking and putting our Christmas tree up and we decided to listen to Bob Seger Live Bullet. You guys really do need to listen to Travelin Man / Beautiful Loser from Live Bullet. Such awesome music. Hubs and I saw Bob live last year and we are so freaking grateful for the opportunity.
I don't know if you want it next, but definitely put it on the list: "Traveling Man/Beautiful Loser" from the Live Bullet album. An impeccable live track.
It REALLY is. I think I like Bobs version at least as well if not better than Tina Turners original. And she does an excellent job with his “Fire Down Below”
I like the idea of back to back react 1)The original by Ike and Tina Turner 2) Bob's excellent cover Both so good how can you do one without the other?
First of all there isn't a bad Seger song. He's just amazing. Keep in mind that for years he was a regional artist in the Michigan area. He had a little success in '69 with Ramblin Gamblin Man but didn't break big nationally until Night Moves in '76. I know that you wanted something earlier than Night Moves but you've already done Turn the Page which was from '73. If you do anything prior to Night Moves, check to see if it's on his "Live Bullet" album. If so, do the version from Live Bullet. That is one of the greatest live albums ever. Everything on there tops the studio version. My recommendation would be the one that many others have suggested - Roll Me Away. It's a very powerful song, great lyrics and amazing vocals. I'd also suggest that you do the official video for it so that you can see Seger deliver the song. Seger's got a ton of hits, but if you want a deep cut then try "The Fire Inside". It's a lesser known song that was included on his first Greatest Hits album. Fantastic lyrics and tremendous vocals. The official video for this one is very good too. If you just want to listen for fun, try "Making Thunderbirds". It's less than 3 minutes long but it rocks. Get Out of Denver (from Live Bullet) is always fun. Just the fact that he can sing that many words in 3 and a half minutes is incredible.
"Main Street" would be a good choice for your next Bob Seger song. It's a different kind of sound than what you have heard so far, though in terms of feel I would liken it to "Night Moves", in that it is very nostalgic. It has some really interesting guitar work, and I will leave you with this one additional tease -- it is a song that nearly every exotic dancer featured in her act during the late '70s. Listen to it to find out why!
Bob Seger always throws me down memory lane. Love it! Try "Someday You'll Accompany Me." Seger is a storyteller. On a side note, Alex the flannel shirt suits you.
Rambling Gambling Man should be next - definitely! It's interesting that you talk about him developing over two years since Night Moves. RGM was his first hit single, and it was 10 full years before Hollywood Nights. Bob was a touring veteran by the time Hollywood Nights came out - a real road warrior. Interesting fact: Glen Frey of the Eagles was a good friend of Bob's and he appeared on RGM in '68. Personal favorites that I'd love to see you guys check out: Main Street, Traveling Man/Beautiful Loser (live version from Live Bullet - same album as Turn the Page). Against the Wind is another awesome song. Seger is a great American storyteller - and very underrated by some. Glad you guys are enjoying!
Seger tells amazing stories through his music; his songs created sooo many memories for my generation... spilled over from our parents' 70s music, into the 80s, and became ours. Seger over Springsteen any day.
I think I have watched your Night Moves reaction a bunch of times. One of you guys best. Roll me Away is my favorite Seger song. John Cougar Melencamp has similar bangers in a similar style.
Please note that the snare drum figure mimics the sound of expansion joints when driving on a highway. Who thinks of this stuff? That’s why they play and we listen.
I've been a big fan of Bob's work since I was kid in the late 70's, a friend took me to finally see him live for my 52 birthday 8 yrs ago, it was everything I could have wished for and more! He is a consummate performer!
Excellent choice! Next should be "Fire Lake", which features backing vocals by three members of The Eagles. EDIT: I went to California in 2007 for a family reunion. Those beaches and those roads are exactly as Bob Seger describes in this song. Highway 1, the Pacific Coast Highway, literally follows the curves of the coastline.
How can a song miss with opening lyrics like this: Who's goin' to ride that chrome 3-wheeler? Who's goin' to make that first mistake Who wants to wear those gypsy leathers All the way to Fire Lake.
First concert I went to at age 17- Bob Seger. Last concert I saw was two years ago- Bob Seger. I believe he was 72. I'm from Detroit so I've been lucky enough to listen to him for over 40 years. So many songs for you to get to...
Great memory for me, I just bought a 78 Camaro and me and a buddy of mine decided to just go to California, no hotel reservations, no plan no nothing. This song was perfectly timed as we drove around Santa Monica. We noticed a lot of posters about "Cars" concert and asked some surfer what that was all about and he thought they were a band, little did we know that across the street at the civic center a new band, you guessed it... the Cars was in concert and we heard my best friend's girl playing on the radio on drive back to Phoenix. Thanks for the trip back in time.
First Rock concert for me. 1972. His voice was imprinted in my brain that night. Like a saxophone through fine whiskey. Kudos for the choice, and the retro-reference by experience! Peace.
I totally agree that this sounds like a progression from Night Moves. He was a midwestern boy "out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy", and thought it would be a good idea to go west. Then he was blinded by the beauty of the California girls and their diamonds and frills. He lost sight of everything and just wanted to get home.
Another great story song by Seger. She had been born with a face that would let her get away. What a fantastic line, about how a beautiful woman can entice you and lose yourself in her.Just a great song.
Fun fact: when he wrote this he was renting a place in Hollywood Hills and there was a magazine in the coffee table with Cheryl Tiegs on he cover. She was quintessential Cali girl so the ‘girl’ in the song is inspired by her! (So yes Andy, it was a blonde that inspired him... and he mentions her blue eyes, which can go with other hair colors but usually blondes)
One of his earliest “hits” was Rambiln’ Gamblin’ Man, performed as the Bob Seger System (1968 or 69 I think?). It’s a great song and if you listen closely you will hear a young 17 year old Glenn Frey signing background (he hung out at the recording studio and was mentored by Bob)
In the late 70's when my friends and I partied in bars it seemed like every other song played on the bar jukebox was a Bob Seger tune. This one is my favorite from that era.
Can never go wrong with Bob Seger. His voice is so good. Gotta listen to Mainstreet for a different take on that voice. Great job, as usual, A&A!!! Thanks!
You've been playing 'height of success' Seger. I really highly recommend the earlier stuff like 'Get Out of Denver' and 'Katmandu' which are scorching rockers and you really should check out the live recordings of those songs. But I am glad you're showing him appreciation - one of the best live performers I've ever seen.
