@@trevorthornley8835 Beau is Afraid (2023) no hyperbole, it was an indisputable masterpiece, it nearly killed me via heart attack in the theaters but I absolutely loved it, it really struck a core with me, no wokeness in sight, simply a compelling and relatable story for those who've been abused by our parents.
As I watched this saying to myself:”Did all of this come out in one year?” Back in the 90s this amount of cringeworthy rubbish would have been spread over a decade
@@HumanHamCube Not only was it impossible to see them all but there are tons of movies from the 1990s I somehow never even heard of. Golden gems I find 30 years later or completely forgot. I just rewatched 1996 Bullet Proof with Damon Wayans and Adam Sandler for the 1st time in 25 years. Somehow this wasn't in my Adam Sandler rotation.
In terms of Hollywood memes, "Black girl magic!" will win 2023. Also, Lizzo will be wrapped in aluminum foil and join the Fantastic Four movie as "The Silver Surf 'n Turfer'.

I was unable to determine if this was a commentary on the current state of “popular” (or rather, UNpopular) entertainment or a commentary on the current state of Western Civilization as a whole.
if it needed to cover western civilization as a whole, we'd also cover the inequality, elites doubled their worth in the last few years while most average people have fallen behind, we would cover the number of lying democrats as we found out just how much they lied to smear trump and how much they are lying to cover up their involvement and motivations to continue the conflict in Ukraine, we could also cover the crazy women ruining gyms recording their butts while calling men in these public gyms creeps, and then there is the disgusting degeneracy of only fans and twitch thots, the crypto influencer scumbags scamming their own fans endlessly, and the endless stories of women chasing bad boys only to get pumped and dumped. and most men are checking out of this trash.
Perfect! But on Netflix there are some American Cartoons that are mimicking anime in order to try to get some fans of this style. With some woke ideology,. Pathetic
@@hepatus1 yeah that's disturbing but it is so bad that it is irrelevant. tons of irrelevant bad anime comes out in japan too, netflix "anime" just falls under that category.
I’m starting to think that their term “toxic masculinity“ is redundant in their eyes. I believe they’d like the term masculinity to be seen as toxic on its own.
While all the strong, powerful, sociopaths... I mean, women they push possesses every "toxic" and "masculine" trait they claim to hate. What gets me is that a man who knows more about something trying to help a woman is him talking down to her. But these women dismiss everything before even listening because they know better and proceed to lecture or insult any man they come across. The movie or show has to stop for some insane rant. That female Loki, who was the worst part of that show, is the most recent instance of "what is she on about" and there were cheers when we finally saw her die.
"The phrase emphasises the worst aspects of stereotypically masculine attributes. Toxic masculinity is represented by qualities such as violence, dominance, emotional illiteracy, sexual entitlement, and hostility to femininity." Nobody cares if you're masculine or not. Just don't be a dick.
Elon musk is absolutely right when he said, "Disney has a major content problem. Almost their entire upcoming slate is unwatchable. They are the world's biggest example of go woke go broke".
That is why I don't go to the theater to watch thier movies, and I basicly hijacked disney+. Not paying for thier shit or anything brought forth by kuntleen kenedy
Trivia snippet. Director X used to be called Director Twitter until Elon Musk got him to change his name. And I bet you thought that Director X was a pretentious A-hole that wanted to be associated with Malcolm X
2023 was the worst year EVER for pop culture thanks to Hollywood politics, culture wars, boomer-minded capitalism, increasing reliance on AI, and our enjoyment at seeing idiotic rich celebrities falling on their faces. This year seemed to confirm that pop culture has become a shadow of what it used to be before the pandemic hit. Pop culture might as well be running on nostalgia fumes at this point.
so what you're basically saying is: "I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary." okay grandpa Abe Simpson, we getcha.
Did anyone else notice this Top (or should I say Bottom) 50 list was dominated by Disney, to inclde Marvel and Lucasfilm? Talk about reverse Midas syndrome -- everything Disney touches these days turns to s**t.

As hard as it to believe, both of those were last year. If this list becomes a reoccurring thing, I got a feeling RoP S2 will end up there one way or another,
@@cicada8981 It's unreal how a lot of these extremely unpopular shows get a confirmed second season, and even if in some cases they get cancelled, they still tried their hardest to make it happend.
@@inendlesspain4724 I could be wrong on this, but I think many of those shows had multiple seasons set up in their contracts. I think Velma and RoP are two of those. Could be more, though. As for the ones that don't have it in the contracts and get it anyway, I honestly have no clue. Maybe you can blame companies like BlackRock for encouraging it, but who knows how many people get high off their product and trick themselves into thinking it's good.
I think the Mandalorian season 3 was what finally broke me. Once I saw what they were doing with giving Mando the Boba Fett treatment, I rage quit it. After season 2 of Andor, I’m not going back and I’m surprised I’ve lasted this long.
The hollywood leftoids know they're not talented enough to write endearing dwarf characters, so they just say it's problematic. This was fantastic, mate! well done
the condition might be horrible, but since most of those failures we just saw came from said writers and actors i don´t think them striking is one of "the worst of 2023" but rather "the best of 2023"
I think I would have enjoyed this video more if I wasn't rolling around on the floor laughing my ass off! Another brilliant commentary, Echo Chamberlain. I thank you.
I refused to watch The Little Mermaid and could have easily spent the rest of my days never having been exposed to that final scene. Then I watched this and I am scarred for life.
Every pitch meeting for every TV show and movie for the last five years - “I’ve got a great idea for a show, it’s going to star a diverse woman, she’ll be gay,… And that’s about it “
@@princewellidk That's the plan. You don't realize that all of this "woke" (Marxist) propaganda is nothing more than reverse psychology to push people towards Conservativism as a means to "save society" and Make America Great Again. Another McCarthy era is coming once DJT is reinstalled in the White House. Social Justice Activists in these corporations are going to be labeled as Communist subverters, and certain groups of people (such as homosexuals) are going to be labeled as "subhuman" and unworthy of living. Basically, the US is going to become Germany 2.0 in the near future. Hegelian Dialectic: Problem, Reaction, Solution Problem: Liberals are ruining our history, creating division, promoting immorality and are destroying the economy. Reaction: We need a leader, and laws, to protect us from what the Liberals are doing to destroy this country and the West as they try to turn it into a Communist society. Solution: Remove Liberals from positions of power, authority and influence with the support of the population majority. Drain the swamp, reset things back to the way they were by any measures necessary. Unfortunately for MAGA People, this "victory" will be very short lived as it will give Russia the opportunity to once again save the World from Fascist regime. The US will be destroyed as a superpower and be reduced to a mostly smoldering radioactive wasteland. What remains will be divided by Russia, Japan and China, the latter two owning $1.1 Trillion and $859 Billion of the US debt respectively. Calling yourself “Director X“ is so cringe. I feel like it’s on par with some white guy calling himself “Director Billy the Kid“ or some such nonsense.
Congratulations for being able to narrow it down to 50 examples. The bad side of Hollywood use to be hidden, while on screen was always a mixture of great and bad movies. But there was not a consistent failure this large, and for the same ideological reason driving the disasters Hollywood had.
These gentle words of sense and humour stroked my tired media nerves as a metaphorical cat calmed by a soothing hand of reason until I purr. (By purr, I mean drink ❤🍸)
It's important to remember that the opposite of love is not hate but apathy. Apathy is why these films and shows are not making money. The audience just can't care enough to get angry anymore.
Execs just seem to sit around a table and say “hey, remember those 250 movies that pointlessly gender swapped, had to have token LGBTQ characters in, had to have token black characters in and/or pushed a characters “identity” before their, well character?” Other execs: “yes” Exec: “you know how they all flopped miserably?” Other execs: “yes” Exec: “well 251st time’s the charm muthafukas.”

For anyone that wants a list of movies that were good this year: Godzilla, Sisu, The Holdovers, Dream Scenario, Talk to Me, Oppenheimer, Gran Turismo, Super Mario Bros, Suzume (which got a US release in '23), The Whale, and Tetris are just a few that I watched this year that I did enjoy. The Holdovers is the one I'd highly recommend if you can only watch one. It's like you gotta search for good movies when you used to be able to find them very easily, but good stuff is still being made. Mostly by A24.
I only watched one film in 2023, it was Beau Is Afraid (2023) it was a masterpiece but I'm not watching anything else current, nothing will amount to the greatness of that movie.
Godzilla minus one is fantastic. Sooooo refreshing to watch a movie with no woke agenda, with an actual story and characters to care about. And all done for 15mill$.
What's not surprising is that Hollywood produced 50 pieces of schlock - but that they were all so expensive, pretentious and preachy. That's why these projects have no value, not even as easy entertainment or camp. It's like watching a Chuck Norris movie but with 200 million dollars worth of colorful CGI and a diverse sidekick who wins all the battles for him and schools him on his patriarchal views. There has got to be a better way
Your use of the many "les" words at #32 had me rolling lol... That made this video worth sitting through RU-vids 5 back to back ads, totalling over a minute, making RU-vid only slightly less intrusive than cable television.
So for the sake of diversity, we have black Vikings, black, Roman soldiers I’m curious why in Mulan then were there no black villagers or black soldiers everyone was Asian strange
It will still take years until we will see a shift in Hollywood. Even if they now decided to make better movies, it would take at least two years until we would see that in the cinema
Watching people on RU-vid make fun of films is far more enjoyable than actually watching 95% of films this year. Pitch Meetings at least got a lot of material.
Meanwhile Godzilla Minus One is killing it at the box office. That movie had a budget of 15 million and is probably one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I'm pretty sure bad movies lately is a western, American, Hollywood problem.
Godzilla reportably made 50 million at the box office which is less than shin godzilla. It made money due to a surprisingly low budget (which shin had even lower somehow).
This excellent summary is Exhibit A, that we have now, actually, finally reached peek woke in cinema & the small screen. Sure, they might continue to churn out more of this dross, but the curve has definitely cratered.
I watched Willow (and I remember it was in 2022) and I found it ok. What bothered me the most was Elora struggling to use magic before suddenly managing to make a tree grow instead of just a plant, which would be more realistic.

Sound of Freedom, Guy Ritchie's The Covenant & The Equalizer 3. Everything else I saw that was even tolerable was still over indulgent tripe that squandered any potentially resonant enthrallment by just being tedious and too pleased with its superfluously histrionic doldrums to bother editing down to something pointedly sharp.
One that animatedly hate is what they did to Davros He was evil and wanted nothing but to have his people the kaleds to be the master race of existence Universe once but evolved to existence
Even if there was a lot of bad stuff this year, there were still some great films that came out. Oppenheimer, Barbie, Across the Spiderverse, Guardians Of The Galaxy vol 3, and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
I am highly confused, which is it? Do we want to escape into a world that is mind numbing or do we simply not want to be lectured? Because I feel that there is no winning anymore within the entertainment industry. Yes I do agree that the writing has definitely been sub par - to put it lightly, so how can Hollywood turn this ship around? Great stories always seem to ask the individual a deep moralistic question artistically crafted within the story. It is evident that is missing. However when I hear people say "stop lecturing me, I just want to be entertained" I feel that then leads to the mind numbing theme park movies Scorsese was talking about, yes people care for these characters because either they are fans of their source material, but also because they were well crafted/written characters. Nowadays the characters identity is their defining characteristics which is such a shame. I say bring back the skilled writers because these activists don't know how to write compelling stories and characters without addressing their own agendas as the be all end all. Therefore sacrificing both the story and the character.
Incredibly simple. Stop giving jobs to people for quota reasons. Script writing is the toughest artistic job to do right, and the easiest to pretend to do. So it is currently occupied by people who's only quality is their social disability. Healing won't be immediate, because you will need smart and talented people to believe that they would be able to contend on the job market without having 50 shades of genetic parentage or sexual attraction to fat vegan lizards. But it will happen in a generation.
a lot of people are watching movies nowadays because they are looking for something they consider "woke" so that they can be angry about it and you can't win with people like that. no matter what you do or how hard you try, these people will always find something that is "woke" and complain about it because that is what they want.
I think you hit on something that makes a big difference - the writers are often writing lectures on issues they are concerned about in real life. Not issues it makes sense for characters to be worried about in their world. And they tell, and rarely show. You don't feel like you're watching an exploration of an issue that exists in that world but also happens to relate to the real world. You feel like the writers hijacked the script to shout at you about their childhood trauma. There's a little room for writing an issue into a movie or show that is really only an issue in the real world. But only a little.
@@rachelclark6393 I Like what you said about how these writers hijack the characters to address their own "real world issues". Which I feel then hampers both the story and the character. However I fear that this will only lead them to double down on addressing these issues as that's all they care about. These writers are incapable of creating their own original story/content, as that will require talent to engage and interest an audience. Therefore they will continue to hijack already well-known IP's with a baked in audience to lecture towards. They clearly don't like the audience and take great pleasure in ruining their once beloved IP - which is very despicable. I am however not against talented writers crafting an interesting story which will address "real world issues", in their own original story. Nevertheless we know these big studios won't take such huge risks on original content because all they care about is turning a profit and ESG scores. If 2023 hasn't proven how abysmal the box office performances have been, I guess nothing will change. I am just a simple man asking for good storytelling, how difficult can it be? It seems with the current climate - the answer is very difficult.
