Another fun video with your wonderfully heathen humor. The race was a lot closer than it should have been. The 'vette was loud and it ran a fair amount slower than it should have been running with that engine, gearing and transmission in PSMCDR. Oddly enough the side exhausts for those gen 2 corvettes made a lot of noise, but were pretty bad for power based on a few chassis dyno runs I have seen. The Camaro was well prepared for the class, and it ran what you could expect for a properly tuned 350 within the rules.

For a second, I thought it'd be a 1967 Corvette L88 drag racing that '78 Camaro. The '67 L88 Corvette is the coolest C2 Corvette ever in my opinion. And I'm certainly not alone. That monster made 560 HP, compared to its severe 430 HP rating. And they're so expensive even C&Z's girlfriend's father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate can't buy that thing. (I hope you like that Spaceballs reference, everyone)
@livewire2759
@livewire2759 Год назад
I was thinking '67 L88 as well, but I don't think they came with a warranty... or at least not 12 months. Either way, the only true "holy grail" Corvette from the classic era would be the 1970 LS7. Supposedly there was ONE built (tested by motor trend if I remember right) and it was later modified, then destroyed. The Spaceballs reference was great though... and no, sir, I didn't see you playing with your dolls again.

What else would you do? The rules allow it to have the HEI and Q-Jet tweeked, 1.5 compression ratio increase (from 8.2 to almost 9.7), .070 overbore, and true dual with 2.5 inch mandrel bent exhaust thru stock exhaust manifolds. Intake manifold has to be factory. Cam has to be stock sounding. No cylinder head work (I think valves can be worked). So I’m thinking about 260HP? A shift kit and looser converter, and I’m betting a lot of ET gains are in the suspension. See how it squats and just moves off the line? One of these years when I take time off from the rat race, and get off my lazy azz, I’ll finish working on my 79 Z-28 and show up. It will be a test of reading and comprehension skills. Got to follow the rules for the class. Right now, I’m just hanging out in peanut gallery watching the fat lady....

The '65 396 is considered the "holy grail"? That's ridiculous. Even though the 396 wasn't even available until March of '65, they built nearly 3 times more of them than fuelie's in '65. Being that '65 was the first year for disc brakes and the last year for the fuelie, I'd say that's closer to being a "holy grail" than the 396 cars. For anyone who's interested, the true "holy grail" Corvette would have to be the 1970 LS7. Most sources say that none were ever built, but supposedly only one was built for testing by magazines like Motor Trend. Second to that would have to be the '69 ZL1, which according to assembly plant statistics, only two were built, though it's possible that a third might exist. Then there are the 5 Grand Sport Corvettes, built in '63... the 20 '67 L88s... the 80 '68 L88s... the 116 '69 L88s... all more rare than the 771 '65 L84 fuelies, and FAR more rare than the 2,157 '65 396s. So, can I get the "top comment" award for the best rant?

You should actually read the Rules they say no Headers.. Exhaust Cast-iron exhaust manifolds are mandatory and must be correct for the year, model, and horsepower claimed. Internal modifications to the exhaust manifolds are NOT allowed. Under no circumstances will headers be allowed, including those cars that came with headers delivered in the trunk. The exhaust system may be upgraded to a maximum of 2.5-inch head and tail pipes. Pipes must be routed as they were originally for the year, make, model, and engine combination. Mufflers must be stock looking in design, that is, oval in shape. No glasspacks or straight pipes allowed unless installed as original equipment. Maximum muffler inlet and outlet size is 2.5 inches. X & H pipes allowed.

I have to wonder why Chevy had such boring valve covers on their performance engines. Geez, even the slo-po 390 Fords had chromies.

Well I was a bit shocked with how fast that de smogged Z28 ran . I imagine if the Corvette was given the same treatment it would be in the 12s. All said given that the Z was was driven by a 16 yr. Old is impressive. Way to go dad!
