I am still in shock. A fan of my channel reached out and offered me a rare SNES game that I did not own. Super StarFox Weekend was an event to promote the new StarFox game back in 1993 from April 30th to May 2nd. A competition was held in a few thousand places around the world. The leftover carts from this event were then sold in Nintendo Power for $45. Only a few thousand carts were made, making this a very rare item for any collection. In this video I showcase what the cart looks like, open it up, and showcase some video of the game. Do you like the Starfox series?Comment below and tell me what you think. Thank you to all who have taken time out of their day to watch, comment, like and subscribe to this video.

Congratulations on getting the cart! I worked at a Hills Department Store and actually ran the Starfox competition at my store. I remember there being a huge line of people waiting to play. I had to play the evil employee that had to turn away kids wanting to play without being signed up for the competition.

Bloopman Just out of curiosity, do you live near Virginia? I ask because there was a Hills near me in Roanoke, VA. I loved shopping there!

Bloopman Thanks for the story man. My most vivid Snes memory was seeing the Super Metroid demo running at a department store. I was blown away by the graphics. I didn't own a Snes until high school.

Very cool, John! I actually won the contest in a mall here in Denmark. The prize was a denim jacket with the red Nintendo logo on the back (VERY 90's lol) and also a soundtrack to Super Mario Bros. The Movie! They gave me a choice of cassette tape or cd, and I picked cd cause my uncle had a cd-player. I was at that mall for several hours, constantly going back to check if someone had beat my hi-score, but no one ever did. Good times!

I wish I was just a little older in the 90's so I could have done stuff like that lol. Cool story man! Do you still have the jacket and cd?
@Neffets
@Neffets 7 лет назад
Chip Damage I still have the cd. The jacket was lost at some point in the mid/late 90s. I always had a strange feeling someone stole it, but I probably forgot and left it somewhere after a soccer match... FeelsBadMan

Did you at least get a copy of the cartridge? A cd and a lame jacket are shitty prizes.

A denim jacket with the Nintendo logo is not lame for a 12 year old in the early 90s! But no, I didn't get the game...

John, I worked at the local Walmart and every lunch break I would walk to electronics to play this game & then a couple of weeks later the dept manager asked me that there was going to be a competition at the store and would I be the host/judge since she didn't want to. I said yes. As a judge, I got to wear a yellow Super Starfox Weekend apron and passed out goodies such as shirts, hats, pins. It was my introduction to game that I love dearly. To this day, I still have my yellow Starfox apron and pin. Congrats on your Grail, it's my grail list too but know it will never come to fruition.

John I played this in the U.K. At my local game store, the prize was a trip to New York and as I was the first to play, I got my name written on the board for first place... for a few minutes at least haha. I remember feeling really hot and sweaty though as there were people all gathered round watching and waiting to play, I felt sooo pressured lol one of the staff members was even commentating! Great childhood memories!! Thank you for sharing this!

That's great! So happy you got the game you've been wanting! Great channel, I really respect what you're doing collecting these games and keeping all the stickers, packaging and instruction books and everything, but mostly thanks for kinda cataloguing them for history/prosperity. Imagine one day you set up a small gaming museum (who knows just like you mentioned in a video you done with Metal Jesus who's also great btw!) as your collection is just awesome. It's just so great to have a hobby like this and thanks for sharing it with us. I also collect retro stuff and it's so nostalgic and fun! I mostly collect 80's and 90's toys (Mighty Max, Polly Pocket, Puppy in my Pocket, etc), retro computer games and consoles (especially Sega Mega Drive and PC), board games and Lego (although my collection is nowhere near as good/big as yours). Anywho have just subscribed to your channel and liked shared. Keep up the great work and happy collecting! Regards from Lisa from Scotland, UK.

FYI: Others will know more about this stuff, but the "blobs" are "potted integrated circuits", or "potted ICs". I'd be curious if these were regular silicon covered for shielding or a meager defense against IP theft, or if they're just real potted ICs (think of the circuits inside a silicon chip, without the silicon chip. My guess is they're just covered silicon wafers. Sometimes simple ICs are done completely in potted form to save on production cost (especially in this limited run). I never seen any other cartridge opened and never had one of these systems, so I don't know if silicon was the norm (as I'd guess it would be).

I think part of the problem with Star Fox as a series is that fans simultaneously want HD iterations or do-overs of the SNES or N64 classics but are very weary of the series because of the issues on the Gamecube's entries, especially Star Fox Adventures.

Commodorefan64 - for me it was always the other way around, never liked the look but liked the gameplay of StarFox. In the early/mid 90s I didn't like naked polygons and I always prefered beautiful sprite games. That changed for me when textures for polygons came around and DAYTONA USA (Arcade) just blew me away, I was never that stunned by how good a video game looks.
