HOLY GRAIL TIME-LAPSE with NIKON Z6 II

Thanks, tbh I haven’t however, I did once leave it with a too heavy nd filter on and it did ramp to iso 20k so I feel it would go to the required iso for starts, in some of my city P mode holy grails you can see some stars but obviously the metering was to not blow out the city lights too much

Hi Fred, thanks, yes that’s exactly what I’m referring to, the term minimum is a bit counter intuitive as I see it as the max length of time the shutter will be open.

Yes interval priority On, and I also limit the shutter speed by max I want in auto iso settings for double safety

Thanks Shadzi, for something that came out completely off an automatic setting I’m quite happy with that. Best to just check if P mode works in the correct order by slowly pointing your camera from a very dark area to something as bright as a bulb and seeing the setting change, then if you can add the exposure smoothing option it should work 👍🏻

Thanks, you mean in P or Av mode you can’t adjust exposure compensation while time internal timelapse is going ? Can you please elaborate so I understand your problem better 👍🏻

@@LondonViewpoints In M mode (or Av with f), with a 3 second interval, the screen goes off and the controls are all locked out in interval mode. You can’t change the shutter speed and the camera is unresponsive until you stop the clip. Effectively no holy grail ability outside of automatic. Z6 under the same settings is responsive and will do it.

@@serenelapse5279 interesting and I’ve not tried it, but then if I ever want to shoot a manual holy grail I always use a dedicated external intervalometer and connect qdslr dashboard so I make changes over WiFi rather than bumping the camera each time I want to adjust setting that later you have to stabilize, so I would recommend you try your next manual timelapse this way👍🏻

@@LondonViewpoints It is worth trying as this is a function of the cameras and I find the Z6 is a stronger camera in that department. Thanks for the tip with wifi, but it looks like qdslr is no longer on iOS. Know of another? That would be great for my slider clips to have a remote settings change and I’m keen to look into it. With an external intervalometer however, that would impact the weather sealing and warranty potentially, which could be more dangerous than stabilising in post. Australia can be a harsh environment. Seems like in some situations it would be a benefit to use the internal functions. Which until a Z6II firmware update addresses it, unfortunately makes me pick up my Z6 instead for timelapse as I can rely on it to be more of an all-rounder. Thanks again for the tips, if you know of an app for iOS I will give it a try!

@@serenelapse5279 The iOS version of the app is called ControlMyCamera instead of qDSLRdashboard

All depends what your interval will be, you go into auto iso menu and set the max shutter speed to be a second or more below your planned interval number and it from there all should work 👍🏻if in any doubt , check out my 3 part tutorial in the description
