Honestly I’m starting to feel like my design skills are part of my holy order. I may not be a priest or a deacon. However, I’ve been through 10 years of practicing. I’ve found a mission. I pray about it all the time. I also feel like I been called to do this.

I am a pretty new Catholic. I have struggled to understand the role of authority, the hierarchy of the priesthood, the significance of the Pope & things like this. I was very distrustful at first actually. What I did know is that the Holy Eucharist is for real; the transubstantiation is for real. I discerned flaws, frankly, in my priests & other religious around me... I wanted perfection in the human beings who ascend that Holy Altar each time. The Lord softened my heart. We are all flawed. All of us "sin & fall short of the glory...". I began to recognize the sacrificial act of service & dedication in & of itself it takes not just to be a priest but also to be a nun. I started just to pray for their vocations as I pray for my own & my loved ones. The miracle of the Catholic Church is, because of that initial blessing passed on from Jesus Christ to St. Peter, the Lord shows up for us in the blessing & special prayers in the rite of the Eucharist. Fortunately for us, our priests & bishops don't have to be perfect for the transubstantiation to occur. We are all just helping each other get to heaven.

It sounds as if you have really opened yourself up to the movement of the Spirit within you! That is not always an easy thing to do and sometimes, it can be a scary process. Your search for the Truth has given you a good perspective on your faith and the Church in general. We all have to remember that deacons, priests and bishops are all just human beings. Their vocation does not make them superhuman or give them some special power that would keep them from committing sins. They have the same temptations that we all do. We pray that you continue to discern and grow in your faith and thank you for your comment!

@@reunitedagain5005 Let me give you some Ideas Protestants(non Catholic denominations) = 1. "Sola Scriptura"(Scripture Alone) or "Bible Alone". Protestants believe that the Bible is the ONLY Source of Authority, they rejected the authority of the Church Magisterium(Teaching office/Priest, Bishop, Popes) and the Tradition(like sacraments), What they don't know is that the Bible itself is Part of the Tradition. The Bible was compiled and canonized by the Catholic Church, 300 years after the death of the last Apostle John. There is nowhere in the bible that says, there is going to be a Bible. We have the Bible because of the Church and Tradition... which they reject now... Catholics and Orthodox = 1. Scripture 2. Tradition 3. Church Magisterium(Teaching Authority of priests and bishops) Catholics are the first and original Christians... However Eastern Church aka "Orthodox" separated FROM the Catholic Church in 1054 A.D. Orthodox are in "Schism" from the Catholic Church. They don't accept the supreme Authority of the Pope. However, In the Bible, and in the Early Christianity/Church fathers... We can prove the supreme authority of the Pope. they also have some other issues like "filioque" regarding the Holy Trinity.

@CatholicCentralVideos
@CatholicCentralVideos 4 года назад
There are indeed female religious orders. Although people in general refer to them all as nuns, the term specifically applies to cloistered orders, who remain in their convents and are devoted to prayer, and sister refers to orders that go into the world to be nurses, teachers, missionaries, etc. In terms of the liturgy, nuns and sisters are still lay people, so they may do whatever any other lay person can do (do the non-Gospel daily readings at Mass, lead prayers and rosaries, teach the Faith, run ministries, etc.). They are not ordained ministers, so they cannot say Mass, read the Gospel or preach at Mass (the first is reserved to priests; the second and third are for priests and deacons). Here's a more detailed explanation (that includes priests and lay brothers) ... www.catholiceducation.org/en/culture/catholic-contributions/the-meaning-of-the-terms-nun-sister-monk-priest-and-brother.html

Hi Rob, good question. A "Brother" is not another term for a deacon. A brother is part of a group of people we call "religious". Much like nuns, they take vows and do a lot of the service work that priests and deacons do, but they are not ordained.

Hi poppy, the easy answer would be "no" but everyone is different. The call to ordained life is realized after much discernment and prayer. What happened to Subdeacons, Acolytes, Exorcists, Lectors, and Porters they have a special role to the Church?
@CatholicCentralVideos
@CatholicCentralVideos 4 года назад
Since Vatican II, the minor orders, for the most part, still exist as lay ministries. This was done with the hope of empowering that laity and encouraging full and conscious participation in the Mass. Those who are in formation to be priests or deacons still experience the Rite of Reader (lector) and the Rite of Acolyte before their ordinations. The role of Porter is now largely unnecessary and the role of Exorcist is now done by priests.

The Sacrament of Holy Orders pertains only to those who are ordained, namely deacons, priests, and bishops. We do hold a special place in our hearts for women religious, though. They perform many vital services for the Church and are often out on the front lines, helping the marginalized and speaking up for those who have no voice.

@CatholicCentralVideos
@CatholicCentralVideos 3 года назад
Hi Male Slyveon, thank you for your comment. Perhaps if you looked at the map a trifle longer, you would have seen that the blue areas are the land masses and the white are the oceans. We know that this goes against the usual depiction of maps, but our producers felt that this combination worked in the graphic. As for being a send-up of a Catholic channel? The Onion is a satire with a kernel of truth, but we are truth with a side order of humor. Our hosts, Kai and Libby are both devout Catholics. In addition, our episodes go through a process of theological review at every step: from outline to script to shoot to postproduction, the content is checked and rechecked by a staff that includes Catholic priests and deacons and also includes laity (we have had an MDiv and a Master’s Degree in Theology on our staff). While we take our subject matter very seriously, we have fun presenting it in a way that entertains and educates. If we are fools, then we are “Fools for Christ”.
