Who else starts by going right to the end to see the weight, before watching the rest? Over 250g? I'll keep to my Phantom. Cheers for always putting that section in the same location in the video, it makes things a lot easier :)
Just received my HS720 today. I'm looking forward to flying it after finishing the FAA registration. My 1st drone to "putz around with" was a SYMA X5SW. No frills, but had fair camera. What an upgrade the HS720 is! Thank you for your great information and review
I was in the market for a drone, never owned or flew one. Wanting to learn as much as possible in order to figure out which one to buy, I came across your videos. After watching numerous videos on numerous brands (I also considered the JJRC and SJRC), I ended up buying this one. Amazon had it listed for $299. An on line coupon for $20 off brought it down to $279. I applied for , and was approved for the Amazon/Visa credit card, which knocked off another $100. Basically, I paid $170 for this drone. It arrived the other day and I've been out 4 times learning the drone and how to fly. I really appreciate your videos, they not only describe the drone and it's features, it helped with a short learning curve about drones and how to fly. I've used all the features (follow me, point of interest, return home, land, etc) and they all work great. Twice I have flown it until the battery gets low and it automatically returns home. I have landed it twice on my own using the joysticks. My only complaint (so far)......I have an iPhone 8 with an Otter Box, the holder on the handheld does not open far enough to get the phone with otter box into it. I have to remove my phone from the otter box in order for it to fit. I have had my kids (who are more tech savy than me) try and fit the phone (with case) into the holder, no luck. You would think that R&D would have though of this. It was registered today withe FAA as "recreational, modeler" use. Ordered another battery and san disk card. Thanks for your help.
It hovers even in strong winds, although gust will make it waver but it will fight to keep It's position. The camera is excellent. I used it to check the roof and gutters over my house this spring, saves having to get up on the roof.
I just bought it last night. I took advantage of an Amazon flash deal (20% off), a clickable Amazon Coupon ($15) and another Amazon Coupon from Holy Stone ($45). I paid $210 taxes included and free shipping. A great deal for this nice drone. I’m looking forward to flying my new toy. Thanks for the review Captain
I got this as a first drone. It is fun to fly. Learning how to get the best possible footage out of it in spite of its beginner's shortcomings will be fun!
This is a great drone, well made and affordable. The camera has a bit of fisheye effect but for the money it is very good. There are adjustments you can use and the auto features work well. The only problem is the buttons for the shutter and the high/low are hard to reach if your phone is mounted as it sits close to the controller. I leave my phone off the controller in the shade because the essential the controls are on the controller anyway. Holy Stone's support is very responsive as well.
Can’t believe the HS drone landed right on the pad and this is over 4 years old. Just purchased the 720g and haven’t flew it yet but I do have confidence in my purchase after seeing this. Thx for a great review
I’m falling into this Drone world hard. I know I’ll be owning multiple drones, owing multiple motorcycles tells me this about myself. It’s like a bag of golf clubs. Each has it’s own use and strengths. First drone coming snail mail from China now.
I looked in the quick start guide and the actual manual and couldn’t find the instructions to calibrate the Gyro... I was so confused as to why this drone didn’t have a Gyro Calibration, it was 3 minutes and 4 seconds into the video my mind was put at ease. Subscribed.
just bought this 2 days ago. I tried it first day and it was good indoor and outdoor. I only flew it few mins each time. The next day I tried again with full batteries. First flight was good and then when I tried second time it started flying away. I tried to use the return home button and joy stick down but it didn't do anything. It kept on flying away. Not sure where it went and landed. I sent message to customer support and they were very helpful and are going to send another one for free and replace it. I do need to send all the remaining items back to them(controller, battery, and instruction). Lets see how the next one will be.
Hello Captain! I took my hs720 out to fly, after not using it for about a month or 2. Upon opening the app, I found that it has been updated, now a simple one-step to "connect device", and now has a "find my drone" button! It might be my imagination, but I flew it up to 75 feet high in a 25 mph wind, and it seemed to hover even more stable than ever.
Thanks for the tour! Been a follower for a few weeks now. My very first drone was an HS700. It just flew away as it was landing, nowhere to be found. This looks a lot sharper and more fun to fly! But I can't get over that price point when you can get a Parrot Bebop 2 for less than that. At $150-$180, the HS720 would be a decent buy.
just received mine today. Just getting into the drone scene and am pleased with how user friendly this unit is for a beginner. Was up and flying in 5 minutes after opening the box. Very stable...
Pretty expensive. The Zino Pro is about the same price, little more and you are in the Xioami Fimi 8se range which is a great drone. The app on this drone looks the same as that of the JJPRO X5 and MJX Bugs 5. Good review as always. Very informative and straight to the point.
I fly an Holy Stone 120D. It's a level under this one. It's a blast. Similar controller. Mine doesn't have a display but it is rechargeable. Mine came with a FREE BATTERY card also. They sent it to the wrong address! It must've been the last one in the country because it took a solid month to receive the replacement from China. To keep me happy Holy Stone sent me a FREE HS165 drone! About a week went by, I contacted HS to inquire about the battery and all they said in the email was "to bare with us. We're working on it." Another week goes by, still no battery. But they sent me ANOTHER FREE HS165!! Now that's customer appreciation! Now my daughter and I fly together. Finally got my battery a few days ago.
I watched like 5 videos about this drone before but yours was the only where i knew that you can fly a drone, film a nice Video and cut a nice video. Zhanks bro
@@chrisdwyer1477 I was also surprised at how jerky the video was plus the lens is very wide angle so there is a lot of distortion and the colours looked way off! Dissapointing compared to Mavic Mini!!
@@mpcaz can I ask, is there a different model between 2k or 4k? From my understanding is that video caught through the app would be 2k but on a SD card it would be 4k? Do I understand this correctly?
A great review! So, I have had several low-end planes, helos and quadcopters, all of which help you to learn a bit. I now wanted to move to outdoor photographic involvement, but not jump all the way to a DJI Mavic. I got this one a couple of weeks back, along with a spare battery, and am looking forward to some initial flights. Weather is crappy right now in Pennsylvania, but if you can fly in frigid Canadian conditions, I am going to get out there. I liked your two camera views, the drone and your head mounted camera. It makes me realize that my video quality will be a little lacking from the drone 2K camera.
Another great review Capt, thank you. My first drone was the HS700 and it’s still my favourite so far. Their customer service is outstanding. I really can’t wait until HS finally produces drones with 2/4K video and 3 axis gimbal. On an aside, your merch section is advertising a mug as a T-shirt. You might want to look at that b4 someone has a moan 🙄😃 Thanks again.
CAPTAIN DRONE The first picture on your merch page is def a mug, listed as type 1 T shirt? I’ve screen shot it but dunno if I can send it to you via YT? Pat
I’m on my 4th drone now, I lost my holy stone 440 and it got blew into the tree tops yesterday🥲 Thanks for such a good review man, this will be my next purchase
So, you sold me... This is my first drone. Your videos are informative and entertaining. An as a additional purchase, I bought a Captain Drone Hoodie... Keep up the great vids. Cheers
@@rogerthat.9105 Lived in Los Angeles my first 30 years. Once I visited the North East, I decided to move. Got bored of warm/dry weather year round, its nice to have variety and seasons (am in Brooklyn), though at times after a few months of winter, you're desperate for the change.
@@vegasrjr Just lots of dangerous things (centipedes, spiders/tarantulas, snakes, conenose bugs, even the sonora desert frog is poisonous). It's like Australia in America except landlocked! (kidding of course. Love the variety of wildlife, and a friend said life is great there when they moved)
The feature I discovered it has unlike many others is that it will circle a point of interest away from you. Most others will circle you or the transmitter location, but this one can circle a point where it is presently located. I thought it may have been a translation error in the written description but it is not. It has the capability of circling anywhere. Just be cautious of obstacles as it does not have obstacle avoidance, but you can stop it anytime with a tap on the phone screen. This drone flies rock solid and is quiet. Everyone from beginner to advanced flyers can have a use for this drone. It looks good flies well and has many features.
Got mines of Amazon after seeing this video for fathers day and it's amazing very fast video not that great got glitch but I send mines all the way across the water and it zooms across in no time
Wow!!!! What a drone for less than $300 !!! Alot bang for your buck!! Lots of cool features and my favorite is how stable it is in the air i love it! Due to your review I really want this as part of my 3 drone lineup (atleast) Questions: 1. Have you flown this drone in windy days?? Hows the flight? 2. How would you rank this Drone with other competitors?? 3. Max elevation??
@@romoibahadur42o better, honestly. Very stable. This is my first one. The pics are quite good at 2k haven't done a 4k since i only have the memory card in phone till the new one comes, better than my s8 for pictures for sure. I cant really explain my excitement and how this is very well. They aint lying in there ads,
@@romoibahadur42o Bought a second now have a backup. Been making a few bucks off it and need a backup, its still sweet for price range. Gorgeous 4k pictures.
Thank you sooooooo much for this video, definitely will purchase. you made this video as real as it gets. thank you for your honesty, and putting this video up.
The controller looks identical to the one of the JJRC X11. And so does the battery. The difference is: 7.4 volts at 2800 mah for the Holy Stone. 7.6 volts at 3400 mah for the JJRC. If the dimensions match, there is a great opportunity here to upgrade the battery for the Holy Stone.
I own Bugs 4w (same as JJRC X11) and this to me looks like a re-skinned bugs 4w. Everything looks identical with a slightly different main body. No way this is worth $330.
Steve yes the yuneec goggles work with the hs 720. But tell the ppl make sure they have the apple lighting to digital av adaptor. Do not repeat do not buy the Amazon one. Plus 3d googles works to. The app. Has a splt screen. This is a great day.
It's a decent drone. A good one to learn on. Only thing is that the newer iPhone models are too big to fit onto the controller - meaning you need a co-pilot to hold your phone while you fly.
Good review thanks. Am working on my US 107 and wanted a small multipurpose drone that I could use under recreational or commercial (depending on what I am doing...). Thanks for this.
Great Video. I just purchased this Drone and am very Happy with it. I wish I would have watched your video first as I would have been more comfortable with my purchase before hand. Very informative video
Steve, I am an avid watcher of your channel, thoroughly enjoy all the drone videos very informational. My question is, you have videos of drones with 4K video that don't have fisheye. Would love to see a series thanks.
I couldn't agree more, Check his other youtube video, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MKBlr2v4eQU.html The video is much smoother on F11 4K PRO with camera 2-axis gimbal and 30fps and drone cost less
Very nice drone only thing is I wish when doing videos if everyone could get a wind speed and direction gauge .very nice drone thank you captain you helped me decide to get hubsan zino pro for my first drone. Very happy with it just have to build up trust with it and get over that it's $400 flying with no leash. But very happy with it and all your videos are very helpful
I asked my cousin about this drone , and he had a friend that had it and this is what he said: Since most drones are GPS assisted flying, that one is a bit weaker when it comes to how they connect with GPS. My buddy crashed one on the initial flight was able to get it replaced and then that one was a flyway on the back the third flight, he said he wish you never bought it because he can’t get his money back out of it. Thoughts?
The only people that would ever have issues with such a drone are pilots new to drones. There is no such thing as a FLY AWAY (that is a term from way back in 2016 when GPS was new on a drone). What occurs today is a new pilot does a poor GPS calibration (so the drone things Home is elsewhere) or the newbie pilot flies beyond the battery power and the drone just lands itself as it runs out of power. Or the newbie pilot crashes it, then feels ashamed for doing some silly, hides the evidence and calls it a FLY AWAY. It's like in the old days when everyone who had a problem with their PC called it a VIRUS.
My first drone, couple things trying to work out with HolyStone I have a small wire sticking out about 1/4" from a small hole if you turn it over would be right rear near sticker, It took almost 20 hours to charge the 2 batteries( I bought a spare). Had some issues with phone connecting to drone on 1st flight hit the take-off button rose up & came at me hit the Lock button immediately to shut it down.. 2nd flight when I hit the RTH button it landed but then the motors starting reving up & down I had to pull battery. Speaking of battery i noticed on your video & mine came with it there is a rubber or foam seal that slides on battery if I have that on I cannot get the battery to lock into place...like I said saw on your flight video yours had this piece but to get mine to lock I had to remove it?? I shut everything down made sure everything was charged at 100% 3rd flight went much better. Still concerned with wire & battery. Great videos help me decide which to buy as a beginner..
Fights the wind like a giant, stays put. Love that drone, the only thing is the lack of obstacle avoidance sensors. So watch out around a treed area, I had to climb pretty high to get mine back.
This drone is big but I’m wondering how well it flies compared to a spark or mini 2 as I currently have a spark, mini 2 and a XK detectx380 drone but I like the size of this drone
Looking at a drone for camping and hiking your one video I like the jjrcx12 the market is so full of GPS drones which would be best for a great beginner with good quality video and photos. Your the only drone you tuber i watch u give good info at the Barney level. So ur opinions counts to me
My second Holy Stone 720 after the first one fly away. This one flew away also. Was lucky i found it after it went down.Camera freezes also. They need to get the bugs out of it.
I did the review and the battery literally came within two days. They also sent me a LiPo bag. Which was a nice touch. Happy with the way customer service handled themselves.
One question for the Captain: How does the HS720 use the landing pad to find where it is supposed to land? That just seems like black voodoo magic to me. 🤪
So I took delivery of a HS720 this week, the bad news I didn't have the free battery offer in the pack, but the good news, mine shoots 4k video albeit at 16fps. And I paid £220 GBP (270 USD)
the price is certainly very attractive. but just a bit more, one can have a 249g Mavic mini with better features. I think DJI just killed off every competitors in this price range.
For me, I got this for $280 and the mini is $400. So I wouldn't say they are in the same price range. Also I dont plan on becoming a huge drone guy or ever getting a +1k drone, I just want one for casual use here and there and this one works very well for the price.
@@PhillipGriffin3211 sent it back aftershock few week’s and got a full refund from Amazon. Thing went nuts and flew into my garage and broke into pieces. Ended up buying a Mavic
Update 7-12-2020 *** Thanks to Selina Xu, my confidence has been restored in Holy Stone *** She contacted me on FB about my unhappiness that a drone that I had only flown maybe 10 times wouldn't response to the controller. She expedited a NEW drone from Amazon which included everything and also upgraded it to 4K for Free! Thanks for excellent customer support!
Typical high quality CD review, very through and in depth. Unfortunately it's in a class dominated by the Hubsan Zino and this drone is simply not up to that type of competition. The video quality although tolerable is far from "cinematic" for those most concerned with video quality. The lack of a gimbal the lower video resolution and the lens distortion all overshadow any flying qualities this may have that exceed those of the Zino. If you're looking for a good selfie drone, the DJI Spark is currently being found here there and everywhere in the 300s and once again, this drone simply can't compete. From what I can tell, HS has missed the mark with this drone. If it's meant to be a flyer, it's too expensive and if it's meant to be a photography/videography drone it need better camera and stabilization hardware. If one can get this at 40% off (in the mid 100 USDs) then I think it's a great buy, otherwise, not so much.
jmpdgs agree. Similar price range to Eachine ex4 and jjrc x12 means it simply will not sell unless they halve the price. Zino is more expensive and has minimal features, and toy like build. So on price in a slightly different category. This is probably a better featured drone but camera quality probably is it’s main weakness at the price
Captain Drone. As a beginner with drones which would you reccomend, holystone 720 or the mavik mini? I'm not looking at cost just quality and features.. thanks!
Hi, I bought this drone but I can’t get video or pictures while outside at the park. It works with wifi at home but not elsewhere. Am I missing something? Thank you
I purchased a Holy Stone HS550 drone, unfortunately I went to Holy Stone's website and unable to find accessories such as extra batteries and charging dock. However when I search for the HS550 the HS720 keeps popping up. How different in comparison are these two drones? They look identical, is there a way to review the HS550 model and perhaps find a link where I can purchase more accessories for my drone? Also what is the max storage size for an SD card does this drone take. I have another Holy Stone drone but it only allows for a 32GB SD card.
