Full build of my G444 "play" saw. I do not port aftermarket cylinders for customers.
Went back into this saw a few times. trying to find every last bit of power.

Well, I guessed 8.6hp in the other video so I was close. I built a farmertec 440. It is all stock. It is very healthy for what it is. I've told people and no one believes me. This dyno proves how good it is.

Let my ported 440 go last fall, gotta do what I gotta do to get the barn. The good thing is that I have a nice running 462. Nice work. Watching the video yesterday I thought it was a 660 clone and I thought it was a little short on power; knowing it's a 70cc saw makes a big difference in my opinion, it's an awesome runner. That was a wide squish band. Have a great day, enjoy the sunshine.

I would like to see an oil ratio dyno test on an autotune saw like the 550XP mk II. 50:1, 40:1 and 25 or 30. Another interesting one would be ceramic bearings. Love your videos and good to see you back.
@em4703
@em4703 Год назад
The differences in performance should be much. The reason to run a 30:1 over a 50:1 is the lifespan of the lower end bearings, which easily doubles or more, no matter what kind of 2 stroke oil is used. Rolling wear loves oil volume.

@joescissorhands141
@joescissorhands141 2 года назад
Couldn't have put it better myself, am kinda stunned seeing just how significant a gain he saw off the carb-mods, I mean I'm not ignorant (not experienced, either) on this stuff and seeing the #'s he got for raw power were both awesome and, frankly, kinda expected (FOR HIM, lol wouldn't expect anyone else to hit his #'s they seem genuinely league-of-their-own unless his dyno is broken :P ), but seeing him bump the power THAT much from 2 simple "carb-enhancements (neither move on the carb was "fixing an inherent problem", or altered jetting, just simple "blueprinting" type work smoothing the bolt-head &shaft, & the venturi, never would've guessed the dyno would show 1/5th the gain it did (heh I guess that means the dyno being accurate is actually not even that relevant, IE even if it read 1HP high - or LOW - it would still be showing good-enough RELATIVE changes IE "23% gain from muffler" or "from porting" (though, for him, it seems high-20%'s are a bare-minimum gain when porting and nothing else, just altered port-timing, so impressive!!) I'm sure you know this already but if you've got one of "the primary models" from Holzff., then you can order carbs from Amazon for like $10, next-day shipped, at least for 660's!

I would like to see a larger carbs effect. Great build! I think you should reconsider building these saws for people. There are a lot of people that like chainsaws that don't really use them(like me) . Just stipulate no warranty, if it blow up it blows up. Hobbyist only saws, not for real work. Shoot I live in Florida . Got a g372xp sitting on the shelf. Don't think there is a tree in the whole state I couldn't take down with my 46cc poulan.

Nice job Joe. Interesting choice of piston. I would be interested in seeing a dyno run using the Eagon filter without the stock cover and with a max flow cover, curious to see how much the tight fit affects it vs a max flow cover. I do like the idea of keeping the stock cover, esp. On a 044, 046 saw vs the max flow cover.
@dynojoemods2764
@dynojoemods2764 2 года назад
Both the max flow and Egan filter can flow way more air(cfm) than most any saw can handle. I knew the carb was holding me back when I pulled the filter and power didn't change.
@230e4
@230e4 2 года назад
@@dynojoemods2764 Glad to see ya back on RU-vid. I have heard others mention concern over how tight the eagon fits in some covers. You make a valid point about how well they both flow and that even with a tight fit it is better than stock. I was just curious how much if any does the stock cover restrict the eagon filter.

From my experience with logging since a child the newer saws now are more about high rpms and enertia and the older saws were more for torque and I always liked them better than these new ones I have a 327 Husqvarna and built it and it makes nine and a half horsepower I custom made a dome top Piston and shaved the head and ported the intake and exhaust and drimmeled the inside of the piston to have more space for air and fuel to fit under it

OH and for your viewers (and anyone NOT you, who may shy-away from Maxi's exclusively for financial reasons IE you already go through a half dozen filters you can't just swap all your units to Maxi's and continue at that rate!), there's "a trick" or technique, really, to prevent issues of FLOW/throughput (HD2's, as you've shown dyno joe, are only 2% more power than HD2's, one can surmise - I believe - that Maxis' superiority is a result of their longevity), IF you do subtle mods to your airbox-cover to allow more air-induction, and you "filter" (cheesecloth, fabric whatever anything THIN) these holes, like Frog Skinz only D.I.Y., you can achieve an airbox setup that's got more income-potential than the Maxi boxes have, and - at its center - has that 98%-as-good HD2 filter, no pre-filter necessary, and - provided you ensure you've got the high porosity foam-insert inside that filter, for catching oily carb-spitback, your HD2 will NOT rapidly fade, it can retain near-new potential WAYYYYY longer (like a Maxi, because Maxi's can take more dirt to the outside and, on the inside, don't give a hoot about a non-reed intake's inherent spitback...but you can simply address those 2 items in an HD2-based setup and voila you should be keeping your HD2 "98% of Maxi" power only no outta pocket $ and WAYYYYYY less-frequent filter cleanings, am still amazed how long my cleaning intervals became once I started over-sizing these "lightly filtered air-inlet" slots/squares I carve into the sides of my air-boxes!) DEFINITELY not a pro trick, or something you even wanna show-off to your sawyer buddies LOL, but hey sometimes efficiency & value are important IE residential tree care :P

Question, in your opinion, is it neccessary to machine the squish band to match the piston if you already have the desired combustion volume? Or is it all subjective?
@dynojoemods2764
@dynojoemods2764 2 года назад
Squish band should be parallel to the piston. If not it can create stagnant pockets of unburnt fuel charge, and disrupt flow.

Maybe should have just put a small indent on the piston where it came into contact with spark plug instead of just cutting the whole piston all the way around .. when I shaved the heads on my old 20 horsepower L head Briggs & Stratton I just put a small divot on the Pistons so it wouldn't have interference between the spark plug and the piston (bout .040")

Do you think the Holzff carb your unit had may have been sub-standard (by THEIR quality-levels, I mean)? I ask because I have a good proper walbro, and a cheapie Holzff, carbs on my 660's (ported, 1 is 56mm) and feel dumb saying this but don't think I can tell the difference (IE if someone swapped the carbs between my 54mm setup and the "hotter" 56mm setup, adn just tuned them to "like kind" idle/H/L settings, I doubt I'd notice!) Furthermore, I'd been (mis?)interpreting your works to mean/"prove" that the carbs ARE good for more-than-OEM, by a lot - your 590 frankensteins, wherein (on OPE forum) you say you don't even NEED to do the 620 carb/coil swaps for the 440'd-590 monster-machine (thanks, btw, thought I was done messing w/ saws & now KNOW I can't get that outta my head til I have it, or am convinced it's cheaper to just buy a 7310 & port that...but am doubting that's the case...I wonder if YOU would do "as-is"/all-work-final-sale for a used 590's crankcase, just tapping the cylinder-holes so I can put my own 440 top ends onto my 590? Currently I am "going to do it" and my best thought is "the JB Weld trick" for seating the jug but if I'm being honest I'm still very worried Re how well I can pull that off...I do use/love JB for intake floors, even if they didn't need reconstruction in the 1st place (cuz jb is far, far easier on intake-skirt's bottom!) but doing bolt-holes that you're gonna ratchet your 4 cylinder-bolts into, just picture myself wrenching-out the holes I'd made :P ) Thanks as always and Re the Holzff carbs I'd LOVE knowing your thoughts Re my earlier Q, whether you think your unit here was "a kinda crappy Holzff carb", OR if you suspect MOST of the G440/G660's are gonna see gains from "regular Holzff" carbs IE they're ALL that bad (OR am I misinterpreting the carb work- would you still be seeing 5%+ gains doing those same mods to the OEM Walbro carb?) Thanks again, keep pushing that envelope & letting us watch it is AWESOME!!!
@dynojoemods2764
@dynojoemods2764 2 года назад
It would be cheaper to buy and port a 7310, than for me to build another 440/echo hybrid. Stock carbs will feed more power, but most any saw will make even more power with a larger than stock carb to an extent. I would guess oem carb to gain the same as this aftermarket carb with the same simple mods.
