Thank you for the guide. Home Assistant Google Cast works fine (radio browser, local media, text to speech) exept my IPcamera. I can select the vieuw of the camera but streaming to my chromecast google tv does not work. Horizontal line at the bottom of the screen, no image from camera. Any idea?
the chromecast integration is kind of half-completed. It has major limitations to stream custom cards and some content. So i wanted to use it to stream my lovelace views into my tv, but ran into all the limitations as if your lovelace view contains ANY custom card then it won't render. I ended up going to another raspberry pi4 connected to the TV in order to stream via a web browser which is roughtly the same price as a chromecast. Lots of potential but unfortunately the chromecast integration is very limited because of that. good video, it works well for controlling a chromecast device, but if you want to stream, you will quickly run into the limitations i mentioned above. i hope HA guys put some more effort on this one. Yeah it sucks that custom cards wont render at all, there is a other way to view your Lovelace ui on your cast device, think i give it a try, its called C.A.T.T.
Thank you for the guide. I have an issue though, when I cast to my Nest Hub I first need to cast something from RU-vid or similar to wake it up and after that cast from Home Assistant. Any idea why this happens?
Thanks, Great video. I still can´t figure out how to loop a video on a chromecast. With an automation, after a certain time I see the video stopped and a persistant notification saying "INVALID LOGIN ATTEMPT FROM LOCALHOST"
Is there a way to just open the RU-vid app if you have the Chromecast with Google TV? Google TV allows you to open up the RU-vid app and then scroll for your videos, rather than have to put a content ID.
The youtube app opens in both my tv chrome cast or google home mini but the video never plays, i tried different videos with no luck, any idea what might be the problem?
I have a weird problem, when i cast it it only opens the app on my nest hub, but nothing starts playing. and after i triggered the script im not able to use any trigger, to play audio or video on my google cast devices until i restart.
Can the home assistant detect which app is running on the chormecast? . For example, I would like to create an automation that when the chromecast is in the netflix app, the lights in the living room go out. Does it also work with chromcast with google tv?
I'm not sure if the exact app can be extracted, but the idle and playing states can be detected. I can suggest to test it by yourself and see what other attributes are also visible. Chromecast with Google TV should be fine.
i know it shows in home assistant what app you're using but didn't try to automate it, i do have a automation that stops my motion lights from getting triggered if the chromecast is playing a something
Thank you for the instructions, that is great, hey my Chromecast devices work fine, but sometime the nest speakers change id and I have to update the automations with new ids, any recipe to glue these Chromecast nest speaker id, this will be awesome.

@@KPeyanski here is what i have - just note that my HA is accessible externally via https: Service:Media player: Play media Targets: content id: :8443/local/.jpg Content type: image/jpeg anything with needs to be replaced by your own. the image i have is on www folder (inside homeassistant). also make sure to fill in your HA external and internal url under Configuration-->General
I tried to cast one of my mjpeg cameras to Chromecast gen3, but it didn't work, no matter what I tried. Then I changed the destination to my Android TV with built in Chromecast and it worked like a charm.
