Hello to all you people who are interested in my radial After four hrs on the phone with Mark McCoy in Australia I was able to load information into the Engine ECU using my laptop by following Marks exacting instructions Pretty stressful really. I always thought that Mark would have control of the laptop . Quickly discovered that the WiFi drops out as soon as the Ethernet cable is plugged into the Engine ECU So late in the afternoon it was time to give it a go and see if the big girl would start. It did and very quickly with a loud back fire and huge amounts of smoke and oil but then ran very poorly indeed with only about three or four cylinders firing I had time to check the oil pressure which was holding at 40 PSI at very low RPM so very happy with that part. This start up was recorded . So today I will be checking the ignition timing function (ie are the plugs firing in the correct place) Next week sometime Mark will be on the phone again and we will fiddle with the adjustments as required and have another try, which will also be recorded It may yet be a fuel problem (ie super rich possibly) Thanks for your enthusiasm for the project. .
Looks great Russell, it seems you have thought of everything but I will be interested to see if the positive crank case pressure oil return side of things works. I would have been tempted to run a vacuum scavenging kind of deal, I know they are expensive but I'm sure a man of your talents could knock something up with an old roots blower and an oil pump. Can't wait to see this thing run.
Hi Scotty I am lucky . The system works!! There's 3 inches of water column on the Manometer . This is 0 .1 of a lbs positive in the crank case and there is no build up of return oil in the window on the collector tank under the engine. This small positive pressure should not effect the wear on the lip of the crank oil seals. Surprising how so little differential pressure is required Regards Russell
