Many dogs are allergic to chicken and can not tolerate as much fat in their diet. This recipe is great for those dogs.
This recipe is complete and balanced based on NRC guidelines (better than AAFCO)!

I recently took my dog to the vet and was really talked down to because I said I finally switched my dogs from kibble to homemade food, added golden paste and CBD mobility treats. I truly didn’t know that vets would not think this way! I was truly naive and surprised.
@FarmersMarketFido
@FarmersMarketFido 6 месяцев назад
Yea, it’s still shocking to me. Even though I have software and make sure that diets are completely balanced other vets sometimes still question it. They don’t believe clients can stick to a recipe. But, I also think they just don’t get it. Some people actually believe that diet coke is “healthy” so 🤦🏼‍♀️

@@Tailionis not sure where you are going with this but, it is literally called fish and veg. Some vitamins are more difficult to get in whole food sources and also more easily absorbed in a powder form than others. They honestly aren’t many supplements in this diet. I don’t consider eggshell powder that I make myself from eggs to be a supplement. I think that’s 100% natural and also the membrane is in there which is good for joints.

Thank you for teaching us how to take good care of our dogs! Too many people feed kibble and I know how bad that is for our dogs! Shame on veterinarians that recommend kibble! Thank you so much for teaching us! You are my hero!

I am so grateful you have taken the time to educate families to feed their pups healthier! Thank you! As a golden retriever breeder, I wanted to address your comments about DCM. 1) I agree, it is NOT a "grain-free" issues. While it was first identified in dogs only eating grain-free, it was incorrectly identified as the cause, and it was perpetuated by a lot of breeders through the grapevine. But what I noticed in 2015 was my dogs were suffering issues related to pea protein, so I stopped feeding any food with pea products. I quickly realized that it's the pea protein used as a supplemental protein source for a lot dog foods, not just grain-free, but ALL GRAIN-FREE has it in HUGE AMOUNTS! If we know soy causes fertility issues in human women, I don't think it's a stretch to assume it has a similar impact of dogs reproductive system. Most families/dog owners don't care about fertility, and most would never know if their dog's fertiliy is effected because they spay/neuter. So these issues stay under the radar for the average dog owner. So I suggest its the TYPE/SOURCE of protein that not only causes infertility and DCM, and god knows how many other preventable ailments, 2) it was identified in goldens first, because the cardiologist at US DAVIS that published his findings, Josh Stern, is a golden retriever owner and lover and very active in our online social media community, so the majority of his clients are goldens, and goldens can also suffer a genetic condition of the heart called SAS. Because of that genetic issue, we golden breeders have echos done our dogs nefore considering breeding to prevent breeding a dog with SAS, so this breed has regular echos, as opposed to other breeds not at risk for SAS... It's just that simple. ALL DOGS, ALL BREEDS are susceptible to diet related, taurine deficient DCM.

This is great. Thank you so much! My Instant Pot is in daily use from me cooking veggies for my dogs. Doggie gut microbiomes are important! I frequent the produce section of my grocery, and keep an eye out for the bags of salad on close out sale, the ones with the packs of dressing and toppings… I toss the inserts, and pour the chopped salad into the instant pot. Those salads are usually heavy on the cruciferous. I set my pot for 0 mins, which gives it a nice steam. When I manage to get several bags on sale (99 cent manager special at Sprouts!), I transfer them into freezer bags and store in freezer. (They make good soup starters for me, too)

I also add Nori Kelp the one they use for sushi, I add Imported sea salt some C vitamins. I feed different meats in a week 2 -3 days fish. Some egg yolks, whole raw legs of chicken bone in. I don't over think it cause my Dad always fed homemade food he prepared every night fresh, and younger will eat twice a day. 1 Raw carrot a day fir my dogs.

I’ve been cooking liver lately for myself too and love it. It smells bad when it’s raw but after cooking it the smell goes away. I’ve also heard to soak it in milk for a couple of hours (which I’ve been doing) reduces the strong taste as well smothering it with caramelized onions.

Thanks ❤ Oh bty, we grew up on liver and onions. Use calf's liver beef liver is to tough and calf's liver is tender and has a better taste. Cook your liver that has been coated in flour that has been seasoned, brown your onions in the same skillet you cooked your liver. Make some yummy home make brown gravy add your liver and onions reheat and serve over rice.

After having Killian for four days took him to a vet, not knowing what he had internally on his body. Paid top price for him, feel like advice the puppy place I got him from, which cost more than three hundred dollars. I’m not sure that they will recognize the expense. The food was purchase from they, so they are little bit compromise at least to recognize Killian health condition. 😊 today he is doing much better. And cooked food to him myself non of the other stuff. Veterinarian gave Killian vitamins which I paid extra I do not feel like u in advance using 😮the ones from poppy store. @FarmersMarketFido
@FarmersMarketFido 3 года назад
we don't have to use both but, dogs need more fiber and pumpkin really doesn't have much sugar but, is a great source of fiber. And because fish is expensive it helps to make the food go farther. Cheaper calories. The cheapest option is definitely not my main goal with my recipes but, I do have to consider costs. I have three kids and not a ton of money, lol

So so so happy I found you❣ I have 1-17 yr old miniature Dachshund Tucker he's lost all of his body fat. 1 petite female GSD Freya 8 yrs old, 2 Labradoodle sisters River and Paisley 18 months old and 1 female Great Dane puppy Skye 4 1/2 months old and she is having a horrible time with soft stools the vet had me put her on Purina pro plan large breed puppy and it makes me just sick feeding her it it's got such horrific ingredients in it and unless I add a physillium fiber capsule to it she is still having runny poops. Is it even affordable for me to feed them a home cooked diet? How much do they eat per feeding? I the Vet put her on Visbiom and pro pectlin and I added the fiber capsule and she still had the same problem. Vet had me worm her 2x with the last being for 5 days even tho her stool came back negative for anything. And an antibiotic. I know her Microbiome health is terrible I don't know how to help her. Sorry this was so long.

My 2 yr old retriever has been suffering from what my vet assumed, ibd. The ultrasound is perfect except for a few swollen lymph nodes in his stomach, of which my vet said that it's nothing to worry about. He had bloody diarrhea, then very smelly soft stool, and occasionally perfect poop. I have tried both raw and cooked following instruction I've found and as it claimed to be balance but that didn't work out. I guess it's meant for healthy dogs, as in, dogs with perfect biome. Is it possible that some dogs don't do well with high amount of meat protein? I'm very confused with mixed info about giving dogs carb and fibre like rice, sweet potato, veggies etc, saying that dogs only need protein, organs and little fibre. How should I prepare for my dog that is sufffering from ibd/colitis?
@FarmersMarketFido
@FarmersMarketFido Год назад
It is true that every dog is different. Im sorry that your pup is going through this. Ulcerative colitis sucks! It can be related to disbiosis. Animal Biome is a company that can test for this issue and guide your vet toward fixing it. Another thing that has worked for me is to kill the gut flora completely with enrofloxacin and metronidazole and then start over with excellent nutrition and probiotics. Sometimes that does mean a very bland and boring diet for a few weeks. Lean ground turkey and rice for example. Unless he is allergic to either of those things. Sweet potatoes and pumpkin also help. They can not go longer than two weeks without a balance diet. So you will need to either use a GI canned food or cook for him. I would highly recommend the food allergy test from hemopet.org to guide your diet choices for him moving forward. Once he is healed then a raw diet can work again. Unfortunately, sometimes the raw diets can actually cause this if the ingredients were not sourced well/clean. That is why I typically recommend a done for you reputable company like www.darwinspet.com You can use code DRFUSCH for a discount

The liver is easier to cut after cooking. Tried while raw yesterday..what a mess! So leave big pieces to pull out and cut after.

My dog is allergic to beef, beef liver, chicken, venison, lamb, and turkey. Very limited on making homemade meals for her. What can I substitute for the beef liver in this recipe? Duck and fish are two things she can have.

Mine can't take most proteins either, really no land animal (poultry, beef, kangaroo, venison, rabbit, etc) - only fish. wish this only had fish protein!

Love this recipe! I have 3 dogs. One is allergic to all beef. The other is allergic to all chicken. The other is allergic to all grain. So as much as I want to add chicken liver or beef liver, I can't. It is much harder (almost impossible) in my area to find other organ meats. And with 3 dogs, I need to make the recipes cost affordable without adding grain. I do not have time to make 3 different recipes. I have only 1 InstaPot. Do you have a recipe for my guys??? Help!

I am not concerned about fish bones at all! And yes to the slow cooker. I would just cook the Quinoa normally and then the rest with it in the slow cooker on low for 2-3 hours. Fish cooks fast.

Hi I have a 4 month puppy. What changes can I make to this recipe for her? I don’t want to give her kibble
@FarmersMarketFido
@FarmersMarketFido 3 года назад
It depends a little bit on the age and breed but, a puppy video is coming soon:) Large breed puppies should have less calcium than small breed puppies to avoid hypertrophic osteodystrophy. This recipe will be good for large breed puppies.
@bmontford372
@bmontford372 10 месяцев назад
Where is the calcium? I use crushed eggshells. I have a whippet with pancreatitis so use more leafy greens and less starchy carbs. Usually stick to sweet potato for carbs. This recipe would be ideal for her with those tweaks. She loves it.
@FarmersMarketFido
@FarmersMarketFido 10 месяцев назад
Yes, egg shell powder is the calcium source in this recipe.
@FarmersMarketFido
@FarmersMarketFido 10 месяцев назад
And quinoa is one of the highest protein carb sources available. Not that they have to have carbs, but it does help to keep the fat down, which is very important with dogs who have pancreatitis.

The only thing I would say about Yorkies and other small breed dogs is that we don’t want to have it be too high and fat, which all the ones that include some carbohydrates should be fine

I understand your concern with the cans. If you can find the items in a carton or even rehydrate dried beans then that works too. We sometimes have to do the best we can and this is way better than kibble. The plastic and ink leaks into the kibble from the beg too. You have to choose for yourself.
