In today's video, we discuss home decor and furniture that you NEED to stop buying! We all love to pick up these home decor items, but there is a more strategic shopping strategy that can save you money and keep your home looking beautiful. For example, so many of us buy coffee table books from HomeGoods that are overpriced or don't add any style to our homes when we could instead reuse books we already own or buy decorative boxes that LOOK like coffee table books, but actually store items that easily clutter up your surfaces.
In today's video I talk about rugs, coffee table books, seasonal decor, decorative pillows, storage containers, and things you can't return! While I tell you why you shouldn't buy these items, I also provide you with aesthetically pleasing, affordable alternatives! Are there other items that you think people need to stop buying?
Which home decor item are you guilty of buying? Let me know down below ⬇️!
Thank you so much for watching and please remember to subscribe! 💕

I apologize for the audio troubles! I used a new editing software this time around and while it sounded good on my end, I can see that you are all having difficulty hearing me. One thing I have found with purchasing pillow covers, I’m not storing 20 pillows. I have six or eight and I change the covers and they’re always out. So I’m only storing the pillow covers which takes up a lot less space 👍🏻 Also, Amazon has a great selection of pillow covers in a variety of sizes.
@WereRen

Growing up my mom always got dish towels for each season, and I’ve started doing that now too, because they’re easy to store but a cute way to add something in the kitchen for the holiday. And she would buy fresh flowers that went with the season because they get discarded anyway. I’ve started to do these things too so i don’t feel fomo about seasonal decor!
@trianna2008
@trianna2008 3 года назад
This. We’d always have curtains, tablecloths, kitchen linens, bedding sets, etc. that matched each season/weather. Sometimes we’d switch them out for a change of pace out of season, but it’s a fairly inexpensive way to easily decorate your house. Plus, nearly all of these things have lasted 20+ years.

I have books that I place around my home but they are not your typical “coffee table book.” They are books that I get anyway because I honestly love to read and they are about subjects that I am genuinely interested in. Many times you can pick up fantastic books at thrift stores for next to nothing. I never really understood the wooden bead thing but farmhouse is not really my style so maybe that is a farmhouse thing. Maybe try other florals, branches. There are so many interesting textures and colors & honestly the prices they’re asking for dried pampas grass is a bit insane. I go out in the garden or forever along the river. Just be safe and don’t cut things down that you shouldn’t. Check local ordinances. Call your HOA manager. Sometimes the landscaping at the end of a season is going to die anyway. Ask if you can cut some of the tall ornamental grasses at the end of the season. You can dry it for use. Remember that trends come and go because so many people jump on the bandwagon. Stay true to your own personal style and you will end up with a home/space that you love. ❤️

I get my coffee table books from the thrift store for $1-$2 each. Take off the ugly paper cover and VERY likely it's a neutral coloured hard cover book with white, black, gold, or silver text. And choose books that resonate with YOU! I've been able to find so many awesome coffee table books based on nature and places I love to travel and they look awesome, cost almost nothing, and of course are second hand. I do have a small handful of coffee table books on interior design that I actually have read and enjoyed and to me those are worth it - but if I'm not interested in the contents of the book, I'm not buying it. I buy used pillows at a donation shop. Lots are brand new but I can always spray a little Lysol on it. I end up spending $2 or $3 for the forms. I do the same for my front porch and screened in porch pillows.

My Dad used to tell me "Mind the pennies and the dollars will follow". So true! I'm like you, I love Xmas and have a lot of Xmas decor. For other holidays, like Easter, I set a budget ($20 or so) and I decorate with tulips or hyacinth, bowls of jelly beans, etc. Things that are festive and can be used, enjoyed or discarded easily when holiday is over. Love your motto of no budget shaming! :) Always enjoy your videos!

I've definitely got a room full of things that I bought that I should've waited until my vision was timed the right way instead of buying ahead of time and then just storing it because by the time I actually see the vision through my style has changed or I decide on some thing else so I've definitely been guilty of doing some of the things that you are encouraging us to think about I totally now work my best to shop with intention and I love you saying that because I'm really big on that shopping with intention and taking my time and not being in a hurry even if it goes out of stock it'll come back in stock and if it doesn't I'm sure I'll find something else equally as beautiful so as usual thank you for all your pearls of wisdom have a great weekend😘😘😘🥴👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Hey Kiva! Maybe you do this on purpose and I've missed you discuss it somewhere but if not, just an FYI, your video volume is much much lower compared to others in your field. I'm not sure if it's a mic thing or editing or what but if I'm watching a video from Nick or Arvin or most others and then go to one of yours I can barely hear yours whereas theirs were very loud at the same volume setting on my phone.
