They were attending an a cappella festival in Austria. They flew over this valley &, called their guys here in the U.S…….said can you get yourselves over there, they said yes….& there it is ❤️. It’s in the Austrian Alps….so beautiful ‼️❤️‼️💥 This is my absolute favorite version I’ve Ever heard. You’d think it was a whole choir singing ‼️
So Glad you got to Hear this one, Home Free taking us to Church without being preachy about it. Just allowing the listener to think on it and truly feel it. It was filmed in the Alps, right before their European tour was cut short. Adam Rupp is a Tenor, he doesn't have the formal training the rest have had but the talent was there to be developed. He say's he learned with the sing pro app.
I checked Wikipedia, and this hymn has been (documented) recorded over 1700 times, including by Elvis. It was first sang in Sweden in 1888. So, there's no "original" version to hear. This is my absolute favorite version of the hymn. It's very popular with the Home Fries and HF, as Home Free sang it at their concert I attended last month. Good reaction!
The video was shot in the Austrian Alps. The guys from Home Free have the richest harmonies I've ever heard in a band. This song is one of the few where Adam the beatboxer sings. These guys are phenomenal.
Hey guy's! Thanks for this Amazing video! It truly is the most beautiful performance I've ever heard! It is my favorite version ever! This was done in the Alps of Austria while the guy's were on their European tour before Covid lockdown. Appreciate you!
Love your reaction. You both lift my spirits. This is one of my favourite songs that HF does. The double bass end note with Tim and Chance sounds like a church organ to me. Thank you for doing this.
This is the most beautiful version of this that I’ve ever heard. And even though I’ve listened to it many times and heard them sing it live several times, I still got chills. I think it’s the beauty of the arrangement and their voices that make it so special.
This is the only version of this song that I love. I'm 68 almost 69, sung this song since I was small, this is my favorite. Take a listen to their cover of "Blue Ain't Your Color" & "When A Man Love's A Woman". They will blow you away. Also welcome to the"rabbit hole" of Home Free. Enjoy!!!
My great grandmother came from this area (Alps) and came to America in the late 1800s. They settled in the Jackson Hole , Wyoming area and she always said the Tetons reminded her of the Alps. Wasn't this the most beautiful rendition of this song you've ever heard? Brings a tear or two. The bass does rattle your bones. Thanks again for your reaction. ⛰🏔⛰🏔
I believe it was filmed in the Austrian Alps. This is my absolute favorite rendition of this hymn. Home Free is magical, and this was stunning! Thank you for your reaction!
This place is Kemater Alm, Southwest off Innsbruck in Austria. They drove there, and hiked up the slopes to where they shoot the video, and it was a challenge to get there 😉 Those five part harmonies are just are a treat for the ears 🥰 And to ad it on, Adam's beautiful tenor solo ❤ Three part tenor at the end, and then Tim & Chance blast in with theire bass', it's just to die for. You don't have to be an devoted christian, to enjoy sutch good singing, I'm a true blood athiest, but just love theire rendition on this song. Did you noticed the "staireway to heaven" in the arrangementet? Starting with the bass, then tenor and last high tenor.
HOME FREE does the best version of this that I have ever heard! It was filmed in the Austrian Alps! BEAUTIFUL, MAJESTIC, MAGNIGICIENT! THEY ARE AWESOME!!! ADAM Rupp sings on this one!! He has a beautiful voice. EACH MEMBER has a great voice! GOD SENT
I got to hear this live at their concert on 12/5/21 (my first concert) and it was just as amazing in person. I was in tears. This is one of their most amazing songs. Love watching your reactions!
Agreed. This song was written in the early 50s as a church hymn in a choir format, not as a song for professional recording. It also incorporated a portion of the 1880's church hymn, It Is Well, which was the part sung by Adam. Although many professional Christian singers have recorded this song, this is the best version of this song I have ever heard. The rich harmonies, and intricate layering of HF's arrangement is spectacular.
Not exactly....from Wikipedia... ""How Great Thou Art" is a Christian hymn based on a Swedish traditional melody and a poem written by Carl Boberg (1859-1940) in Mönsterås, Sweden, in 1885."
I grew up never going to church. And to this day, I'm not a fan of organized religion. I am, however, a spiritual person. More of a "It's better to be sitting on a riverbank fishing and thinking of God, than to be sitting in church and thinking about fishing." I actually spoke to a pastor about my personal relationship with God and he told me that each person has their own way of communicating with God and that you don't need to be within the walls of a building for it to be right for you. That being said, I enjoy many hymns and I often come to this video to calm my anxiety when life gets too hectic for my mind to process. This version is a balm to my soul. Home Free has a song that covers whatever ails me! We're very fortunate to have them, in my opinion. Great reaction! Keep them coming!
Up until now, my favorite cover of How Great Thou Art has been by The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Understand, I am a Mormon, and I love the choir! Home Free takes this song to a higher level...
They add into this PHENOMENAL "How Great Thou Art" .... a section of "It Is Well With My Heart" .... it is so well conceived and perfectly inject5ed into an already powerful Christian Tribute to the LORD .... and YES, You Can Say It - How Great They are !!! jj
Yes, I think it’s the best version I’ve heard too. I don’t know that there’s an original version since it’s old and is usually sung in church. You are closer to those mountains than we are. It’s the Austrian Alps filmed when they were touring there. They picked a beautiful place to film it for sure. Home Free is known for terrific harmonies and they are just fantastic. Try Helplessly Hoping, One Man Band, In the Blood, Country Roads. Good reaction boys!
IMO the most reverent version of this song. they are all very patriotic, spiritual and inclusive in their lives. they have all said they knew they had "made it" when they were boycotted by Westboro Baptist Church. austin's father sang in a travelling gospel quartet so he was raised singing church music
As far as I know Adam Rupp's solo in the transition phrase from "It is Well with My Soul" is the only solo he has performed. If you are talking about the Sea Shanty performance you might be referring to the castanets in Santiana. He has a tenor voice and sings harmony in performances where the beat boxing isn't required like "Helplessly Hoping" and "Brothers in Arms". If you haven't reacted to "Helplessly Hoping" (I tried to find your reaction, but it didn't turn up) it would be a gem, the harmonies are off the charts beautiful. If you have a cathedral style church with stone arches and high ceilings this hymn will echo down around you like a gentle spring rain, soothing and uplifting at the same time.
Adam Rupp has a lovely tenor voice somewhere between Rob's voice and Austin's. He doesn't sing often as he does not have the voice training the other guys have but as you heard, his voice is really lovely. I think you guys would love their Fishin in the Dark/Boondocks mashup. It is older, done when Adam Rupp's brother, Chris was still in the group. That one or "Hillbilly Bone" Both have definite country feel and are sure to make you smile.
Thank you for doing this one. Second HF video I ever watched (on repeat for 30 minutes). Still love it many listens later. Adam's beautiful tenor you also hear in Helplessly Hoping. His added tenor is what made the harmonies in Brothers In Arms so rich.
It is incredible how the Holy Spirit washes over me each and every time I listen to this song. That tingling feeling you experienced is the work of our great and amazing God - oh God, how great you are!
This was filmed in the Austrian Alps, while they were doing a festival. Adam Rupp has a voice very similar to Rob's. At least that is what his brother Chris says. Truly enjoyed watching your reactions to this song.
Lovely reactions, thank you. Home Free has a video they made when they filmed this song. It's well worth watching to get background on how and why they recorded it. I've heard dozens of versions by numerous choirs as well as single artists and Home Free's rendition is by far the best. It sends chills over me and brings me to tears every time I hear their version.
Beatboxer Adam Rupp has a university degree in trumpet performance, and plays several other instruments as well. He sings on songs like this one where beatboxing/vocal percussion would be inappropriate. He doesn't sing lead very often for the same reason that the other guys don't beatbox: why choose the second-best option?
I thing you would enjoy their song "Everybody Walkin' this Land." And be sure to watch past where the song ends . Here is the link for the official video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q5H1i2GBxEc.html
Once again thank you for the great reaction, you both are funny and give your best and honest opinions to the reactions. Always a smiling. Keep those HOME FREE songs coming
"How Great Thou Art" and "Beautiful Savior" were my grandmother's favorite hymns. They were written and composed by Martin Luther in the early 15oo's. We were raised in the Lutheran Church. I'm guessing other protestant churches sang these hymns, but not Catholic?
My favorite version of this beautiful hymn! There is a “behind the scenes” video of this shoot. Just look up Home Free - From the Vault - Episode 8. It is a lot of fun. Great reaction, guys! Loving your channel.
This video was my introduction to listening to Home Free. I've read that they were in Europe (at a music festival?) and decided this would be a fitting setting for "How Great Thou Art". Totally agree. They arranged for drone footage at this location and after seeing and hearing this I became a Home Fry. Thanks so much for reacting to this wonderful rendition of the song. Take care and stay well. Glad to have found your channel.
I think this is one of the best versions of this song. Tim's bass really carries the song. I just found Home Free last year & love these 5 talented guys. And the scenery is awesome filmed in the beautiful Austrian Alps (my dad comes from that area).
From what I've heard this was a couple of years ago when Home Free was on their European tour. The were flying over this area, the Alps, when someone said that looked like a great place to do a video. The arrangements were made and they had to helicopter in and there you have it.
Thanks for the great reaction guys and thanks for noticing and commenting on Adam actually singing. Most reactors don't seem to notice him unless he's beatboxing. We all know his beatboxing his PHENOMENAL BUT he also has a beautiful voice!!!
So this was filmed in the Austrian Alps the second time they came to Europe and they were coming to do one show only during a country festival and it's their only music video filmed in Europe to date. It was in September, 2016. The "original" of this hymn would be in Swedish as it's a Swedish hymn. Lyrics are based on a poem written by Carl Boberg after experiencing a sudden thunderstorm and the melody is originally a traditional Swedish melody. It is the most known and most recorded hymn worldwide. There are a few versions in English with this being by far the most popular one. Thanks for the reaction, guys! 🙏🥰
Thank you again for playing such amazing videos & for your commentaries. You mentioned in a previous video that you hadn't heard a solo by the high tenor (Austin Brown) - if you haven't already done so, watch their cover of "When A Man Loves a Woman". To hear a sample of Tim Foust's range (the bass) watch the video of "Snow Globe" (which Tim Foust wrote).
It was written in 1885. There's not really an original version to listen to. I keep seeing comments on all the reaction videos for this song saying that it was filmed in the Austrian Alps. But I am fairly sure I heard one of them say in an interview that it was the Swiss Alps and that is what comes up when you Google it. Either way, though, the Alps, not in the USA or New Zealand.
I have no belief in religion. As a non religious person, I think these particular people perform a beautiful version of a song that's been done to death.
I love Home Free, they’ve done several hymns and I love that about them. They’ve got a funny side too- If you want to see their personalities and their humor watch the butts remix, or all about that Bass by Meghan Trainor their cover. They also have one that’s pretty funny called Hillbilly Bone which is another one of my favorites. They teamed up with the United States Air Force band and Lee Greenwood to do “I’m Proud to be an American” and it’s fantastic. They also did Elvira with The Oak Ridge boys which is also really good. And if you want to good cry watch Go Rest High on that Mountain.
I’m really liking your channel! Also like having some UK Homefries out there too! Your content is so entertaining, look forward to seeing more. Thanks you guys!
What you mind find interesting to watch on their page is the behind the scenes they released for this on the 'from the vault' series. This is the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-snprapb2CFE.html Thank you for your HF reactions from this slightly displaced Yorkshire Lass
If you have never seen any of their live performances, they are just as good, even under less than ideal circumstances. They had a concert get rained out, and the guys came out to where people were sheltered and did a beautiful off mic version of How Great Thou Art ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SoVFPvp8Vh4.html
Visual recording ( studio audio cut being lip sync'd ) by DRONES and fixed camera points IN THE AUSTRIAN ALPS .... where God is praised - there should works of the Lord to display the awesome power of God !!! Bravo. Home Free !!! GBjj
