The Oak Ridge Boys were the ones that recorded this originally. It was extremely popular and I'm impressed that they can still sing as well as they do.

The white hairs and the base singer that's older and the kinda reddish hair w mustache and little bit of a beard is the ones who are the Oak Ridge boys. The one with long white beards wife drove my school bus and if she was sick he would. He was so cool we thought when we were 13, 14 years old.
This is a great collaboration. I'm so glad you did this one. The Oak Ridge Boys were huge in their time and this was one of their biggest hits. They are still really big in the gospel circles.
THIS IS THE OAK RIDGE BOYS SONG, they do it a lot better when it is just them, All there music is Happy country they don't have any drinking and cheating songs that I know of. The best live show i have ever been to was a Free OAK Ridge boys concert on the green where I went to college.
The oak ridge boys have done this song since the early 80's..this is their song..their names are Joe bonsall, Duane Allen, William Lee golden and the bass is Richard Sterban..the orginional oom papa now mow....they are the ones who really helped get home free into mainstream.
you should do a live version of this song with just Oak Ridge Boys; there's a version of them singing it at some awards show back in the 70s and the girls screamed when the bass sang...haha
Hey Billy you should check out a song called " I Know how to make a boy cry." Not sure of the artist name but very good catchy song. Also Hunter Hayes " Dear God" I love them both!
If you really want to experience the song to it's fullest - listen to the Album version ; the live version is ok - but in my opinion the Album version is best unless you are at the concert then the live version is good.

Have always loved this song! Well, by the ORBs, have never heard this version before. Has anybody else ever noticed that Elvira is clearly a horse? No? Listen to the chorus again, they can only be talking to a horse.
Elvira was the hostess of the Friday night horror show series back in those days. She was very pretty, in a goth sort of way.The songwriter had a crush on her. It would be a cool name for a horse, though.

The Oak Ridge Boys are the original singers of this song. The Oak Ridge Boys originally released this song in 1981. I was 11 going on 12 years old when this song was originally released. The original is better in my opinion.
