They're covering a 50-year-old song, along with the original artists. They also did a collab of "Children, Go Where I Send Thee" with Kenny Rogers in 2015. And a 50th anniversary commemorative collab of "American Pie" with Don McLean, at McLean's suggestion, in 2021. Pentatonix did a collab of "Jolene" with Dolly Parton in 2016.
Yeah, I was just ballparking. I could swear that the Oak Ridge version came out in the 1970s, but apparently not. 1981. On the other hand, I now know that the song was written, and recorded and released by the original writer, in 1966. And there were many other recorded versions, prior to the Oaks version. So I was also incorrect in calling them the original artists.
Oak Ridge Boys are incredible. My favorite country group growing up in the 70s and 80s. Many Many hits. So awesome to see them sing with Home Free. ORB still sing great for being in their late 60s and early 70s.
This is a great collaboration between Home Free & The Oakridge Boys. "Elvira" was a huge hit for The Oakridge Boys in 1981. You can see the great respect these 2 groups have for each other. The Oakridge Boys are mentors to Home Free & it is like they are passing the baton to a younger version of themselves. They have performed together on the Grand Ole Opry. Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is the best in the business. He can simulate drums & any other sounds perfectly. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are so talented yet very humble guys.
I always loved this song when the Oak Ridge Boys recorded it in 1981. Tim's low note at 5:16 is on the breathy side - but I admit I am spoiled listening to Geoff Castellucci's bass tones. In the original recording, the guy really hit it each time. But, this arrangement is terrific😉😉😉!
This really gives me the sense of "Oak Ridge Boys Past" meeting "Home Free fellas future". The ORB' bass, Richard Sterban, sang bass for Elvis Presley early in his career. Home Free definitely collaborated with true country legends on this song--and I LOVE this collaboration❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
Elvira was a huge hit for The Oak Ridge Boys in 1981. It was the CMA Single of the Year in 1981. They have been inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Gospel Hall of Fame. ORB mentored HF, and HF lovingly refers to the ORB as their "dirty uncles."
Home Free considers the Oakridge boys they're dirty uncles it was like the og's showing the young guys how it's done and the yong guys showing how they do things. Home Free has sang with the oakridge boys on a few occasions and has become good friends. Great reaction man.
Their "Butts Remix" will have you rolling! I've probably watched/heard it a hundred times, & I still crack up!! Their new "Listen to the Music" will have you up & dancing & with a big grin on your face coz it's a feel good song for sure!!!
The Oakridge Boys were a really big deal in the 70's through the 90's and more. This was their song that they made famous. Home Free had so much fun doing the song with them. It was fun watching Austin fanboy over them. It shows how modest they still are even with all their success.
Oak Ridge Boys were tops back in the day. Lols love that jerk you gave when Joe let go. Now Richard sturban is the Bass. He has also sang back up for Elvis. You need to check them out.
A great collaboration of two groups with all fantastic voices. It's like seeing The Oak Ridge Brothers as Home Free in the future or Home Free like The Oak Ridge Brothers were in the past☺
Elvira was a big hit for the Oak Ridge boys in the 80’s. They do a Christmas song with the Oak Ridge boys too. Really nice collaborations. They’ve sung with Alabama, Kenny Rogers, Lee Greenwood, Don McLean, and Oak Ridge boys. Now they’re collaborating with newer groups too, Texas Hill, Jeffrey East and Maggie Baugh. Home Free is so talented. You might love Brothers in Arms with Tim going low or I Can’t Outrun You with Chance singing low. Tim also collaborates with Peter Hollens on many songs and you’ll love Misty Mountains with lots of bass. Good reaction Matts. 😍
Austin had the autographed shirt framed and it's hanging in his house. The Oaks are country music legends, and also appeared on HF's streamed Christmas special, where they did Beautiful Star of Bethlehem together with Jeffrey East. It's really great.
@@ryanellsworth7246 ... I know Alabama appeared on a show. But if you check out the Bethlehem video, it looks the streamed show I saw. I could be wrong, though!
@@ryanellsworth7246 Exactly! Christmas in Dixie with Alabama and Beautiful Star of Bethlehem with the Oak Ridge Boys. Both were awesome! I listen to them year round because they're so well done!
Oak Ridge Boys did the original and Home Free did a great job joining them. You should listen to Home Free and Kenny Rogers with Children go where I tell thee. Love your reaction.
The Oak Ridge Boys are country Royalty. They seem like a bunch of nice guys. HF has said they would like to emulate the ORB. I think both groups have a real friendship and phenomenal relationship with their fans. Now if HF is blessed with a long career as a group they will have it made.
Check out the Oakridge Boys original of this. Tim always looked up to Richard (bass of the Oakridge Boys) so getting to sing with them on this song was a HUGE deal for him.
That old guy with the long beard and hat is one of the 4 men from the Oak Ridge Boys. They were around in the late 70's and 80's. That long bearded man gets down on his knees when he sings their song, "Thank God for Kids" at concerts.
Oh dude! Old school country Oak Ridge Boys are like The Beach Boys to Country. Many folks grew up with these icons. Elvira is old school awesome! Watch their teamups with Lee Greenwood God Bless the USA and Don McLean American Pie. Their Gambler with Kenny Rogers is pretty cool as well.
Thanks for your reaction to this fun one! The Oak Ridge Boys are the artists that originally did this song so Home Free was probably nervous preparing for this but look like they are having a great time with these country legends. Geoff Castellucci helped Tim do the arrangement on this one.
legends and legends in the making. Home Free have been invited to sing with many legends. This collaboration is fabulous. The Oak Ridge Boys haven't missed a step, they sound awesome and Home Free were certainly up for the task. Together they are dynamite! Austin's voice rings out so strong he could knock drones out of the sky. Adam's beat boxing/vocal percussion was insanely good. Some of my favorite Home Free offerings are Blue Ain't Your Color, The Driver, Brother, Folsom Prison Blues, Listen To The Music, Moonshine, Diamond Dreams on You Tube and Ain't Goin' Down Til The Sun Comes Up on Facebook. It's so much fun watching someone discover how fabulous "our guys" are. You've only just started discovering the depths of their talents. Thanks for a great reaction. Glad to see how much you enjoyed this.
Fun fact this was arranged by Tim Foust, Geoff Castellucci, and VoicePlay. Geoff Castellucci also did a wonderful Low Bass cover of Take Me Home Country Road you should give a listen to.
This is a classic sing out loud tune! The Oak Ridge Boys are gold! I love this colab. They all had to be so thrilled to be singing together and appreciating their talents!
The Oak Ridge Boys were very popular in country music in the 80's, and they still tour. One of the "Oaks" actually reached out to Home Free after he saw them sing a Christmas song "Angels We Have Heard On High" On a local news channel when they were in that town doing a show. Then they got together and did this collaboration together.
They also did a collaboration with The Oak Ridge Boys and Jeffrey East on O, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem. Austin goes full-out gospel on that one. These guys have become mentors to Home Free and lent them a lot of "country cred" when they first came on the national scene. The proud looks on the older men's faces when Austin belts out that gospel section on stage is priceless. I know it's not Christmas yet, but it's definitely worth watching any time of year.
I tell people that Home Free is my happy place! They are an addiction for which I want no no cure. Please don't stage an intervention! Lol! But, seriously, they have so much chemistry with absolutely everyone that they collaborate with that it's ridiculous. And that they remain humble and approachable str just more reasons for us Home Fries to be so loyal to them. ❤
Glad you picked this song with the guys and the Oak Ridge Boys. They really did it so well and so much fun together. The Oaks picked up the name Elvira off of a street sign in Nashville back in the day. You have been given a lot of songs to choose from and they are all great. Lot more fun to come. Thanks.
This was truly amazing for the guy's from Home Free. Tim always wanted to be Richard Sterban from the Oak Ridge Boys. The Oak Ridge Boys are like mentors to them know. The have done many things together since this song. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.
I grew up listening to the Oak Ridge Boys and this song,Home Free was a favorite I discovered when they were on the Sing Off and this song by the two groups together is a dream for me!! Thanks for the reaction! Tim is phenomenal!! And Adam, the beatboxer,is wildly famous in the beat boxing world and has won many competitions. The oak Ridge Boys still sound awesome, and im so glad they asked Home Free to take their place in country music.😄✌
This song was it when I was a kid. Don't feel bad, my kids aren't down with my music either...lol. Great Reaction, you should try the original. Be Blessed
I've seen this video so many times and I love every viewing. They seem to "pair" up with their counterparts from each group, bass with bass, tenors together, drummers together, etc. They have so much respect for each other and so much fun! Elvira was one of my favorite songs growing up so this collab is FIRE for me!!!
Elvira was one of the Oak Ridge Boy's many hits back in the early 1980s. The man with the white beard who didn't do a solo in this video is William Golden, baritone for the Oak Ridge Boys. He was 74 when this video was made, his voice may not have been up to a solo. He has had that beard since the 1980s.
Oak Ridge Boys are a group from the 1950s and have been around a long time. They also do songs with Don McLean, Alabama, and Kenny Rogers. For a real treat, check out Adam Rupp (beatboxer) when he does a drum solo...there are several, the earliest was in 2015 and I liked the 2018 one best. There's also a video of them all doing beatboxing titled 9to5 breakdown. They are all so gifted and they've worked hard, but it always seems to be so much fun. This medley is a fan favourite and they do it at most of their concerts (videos of concerts on RU-vid). Keep 'em coming and your channel will get a big boost from die-hard Home Fries.
Elvira was a hit in the 80's with the bass hitting that low note and all the rage back then....they reached out to HF for this collab I believe...and the arrangement was done by Geoff from Voiceplay. Then of course Tim added the low low note at the end....
I love that Richard's deep, rich tones are what you hear within the singing of the song with Tim keeping up the bassline beat until he interacts with his solo parts.
The Home Fries LOVE to watch reactors discover Home Free. BTW do you know what Matt's subscriber number was at before he started reacting to Home Free.
Oak Ridge been around longer than that guys beard. This is an Oak Ridge song 20+ hears ago and they began more as country gospel but hit Rock and Roll era big time Home Free and Oak Ridge are great friends and it was Oak Roidge who asked to collaborate. They have a newer collaboration that is great "O BEAUTIFUL STAR OF BETHLEHEM". YOU CAN SEE THE CAMADERIE AND REAL "HEAR" IT. It is more a Christmas time song but not Christmas more seasonal. They do have a very a guitar and vocalist with a great voice. Austin puts fire into it.
Home Free has another collaboration with the Oak Ridge Boys and Jeffrey East "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" and with Texas Hill on "Dreamer" and "Go Tell it on the Mountain". They also have a collaboration with Lee Greenwood on "God Bless the U.S.A." that's really stirring (even if you're not American, I'm Canadian too).
Okay first off I said if you continued down the HF rabbit hole I would happily subscribe and I just did. Now if you want to watch some of their collabs with big names you need to check out Children Go Where I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers. God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood and the USAF Singing Sargents (Fabulous) and American Pie with Don McClean. If you to check out just some really fun songs try Hillybilly Bone and The Butts Remix and go from there.
Bass: Tim Foust; High tenor: Austin Brown; Lead tenor (beard) Rob Lundquist; Baritone: Chris Rupp (older videos) Adam Chance (new); Beatboxer and occasional low tenor: Adam Rupp
Great reaction! The Oak Ridge Boys are country music legends. This is one of the ORB’s hits back in the last century (1980’s?) Please check out Home Free’s cover of When a Man Loves a Woman. Also, their recent release of the Doobie Brothers song Listen to the Music.
I sort of remember the Oak Ridge Boys original of this. The two groups sound so good together. I saw someone else describe this as Home Free today plus Home Free in 30 years. Such a fun video.
I just subscribed and am enjoying your Home Free reactions. I saw The Oak Ridge Boys in concert when i was 12 and also when i was in my 40's. They were wonderful both times.
I went looking for this video after watching a video of VoicePlay sing it at one of their live shows ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sYlzZUwpd-0.html and learning Geoff helped with the arrangement for Home Free. Havent watched much Home Free but it might be added to me list
