I have shed tears every time I’ve watched this video. It’s sheer brilliance that Rob sings lead in the most tender portions of this song….his voice has so many textures…the angelic quality that he has was just perfect. And….fellow Scottish heritage here.

I cry every time I see this, Travis. My son is a Marine. When he left for boot camp, I cried every day for 4 weeks. Hes been in now for almost 5 years. Hes my only son. Thank you for your honest, real reaction. The young man and woman in the video are both members of the military. I believe he is out now( a veteran) and she is active, as I understand it at the time of this video. Too many people dont realize the unfortunate reality of service members and their families in the respect that this does happen...or they just choose not to see it. I cant thank you enough for you voicing your support and appreciation for the military and its veterans, not only in this video but in others as well. I am such a fan of Home Free and of yours. Every time I think I'm going to make it through this song without crying, Adam comes in with that military snare and I lose it. I do the same in God Bless the USA when he does it! I cried right along with ya! I have been married to my hubby for 32 yrs (as of the 24th of this month) and he was in the Army for 27 of those yrs. He is a disabled vet now, after being injured in Iraq, but I certainly know what it's like to worry & pray every day that he would come home. Not all of his unit made it. I never take one day of our lives for granted, knowing those other wives did not get any more days with their husbands. I feel the same way every time I hear this song. I dont know for sure but I would imagine several of the airman I went through basic with back in ‘73 met their fate in Vietnam.

I cry every time I hear this. The first time I heard it one of my best friends was leaving for Iraq, thankfully he made it home safe. Now with Home Free rendition my boyfriend was in Afghanistan

When the Dixie chicks sang this it was a male soldier. The video draws you in thinking this might work out…until the end. Breaks my heart every time I hear this! Soldiers put their lives on the line every day for us to enjoy the freedoms we have. Very heartfelt and emotional reaction. Thank you Travis!

wow I have never heard these guys before and they did a great job covering the Dixie Chicks song Travelling Solider. The reversing of the genders and changing the war was an intresting take. I agree that the harmonies were amazing this groups is very talented.

Don't remember if I said in prior video comments but my Daddy was a decorated WW2 Veteran and he passed away before I could get to know him! It's difficult still at times when those feelings creep up unexpectedly and gives me a gut punch or I almost can feel the pain and ache in my heart like it is still ripping or broken. I really don't understand why I feel like that because how can you miss someone that you've never known? Seems strange but even though I physically didn't have him present with me, he is without a doubt the biggest influence and driving force I've ever had in my life! My Hero! I've overcome so many challenges and won so many personal battles and it is definitely in part because of his bravery and warrior spirit that he passed on to me! The amount of bravery of each soldier who goes into battle facing extreme danger knowing that death may over take them at any second and forges ahead anyway despite what could be the inevitable is unmeasurable! One of the reasons your channel is growing and gaining in popularity is because of YOU and your ability to show genuine emotion and empathy for others, so many people can relate to you and love seeing human emotions. Sometimes I just want to give you a hug, or get a hug from you because it's been almost 25 years since I was on the receiving end of a hug. On the other hand lot of people feel the same emotions and empathize the way you do but they were taught as children not to show those emotions because they make you appear weak and will hold you back from getting what you want in life. But I couldn't disagree more, to me it just means that you are an awesome person and good things come to good people.

Although written in 1996, this song was written about the Vietnam War, with the soldier being male. Nice touch by HF to switch genders and highlight the sacrifices of our women soldiers.
