Bahahaha love this reaction! Jase: "I'm scared." Me: YOU SHOULD BE 😆😆😆😆 Home Free is more country while PTX is more pop. Not that either group can't do the other genre well because they both can blast it all out of the water. But Avi... yeah, he'll always have a special place in my heart. You need to check out his solo stuff! His voice is like a soothing balm on your soul... and if you haven't had the privilege to hear his whistle, just you wait. Change on the Rise and I'll Get By are just a couple to check out!

You just heard two of the best basses in existence. Tim can actually go lower than Avi, but in my opinion, Avi has a richer tone. It's weird, but some of Avi and Tim's best bass vocals ever, both come from songs by a guy named Peter Hollens, who as actually an OG of the RU-vid performance scene. I thought he was, but didn't want to just toss it out if I wasn't right. It is crazy how many people from the Sign Off have gone somewhere. In the season 3 country episode, during the backstory, one of the girls from Delilah is talking about not getting country music, but I am guessing that isn't true since Ingrid Andress burst on to the country music scene this past year.

The members of Home Free are as follows: Tim, the bass (with long black hair) not named Avi; Adam, the beatboxer; Austin, tenor (with long hair); Rob, tenor (with glasses and beard); and Chris, tenor (with cowboy hat, also brother to Adam). However, this is an older video and Chris has left the group to pursue a solo career. He has been replaced with Chance, barritone, who has an incredible range like Tim and will take over the bass part when Tim sings lead. You should definitely check out more of Home Free and Pentatonix as there really isn't a bad song between them; there just may be some you like more than others.
@Katie-mb8zj

@garyblocker9135
@garyblocker9135 4 года назад
Chris Rupp was and continues to be a baritone. Like most pro vocalists, he has an excellent range. Chris sings most of the tenor range naturally - and well. For the HF group, Adam Chance replacing Chris is a big plus because he can also cover the bass line when Tim takes the lead. When Tim and Chance harmonize in the low registers, it's ear candy buried in the buffet.

Both groups won the Sing-Off - Pentatonix in season 3 and Home Free the next year in season 4. Difference is that Home Free were already singing as a professional group for years before the Sing-Off, while Pentatonix got together just one day before their Sing-Off audition. Yes, they had to learn to sing together and perfect their arrangements during the competition. Mitch even missed his high school graduation to compete in the Sing-Off. The result was magic. Unfortunately, after season 5 NBC cancelled the Sing-Off, so it is no more.

They were the winners of the show Sing Off, but they’ve been playing professionally for years before that. The show just gave them a media boost. They consider themselves the only country a cappella group but they sing everything. More soulful and gospelly (sometimes) than other pop a cappella groups. Out of all a cappella groups I’ve seen live...they sound the most like their recordings. I heard some pitch and depth issues with PTX and Voctave and Voice Play live. I also think their arrangements are more original than Voice Play and Voctave, but that may just be that I’m not as pop oriented within the music genres themselves. Love them all, but I love the feeling in HF’s music the best, talent aside.

Welcome to the rabbit hole, Jase! Once you've jumped into Pentatonix (aka PTX) and Home Free, it's hard not to just binge watch as much as you can! PTX is more modern pop, Home Free is Country. Pick your flavor! You have a long ways to go to catch up! Enjoy the ride and thanks for the great reactions!! Love seeing what everyone else thinks of the groups I love!

Ive watched this a number of times. You're reaction feels so much like how I felt seeing this the first time. Avi is king in my opinion. Maybe not the deepest voice but by far the best richest smoothest voice. Keep this up please. I love watching your ptx and homefree reactions.

Welcome to a whole new musical world! If you really want bass, check out voiceplay and their oogie boogie song. It’s INSANE! Also for sheer mastery in acapella, Pentatonix version of Gold and Daft Punk are ridiculously good. Lastly, Kevin Olusula, the Pentatonix beat boxer has his own RU-vid channel and the guy is amazingly talented beatboxing while playing the cello. Dude, you have so much to react to! Great job with the reactions. Keep em coming!

I was working live concerts when i discovered this song, and made our sound guy play it on the concert rig. You could feel the bass in your soul. and the sound guy didn't believe that a human voice could go that low

I really recommend Homefree's cover of Friends in Low Places and Misty Mountains with Peter Hollens ft Tim Foust (the guy who did the absurdly low note at the end)!!!

Welcome to Home Free. And yes.. Tim actually has a greater than 5 octave range and he hit the final note, and he actually taught Avi to reach lower notes than he already had. Each of them are incredible in different ways, Avi more classic, Tim more country, .. Tim blows subwoofers. lol. And yes, their beatboxer Adam is also a freak of nature. For more low notes from Tim, try Home Free's version of Man of Constant Sorrow, Your Man, Talking Out Loud/Lets Get It On, and... try Peter Holland with Tim Foust doing Misty Mountains, the note at the end vibrates the camera.

Pentatonix. Home Free. VoicePlay. Voctave. The four core acapella bands that have essentially taken over dominance in the acapella world. Pentatonix is known for their remixes of pop songs and their versatility. Avi is the king of silky sounding bass. C1-C#5 Home Free is known for their absurdly good harmonies (Helplessly Hoping / How Great Thou Art / Auld Lang Syne). Tim is the king of REALLY low growl notes and his impossible control over it (literally, no other person can growl with as much control as him). G0-A5 VoicePlay is known for their creativity and their bass. Geoff (the bass) is the king of subharmonics singing and can sing as low as Tim with it. A0-A5

Tim foust is the bass for home free he can definitely go lower than avi he actually taught avi a few things and helped avi to sing lower but they are both amazing basses you should definitely check out more of home free. Voice play is the other group their bass Geoff can also go lower than avi he’s an amazing bass as well but Tim can still go the lowest of the 3 I personally like Tim the best but it’s all personal preference lower doesn’t mean better

First thing, did you see the hat switch on Avi? Austin Brown, with long wavy hair, is the lead tenor, who fronts the group and sings most of the solos. Tenor harmony is sung by Rob Lundquist, baritone harmony is sung by Adam Chance, and Tim Foust sings bass, with the latter two switching roles occasionally. In addition to the four voices, percussion sounds are provided by beatboxer Adam Rupp. Although Brown is Home Free's primary soloist, all of the other members occasionally sing solos as well. Yes, Home Free won "Sing-Off" S4, 2013, the season after Pentatonix won.

Okay, well no need to suggest Home Free now, since you’ve seen/heard them now. Now all that’s left is to suggest more Home Free. Make sure to listen to some with both Chris and Chance in them. (This vid had Chris.) If I were to make a suggestion or two, In the Blood (originally by John Mayer) and How Great Thou Art. Really, though, you can’t go wrong with Home Free.

TYING EVERYBODY TOGETHER: On December 2013 Season 4 Finale of The Sing-Off (NBC): • Home Free (winners) • VoicePlay (3rd) • Pentatonix (returning Season 3 Champions) The following July 2014, Home Free (feat. Avi Kaplan of Pentatonix) released this epic cover of Johnny Cash's {Ring Of Fire}. All three groups have 5 extremely talented individuals who can solo or blend with the other 4. But, as much as the main leads stand out - all 3 groups have extraordinary basses and incredible beatboxers. Without those two, none of the groups would have achieved such notoriety. The ability to build on a strong bass and a beatboxer laying a great percussion track enable each group to shine on the widest range of songs. None of the six should be compared - only savored, together or separately. Footnotes: VoicePlay featured a added female singer for The Sing-Off competition. My opinion is that she was not the 6th person they needed. And for The Sing-Off Tour (live), they replaced her with a female lead from another competition group (in order to perform same arrangements). The previous Spring 2013, VoicePlay (feat. Rachel Potter) released a superb video of {I Knew You Were Trouble/As Long As You Love Me medley}. Rachel successfully auditioned for X-Factor Fall 2013 (several successful performances, but she was too seasoned to make finalist cut for that competition) - OTHERWISE, Home Free could have had serious competition from VoicePlay! (#2 Filharmonic was good, but maybe not that good). Several of VoicePlay's best video releases over the years feature Rachel Potter. I think the latest is {Moana Medley} - a fun video. Earlier (pre-2013) Rachel Potter had been a princess vocalist at Disney World - a link to both VoicePlay and Voctave (a 12+ member a capella group that featured PTX's Kirstin in a Disney Medley). Peter Hollens lead his group, On The Rocks, on Season 2 of The Sing Off and has collaborated with other groups appearing in the competitions - including Home Free and Avi Kaplan formerly of PTX.

I love Pentatonix, Home Free, VoicePlay, but honestly my favorite person out of all these is Avi, he has such an amazing solo career and he’s a super musician with a lot of versatility. I think he has the richest tone out of all of them. He also does this cool thing with overtones where he sings two notes at once. You can also see videos where he goes and sings with choirs and you can see that he really enjoys teaching the kids.

Home Free's bass (Tim Foust) has a 5+ octave range (there are 2 live videos on y/t where he's blown out speakers). Austin Brown (long curly hair) can hit notes 2 octaves above the tenor staff. Austin & Rob Lundquist (glasses) have a duet of "Nessun Dorma" (on Austin's channel) that is mind-blowing. They are all vocal chameleons. If you get time, watch "9-5 Beatboxing Breakdown" - astonishing.

VoicePlay was the other group, however, VoicePlay was in the same season of the Sing Off as Home Free (Pentatonix won the prior season) & Home Free beat out VoicePlay. On the Sing Off, the judges mention that Tim was the only true bass on the show that season. Geoff Castellucci was/is a true baritone, BUT Tim had worked with him after the contest to help him hit the lower octaves without hurting himself. Geoff has even said that on his YT tutorial vids. Avi has a more buttery tonality than Tim, but Tim can sustain the notes longer in the dragon's breath (chest note growls) than Avi. Tim had worked with Avi as well about sustaining the notes & not hurting himself. Love all of the bass guys in each of these groups.
@DougRayPhillips
@DougRayPhillips 4 года назад
Tim's final note in this performance is a G1 (49 Hz). When they did this in the 2013 singoff, his final note was an F#1 (46 Hz). The difference is very noticeable for me, because my hearing only goes down to about 40 Hz. His 46 note, in my headphones, was partly audible and partly just vague ear pressure.
