Good detailed pointers on tapping down the squeaks. What kind of shelving storage is that above the garage door? And where can i find it for sale? Thank you for the video.
Good job. Use your WD-40 first because like you said, it will wash off the lube. It also washes away some of the dirt that causes the squeaks. Then follow up with your penetrator, just like you did, for the lubrication. The white lithium grease is best on gate operators and you're100% right about the petroleum products. If all you have is axle grease, then drive straight to your closest store for your wd-40 & penetrator and forget about the axle grease. You even sprayed the bearings behind the drums , which is almost always not done until I bring it to the customers attention. Well done... Very accurate info, I'd hire you up in a heartbeat. if you ever get to west Texas area, look me up and bring your tool box. Haha!
+froggy definitely true, but I don't change the bearings when I change the springs. I did a job for a friend and I ordered him a 70,000 cycle spring for his door, I'm hoping I won't see either the bearings or spring for that door again. ;) I actually did see a video where the bearings wore out, but I'm sure it takes both a long time and a harsh environment. The bearing basically locks up and turns into a pipe cutter. It eventually wears right through the torque tube.
Not usually a fan of CA type Gov't overeach... years ago I narrowly escaped a snapped spring swinging free. Just as I was holding my one year old preparing to place her in her carseat, the spring broke free and it missed my head by no more than two inches!
If you changed the rollers to a 13 ball bearing sealed roller it would be even quieter. Those cheap rollers you have do not even have any ball bearings. I just did mine and what a difference the new rollers made.
froggy I got them from a a guy on eBay, $19.99 including Priority Mail shipping. The best $20. I ever spent. They are eBay item # 321180728842 I also have a Chamberlain Whisper drive and my door is almost silent after installing these rollers.
