This hits close to home. I know a lot of Vietnamese people. They came here with nothing, and have made a good living. The first ones scrounged and worked their butts off. After a few years they owned their own businesses, restaurants, welding shops, machine shops. Their children didn't go out to play except on Sundays. All the rest of the time they studied when not doing chores, older ones tutoring the younger ones. Those kids were mostly in the honors classes. The whole extended family contributed to them going to college. They became doctors, engineers, other professionals. I have nothing but admiration for them. Literally "pulled themselves up by their bootstraps" stories.
A truly beautiful film. Home is home, no matter where you came from.. that longing to never forget your history. Very good job conveying that for it's timely message about what immigrants go through.
Beautiful movie. Sweet and simple and poignant ... Very enjoyable. We're all travelers on this lonely planet, warming each other's hearts with love. Sometimes that love takes the shape of food or a memory or a welcoming place to be with others ...
This was an unexpected tear jerker. I'm an immigrant (from Eastern Europe) and we first lived in Houston. While there, I had a friend in elementary school that was one of the Vietnamese boat people -- we met in ESL class. My family had escaped European style communism, their family had escaped war-torn Vietnamese/Chinese style communism. My memories of those days came flooding back while watching this.
I saw this a while back. As an immigrant myself, it compelled me to write a short story about the things I left behind. Things over here are not the same.....until they are!
Yes It's hard for a long time but there's a moment when all seems lost and all of a sudden everything falls into place. I can't describe it and honestly don't want to understand it. We brought the beauty of a soul to a foreign country , third one works love in its own way and time.
It's a bit hidden but the theme song is based on " Can't help falling in Love with you " It's Elvis It makes perfect sense if you listen or read the lyrics.
It’s so messed up that a lot of people think they have to be ignorant to others to maintain their own “status” in the world when we could all work together and make a truly beautiful and meaningful place to live on this planet 🌎 , while we’re here . We are all just passing through , nobody stays here forever . That’s just a fact ! Peace ☮️ and good will to everyone . God bless you and take care .
