Rising damp has always been an issue on sandcrete block buildings since forever, it's not a recent issue. Its impact on walls has worsened now because the cement+sand quality we have now have severely degraded. We know about the clay-ish sand, but no one dares question these cement producers. Will try to find out.

Even the highest quality concrete contains a network of pores and capillaries and, without adequate damp-proofing protection, this may result in dampness or leaks causing deterioration of internal finishes. One cubic metre of normal, good quality dry concrete will absorb the equivalent of roughly 60 litres of water in just 30 minutes! (Test in accordance with BS 1881, part 122). It is the speed of this absorption that is important as this will directly affect the level of dampness, say in a basement, or the onset of reinforcement corrosion due to dissolved chlorides being carried into the concrete by water,.

Rising damp comes up from the ground. It will never be found higher than a metre up a structure. If damp is wettest on the ground and rises to within a metre of the floor, rising damp is likely. If the damp is more than a metre high and you can't see a ground source, it's probably penetrating damp.

Very good. That is correct and its one of the many names when dampness in general is being looked at as mentioned in the discussion. The common denominator being dampness. Penetrating dampness is usually from external rainwater causing dampness. There are many instances where you I have come accross rising damp though which is more than a metre with a water source from the ground.

Interesting topic, please invite Ghacem engineers and ask them what happened to their old bonding agent formula. There is more to the problem than what your panel on the show is saying. It starts with cement, sand and a course aggregate ratio.

And please ask the doctor and your experts if they have a lab or site in their facility they have been using to sturdy what they are saying. No data, no chemical analysis, is more of marketing a product I think.

I agree, and of course that's what all these so called experts are doing, no chemical analysis or data to proof, just marketing their products 😢
