The 'British' PCL type connector that you show is the common 1/4 inch one, they also make a 3/8 inch version which has a bigger bore.
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 Год назад
Hi buddy, yes, I'm aware they make a large one, but they tend to be bulky on a gun. The "British" QR connectors in 1/4 have a smaller bore than the Euro or US adapters, so they are best if used avoided if used with the high consumption guns

Hey Pete, I see you have the 15m hose angled upwards to the filters with no drain at the lowest point? Would the condensed water sit on the bottom of the line and some gets pushed up to your filter setup?
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 3 месяца назад
Hi Mate, the water in the hose wouldn't sit anywhere in the hose, not for long anyway, there's 145psi of pressure pushing any water along so it won't congregate anywhere in the line You see some elaborate setups sometimes of copper pipe with drainage at the bottom, looks good but not necessary, if you want to drain you pipe and not have it all go in the filter, then just put an open outlet, or a blower end on the pipe and let air out, everything that's in there comes out.

@@peteshobbies5383 Thank you I love how you always respond with so such much detail. I appreciate you, yes I have been commenting on a lot as I watch a lot of them I trust your advice. It is intimidating watching others on youtube with those elaborate setups and copper ain't cheap. Seeing your results with the setup you have I feel more at ease. Actually I am copying it I got 30m hose with 2 of those cheap filters going into a 2 big filters and another cheap filter regulator combo at the gun that should be good?

Hi Andy, you're welcome, mate, and thanks for the sub. A lot of people overlook the fact the moisture needs to condensate for the filter to remove it, if it's still warm vapour, so just out the compressor the filter finds it harder as the partials are so small, much better to have some pipe or hose that allows it to cool a little, you catch much more that way, cheers mate 👍

Quick question Pete - if you didn’t need breathable air, could you get away with your identical set up and just have a single stage water trap or a double in place of your 3 stage ? I only ask as it makes it alot cheaper . Thanks
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 11 месяцев назад
Hi mate, Yes, you could. The last of the three is the one to make air breathable so you can do away with it if you want

Nice simple setup, I’m not sure about the UK but here your suppose to use a special breathable hose from the coalescent filter to mask usually yellow in colour as identification. I’m in the process of building a cooling and filtration system for my main 8 hp compressor but just for small jobs that I do like a bumper or spot repair, I’ve bought an electric air fed mask which uses similar filters to standard cartridge respirator , I had my doubts but it works quite well, but I’m also planning to improve the filter system on this one to,

Hi Roger, yes, there is a special breathing hose that we use but there is no dedicated colour, most are blue but i have seen yellow and red as well. Hopefully the video came over ok, it's the question people ask the most and people often put a filter right at the compressor outlet and thats no good really as I'm sure you know, at least i can point people to the video now, cheers buddy, happy Christmas and a safe new year 👍

Sales sites show these as 'breathing' filters, I *think* you're using these for your guns? Is that right Pete please?
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 2 года назад
Hi Dave, the last filter in the series of 3 is what makes the air breathing quality, normally if your air supply can keep up this is what is used to supply the gun and the mask so they are used for both, when they are advertised as breathing air filters it's only to signify that the air is fit to breathe rather than that's what they are used for, so they can be used for just the gun, just the mask or normally both

Hi Pete, I'm just starting out and I have the same filter set up, apart from the small water filters, which I am going to add. This feeds my honeywell airflow screen. Is there any way of testing the air quality?
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 8 месяцев назад
Hi Andrew, there is but the equipment used is not something you would go out and buy as they are expensive, you normally get someone to come and check your air quality, as far as I know in professional spray settings it's once every 3 months but if you wanted to get it done less often then you can, provided your not employing anybody

Just watching this video Pete very well explained and interesting what's the filter gauge set at
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 Год назад
Hi Andy, the filter gauge is set normally around 4 bar, 3 bar for a mini gun. It all depends on the gun. The more air they draw, the higher you need it. Otherwise, you can't get the flow, so a Kiwami4 like yours would only need around 3.5 bar on the filter set to easy get 2 bar at the gun. A LS400 Iwata would need 4 to 4.5 bar to get 1.8 bar at the gun regulator because it uses over twice the air a Kiwami4 does

I keep reading about "lubricated" air. why would you want that with an HVLP Gun? I thought we need to filter the oil... not lubricate the air?
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 8 месяцев назад
The only time you want lubricated air is when using air powered power tools like grinders, sanders, and drills, and the main reason for that is because many airlines that are used for power tools don't have a comprehensive filter system that is used when using air for spraying.

Hello Pete, what you said about installing a longish hose between the compressor and water filter/separator is very true. Many people (this also includes me) put the filter right at the air exit of the compressor, thereby disabling the real benefit of the filter in the system. I have a good excuse because I am a newbie, but I have seen many setups where people install a regulator/water trapper combo right at the compressor. How long of a hose would you say we should install, 6ft, 10ft? Also, what hose type would you recommend? My favorite is rubber because it lasts a lifetime, but I understand there are new types out there made out of pvc, nylon (spiral ones) etc.
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 11 месяцев назад
Hi mate, As long as you can really, I have 15mts, which is around 50ft, it just loops around a few times, and I use a pvc hose to the filter set as it's normal cooler than rubber which helps turn the vapor into water faster. I do use a rubber hose as my final hose as it's nice and supple and stays so in the colder weather. As you say, having a filter right off the compressor is a waste as most of the water is still vapor, so travels through the filter. Cheers buddy 👍

Hey Pete, some very good and accurate info there mate, I see so many setups where the water trap/oil filter is fixed to the compressor so it's doing nothing to filter out the water and oil so a video like this is very handy 👍 My setup is similar to yours Pete but I have a dropout unit fitted before the 3 stage, those dropout filters are amazing and almost as good as a drier but I think mine was about £250 and it really keeps my 3 stage very clean, I change my filters every month or so and I also have a charcoal filter on my belt regulator for my airfed mask which needs changing every 1000 hours of use.

Hi John, It's a video I've been meaning to do for ages because people can see it's a none booth environment so they are naturally thinking i can do this at home so ask the questions, hopefully it helps some and i can point them to this video. I change my filters once a year, i normally put the one's from the pristine set into the spraying set and the new ones in the pristine set if that makes sense, these are about £150 a set so not far off a complete set up, i was thinking about a dropout filter, Sagola do a nice one that's around €240 in Spain but i get absolutely no problems with my setup so it's just not worth it for me i think, cheers buddy 👍

Yes mate good idea this is the type of video that people who are starting out at home needs to see, if anyone asks me I'll point them to this video as well 👍 I change my filters more often as I always use my airfed even for basecoat so like to be as save as possible. I didn't know Sagola did a dropout I'll have to have a look at it, as you say mate your setup is working perfectly for your needs so there isn't really any need to change it. Ok Pete have a good Christmas and we will see what else we can add to our collection next year 😁🙄 I'm currently stripping my wings back to bare metal then get them primed and I hope to do the same to the tank ready for next year 😎🤓👍

Hi Pete, for a portable set up, would 15m still be recommended with then water trap and regulator at the gun end?
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 Год назад
Hi Mark, if it is a portable setup, say in a van or you could get away with less, it depends on the temperature where the exit hoses are, the cooler the better as it will turn the condensation to water quicker. Certainly try for 6 mts or so, even if it's just curled up, then just blast it through every now and the to remove any moisture in there, you want a good water trap as far away hose length wise from the compressor. Clean air is more important than a good gun
