I Mostly just try to treat my space. Because I remember back in the day hearing it was taboo to mix on Headphones. But then I’ve heard more recently that really, you just gotta know your headphones, like where they’re biased and hopefully not biased.

14:20 It would be better to zoom in on the SPL axis (top left + button). Then you will see the actual differences.

Great video, and great to have you back, I Love and missed echo sound works! I’ve done a similar set up, above my vinyl tile floors I’m using a grip of interlocking gym floor mats, and then carpet area rugs over them. This also makes it way more comfortable to stand on, and/or sit or even lay down on the floor, more homey n cozy too. I’ve kinda been trying to get more of the room within a room idea, without actually doing that entirely. Did you do anything to the ceilings, any clouds or anything?

Thanks! If you get any ideas about the room in a room without doing that 100 let me know, I would like to do it too haha. I did end up putting up a ceiling cloud.

Great video! Although based off my findings having the monitors closer to the wall makes the SBIR (speaker boundary interference) more manageable to treat as it bring the peak/null it creates higher up the frequency spectrum.

That's if you have too small of a room to bring the speakers away from the front wall by actual meters

Keep in mind that the long low frequency decay is caused by the ported design of the speakers as well. If you like short decay times across the spectrum get some closed speakers

I'm curious to know how your imaging is with that setup given that you're not situated between symmetrical parallel walls. A good tip for solving that 50-ish hz room mode is to play the tone and walk around the room to find the area with the highest intensity and treat the space with deeper or tuned traps.

That is a great idea! I guess I could use the SPL meter while playing the tone too to see where it’s loudest. Thanks for the tip! The imaging is pretty good. Might take a little getting used to as it’s different than I’m accustomed to

I'm assuming the Genelecs you have come with the GLM room correction software as well, would be curious to see what that does in addition to the treatment that you installed

Yeah in hind sight I should have ran the GLM room correction and then for the final test in REW shown what that plus the treatment does

Hey that's super interesting man! But I personally dial in the sounds / mix on my headphones and later check the end result in my untreated room to see (or rather hear) if it still sounds solid. Kinda like the car test except I don't have one.😂 But would you say a well treated room is better than solid headphones? Or is it just more convenient to be without headphones?

I mean I’ve seen skrillex make way better mixes than I’m physically capable of so on ear buds or laptop speakers so it definitely depends on the user and your ear! I like monitors more than head phones personally and to get the full benefit of monitors you need treatment

Soundcard calibration is turn up the input gain or output volume?

It depends how you’re running your sound card back into the signal

Thanks for response. I use left output loop back into left input. I have 2 choice to increase the volume which is either through input gain or output volume. Not sure I doing correctly. But it did went up if I turn either of them

Is there a reason you use the Sonarworks mic but REW isntead of their proprietary software that is actually REALLY good.... ?

Yeah! I use to use sonarworks but my current monitors have a built in feature like sonarworks that I like more. I track a lot of live instruments and vocals in my room for sound sets, sample packs and vsts. I need my space to be somewhat treated. That’s why I’m using REW. So usually I’ll treat my room and then once i have that to where I want it, then I run something like sonarworks or what comes with my monitors etc

I don't know if there's a studio in the world with a response of + - 3 db. That's just not realistic. + - 10 db would be great and far better than most rooms.

Yeah realistically for just hanging panels and doing wall treatments +-10dB is a great thing to aim for. I have been in studios that were +-3dB from the low mids up and about +- 5dB in the lows. Those were rooms that were built to be a studio from the ground up. Floating floors, monitors installed in the wall etc etc.
