You can build your own home (a home that will stand for hundreds of years) for about $150,000. Serene Branson gives a tour of a Cal-Earth home. Official Site: losangeles.cbslocal.com/ RU-vid: / cbsla Twitter: / cbsla Facebook: / cbsla
An Egyptian architect pioneered this concept of "if ur poor build with what's under ur feet", he build an entire town for the poor out of Adobe, his name was Hassan Fathi
I was taught this process by Nadar himself, many years ago while working along side the Monks from the Holy Resurrection Monastery in Newberry Springs, CA... ...He was an amazing man with Great Vision for the people. Definitely recommend that anyone having the opportunity to go for a visit and tour of the Cal-Earth Institute, Please Do So... You will definitely be glad you went.
Just FYI, Cal Earth Institute teaches you to build "superadobe" structures, not "adobe". It's important to distinguish the two as they're quite different from each other. Superadobe is constructed using sandbags filled with earth and stacked upon each other using barbed wire to "bind" the layers together; whereas adobe is a sun-baked earth block and does NOT use sandbags or barbed wire.
Duh, it will be signed into legislature by democrats at the expense of taxpayers. And of course Democratic donors will get kickbacks of $100,000 per house. Are you from the U.S.? Not too observant are ya?
@@joeguzman3558 the irony of your comment is priceless. the 150k they talked about is the price of hiring people to build you a MANSION in this style. rummage some trash and build it yourself with only your own labour if you can.
Aren't the homes in the video cob homes? And yeah I like any home that's efficient, eco and environmental friendly. Cob homes will damn near last for all eternity, LOL!
Penelope416 cob is more artistically free-handed, meaning you can literally mold it to be as personal and individualized as you want. :) Some people even built their cob houses to be astronomically receptive, so they can see certain solar eclipses, at parts of the year. Get the book "The Hand-Sculpted House" to get what I mean. Dome houses are like that too in a way, but you have to follow certain design codes in order to achieve a dome shape.
That awkward moment humans (who always strive to be smarter than nature) realise their ancestors had it right centuries ago, and they should go back to nature. Several nonwestern(ised) places have been building similarly (with natural sources, mud, soil, clay, etc) for very long now. This is not news.
He said they would be safe from "the next flood". LOL I think he got a little carried away with his sales pitch. I am also not so sure about a direct hit tornado. With that said, it does seem to be a very good product.
Dante Planeta Why can't you build a dome in the woods. I lived most of my life in the desert. I got tired of water rationing. Now I live in a log cabin in the forest.
Air create has the science to back-up high wind velocity. I'm not sure about these bags? We have domes here in Texas, but then again, we deal with Highwind velocity that are like land hurricanes, tornadoes, torrential rain and now our latest earthquakes. With the air create domes, they are fire and insect proof. Once again there is data to back this up, but not sure about these bags?
I have definitely seen a documentary about the dome homes withstanding incredible stressor tests. Its acurate to say they are way better than the box shaped ones we all live in. Get into research mode and let us know what you find!
Patricia Davidson What tornado zone state do you live in? The homes featured are in California. You can’t get a trailer in a trailer park for less than $150k here.
i think that it will be great for the island of Puerto Rico. instead of building houses again , it could be a great solution to housing and living conditions 😃
+Pat Emilio (Illogic Buster) You cannot only look at the monetary cost; you need to appreciate the little cost that this building means to the environment... This is not about saving a buck; it is part of saving our environment...
FANTASTIC construction. These are the future house to respect nature Planet and human. Here in ITALY se have just these types of house. Is right to return to the origin in everything. To respect people, animals and nature. We have destroyed life and planet in name of progress. Progress?? No....but Arrogance. Many italian architecht are building by sacred geometric like Ancien knowledge population. Romans Egyptians ecc. Ciao and hip urra' to Domes.😊😊😍😍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌❤❤💋
Would like to know how they went from the trashy looking dome with flying bag material to the nicely finished 2000 sq ft place.... hmmmm. Do all those homes NOT have a foundation? Or was it just a teaching sample they showed? "reporters" should never report on anything related to science or that they don't have firsthand knowledge of.
wish they actually told you how You can buy your own adobe house....like the title stated, yet they didn't cover. I understand you can buy plans....but who builds it? Looking for a southern California adobe builder FYI. let me know if you know someone.
I'm sorry to say but the news reporting is very misleading. At Cal Earth Institute, it's a non-profit school where they hold workshops/classes on how to build superadobe/earthbag structures and they build them on-site on their Hesperia campus with the students. The Cal Earth Institute is NOT a for-profit developer/contractor who will "build you a house for $150,000", as the title/description of the segment implies. However, you can contact the Cal Earth Institute and probably ask if they can recommend a teacher or alumni who would be able to build your very own superadobe house. Another option would be to take a class at Cal Earth and learn how to build one yourself, that would save a lot of money if you don't mind the self-labor.
LOL, I love how they called people primitive (for building earth homes) and now when the western world is starting to do it all of a sudden It's smart, it will help/benefit the environment "you are a better person". -_-
