From the Cradle to the Grave episode 1 Documentary about the dilemma facing homeless families, unsatisfactory bed and breakfast accomodation and how landlords exploit the situation.
The only thing that’s changed is illegal migrants being put to the top of the list staying anywhere from average to luxury hotels. Some trashing the place, some causing a stink because the FREE meals they are provided by the hotels are not to their taste. I’ll leave it there…
Always that one person spouting nonsense and crying about ‘illegal immigrants’ living the high life in the best hotels. Dry your tears and stop believing everything the right wing spouts 🙄
Nothing ever changes in the end does it. We've come full circle after fifteen years of Tory rule, we're right back to this as normal again. But now it's even worse.we have people living from food banks, and epidemic of drug use that dwarves the heroin of the 80s and a social attitude that would make Thatcher proud. Everyone looking over each others shoulder to see if they're getting something, and a total denial of any social problems before the wave of migration at the turn of the century. Look how people are living then, I remember it! No-one had migration to blame then🤷 it's government serving their own greed that's the problem.
Exactly. This the type of film I'd show ppl who think the 70s were better. Have you watched Johnny go home from same uploader? Homeless London boys at risk to paedo gangs, just like in last 20 years it's been girls at risk. The boys predators were all upper class British established.
@@Cloughjordan23 The 70s were better in many ways but maybe that depended on where you lived. I remember a great community spirit where everyone looked out for each other, local shopkeepers who knew everyone by name and nobody going hungry even if we didn't have much with neighbours taking meals to the less fortunate. The 80s is where it started going downhill IMO with Thatcher telling everyone to get on their bikes to find a job as unemployment reached record levels, the beginning of breaking up families and increasing homelessness as people headed for the big cities, especially London.
true. i would support a law that made it compulsory for women do take pill unless they have a certain amount of money, a safe and secure home prefably a secured tenancy (social housing tenancy) or bought their own and are married, etc, etc. call it the mandatory pill taking for chicks Act.!
Married? You do realise marriage doesn’t guarantee a husband who isn’t lazy or adds to a woman’s issues. I agree though that to protect unborn children women should be on some form of contraception until they meet the threshold to ensure a safe environment for their kids without being fully reliant on the state. And if someone does have a child outside these parameters then it should be adopted out to people who can’t have their own kids. Sounds harsh but I just think it’s selfish having kids just because *you* want them then spending your entire life leaching off the state and having countless kids whilst providing quality care to none of them. It’s a pattern I saw generations repeat whilst working for a government welfare department. The kids are frequently dirty and hyper and you see them grow into young adults and just repeat that same pattern. It’s an epidemic and tell me those kids wouldn’t have had a better future if not only were they wanted but they were *also* supported properly to meet their potential to have a better life than their parents.
Do you not think we are being controlled enough, you will never be able to make any woman take the pill, they tried to make everyone have the clot shot and that didn't happen.
Omg I know Hilary… havnt seen her for years and years she was a wonderful mum andn last time I saw her she had a flat.. amazing woman I had my work experience with her at a shop she ran in borehamwood. She was top class. I hope she is doing well ❤️
I left school in 1985, seems like yesterday but it’s millions of years ago at the same time. Nothing has improved at all, life on this dimension is hellish for so many.
Lola, why did you have another baby when you're living in a room with a toddler? Where's the father buggered off to? I'm only halfway through so I might find out

i bet she never did find out.. mandatory pill for these types of women.
prbsnoop1974. Totally agree, they are all pretty good at having kids they can't afford, doubtlessly the males that got them pregnant in the first place, are over the hills and far, away, doubtlessly impregnating other women, and who is left to financially support these hapless people. Yeah of course, the good old taxpayers.
Reminds me of that song by the Specials:- 🎶🎵”You’ve done too much, much too young, now you’re sitting washing nappies when you could be having fun with me..🎵🎶
Wow that toaster right up the the bed is a fire waiting to happen. Kids trying to be grownups. Nice to know over 34 years its discusting people are still living like this in 2024
Poor little girl 😢 who threatens to smack a baby that small she doesn’t even know what she’s doing wrong, maybe she wouldn’t eat because your swinging her around by her limps and trying to force her down, I wouldn’t eat for you neither, and I don’t care how stressed she is with the small environment her baby didn’t ask to be born
This was 40 years ago, the mother is young and utterly clueless. She's essentially homeless and seems to have NO idea how to handle a toddler. It's heartbreaking for the baby, back then there was no internet to help get information either, I'm the same age as the baby here and I remember it wasn't uncommon to hear people speak this way when I was very little.
@@emilygilbeyfulthe shocking thing is there’s too many people still treat their children like that in this day and age. Until recently I worked in a public facing government department and it’s so sad to see kids having kids. Charlene’s mom is likely depressed as she said she finds it hard to motivate herself and her poor little girl is suffering as a result. It’s possible neither have bonded to each other. Fact Charlene isn’t even talking yet is probably because she never got stimulated as a baby 😢
Nothing has changed.people are still unemployed, but machines can now do jobs better and faster than a human. 100years time with development of AI no-one will work and the government with have to pay everyone a universal living wage. There is much fear that the government is closing down the cash based benefit system but I think welfare system will still exist in some way in the future as there will be no need to work because of machines and computers running everthing.
The one in the white skirt is very frustrated with her toddler. She’s quite rough with her& I’m wondering how she’s fared now, assuming she was approximately aged 3 in 1985, therefore she would be about 42 now.
It so annoys me living in one room and still gets pregnant with another one that’s just pure selfishness thought it get her a flat also kids have kids and expect int tax payer to fund them it’s kids i feel sorry for
This is so interesting but so sad at the same time. This film only seemed like yesterday. I think nothing much has changed even though this was made almost four decades ago. We hope the situation will improve and people live better lives.
the poverty in the uk just gets worse and worse! That's what you get for having 1% of the population controlling 80% of the wealth, the access to education and means of production. £140 per week for a grotty little room with no bathroom? at 2024 that almost £530 per week..! WHAT?!
Homes going empty, yet the council are paying out £120 a week for 1bedroom. in 1985. Who is making money out of this ??? Has anything changed since Kathy Come Home? in 2024 nothing has changed. Look at the owners, there is a common thread there. Greedy money grubbers, for one.
Having watched documentaries like this here on our ABC in Australia during the ‘80’s, I became aware of the social issues surrounding people my own age. Due to this, I viewed Thatcher’s Britain during the 1980’s as extremely harsh & unfair. However, the music coming out of England was creative & mind-blowing! Pop, Punk, Synth-pop, New-Wave, New Romantics, Ska, etc. I’ve since met many Poms who have migrated here to Australia, who were in their teens/early 20’s during the ‘80’s & they never had to deal with issues like this, because they had parents, education & homes, etc. Even now, I feel sorry for these young, vulnerable parents and wonder how their life panned out. 😢
Felt bad for them! I felt sorry for Charlene no wonder she didn’t want to eat the way her mum was swinging her about, threatening to smack a baby who’s to small to know what she’s even doing wrong is bang out
@@DieselDawg.She's 41 now but it still killed me to see how she man handled a toddler, cooped up in a bedsit with the Mum and Dad knocking each other about. 😢
I have no idea r these people from other countries looking for handouts that country can’t take care of . And having babies when living in conditions like this is just plain stupid.
I don't care what situation your in, there's no excuse to beat up your wife. The woman mentioned that her and the husband fight....he hits her and she fights back. She presented it as if they both fight. That is DV on the man's part, because the balance of power is unequal.
