good stuff... i like that you turn off the wifi during sleep.. i no longer sleep near any electronics and it has improved my sleep cycle.. no joke. My chiropractor suggested the idea and to my surprise, it worked.
I think you've sold me on the Sanus skeleton rack.. I'm getting ready to start putting the room together - the contractors have almost finished building my dedicated theater! Walls are going up literally right now (removable sound isolation panels on all four walls :) ), only leaving the sound isolating ceiling tiles, flat black ceiling paint, dark color flat wall paint, 6 Hue recessed lights, and installing the grey carpet. And when they're done, I'll finally get to mounting the projector, installing the in-ceiling Atmos speakers, hanging the screen (135"), and placing the rest of the speakers in the room. All my components will be behind the screen in the utility room. Denon AVR 6500 Apple TV 4K Epson 5050UB Ubiquiti gigabit managed switch Linksys MX10 Mesh system and soon, the PS5 ;) Looking at various UPS units. Setup is 7.2.4: Klipsch RP504C, 2x R820F, 4x R51M, and 4 CDT5650 CII w/2 of their R120SW (for now, will probably go SVS once everything gets settled, couldn't pass up a pair of 120SW for $500) I suppose I'll have to make a video or something :-p
G’day Tony, John from Melbourne here m8. You’re clearly an IT wiz guy, love your IT set up. Will take a look at the Linksys access points to start with cos the routers we’re using suck.
Well Done.... Fantastic Setup.... If your able to do a tutorial on how you set all the rack up with the streaming aspects.... I'm in process of setting up similar as I have a Nas also My starting point is with a SONY VPL-VW11000ES PROJECTOR.... 🤜😊🤛
Ned Kulic what would you like to know? I am working on a plex server video as I’ve had a lot of people request that. It does involve questionable methods of acquiring content which is why I’ve held off.
great setup and video. Thanks! Rookie question here, are most folks running all their apple TVs and other media devices in the server rack and not by the TVs then? Just not sure how to control the apple tv in a separate room from my TV? Some sort of receiver? And any recommendations for residential POE lighting companies to do all my lights with POE? Most of the companies I've reached out to or researched seem to be mostly into commercial applications.
Dreams home 😍.. What's the bandwidth and files transferring speed form Nas to ur pc? Please talk more about ur home networking and ur tips about setting up one... Thanks for the amazing content
I'm considering something like the Sysracks 15U 35 Inch Depth Server Rack Cabinet Enclosure for my AV rack. I'm running a Cisco 48 port switch, the newer Synology DS1821+, as well as a small form factor PC for my Plex server and another small form factor PC for a dedicated Minecraft server. I'm not interested in housing my Pioneer Elite receiver, but it frightens me a little putting all those other components in a small enclosure, even with fans, especially the Synology with 8 drives at 10 TB each. Even a few degrees can severely impact the lifespan of those HGST drives, as good as they are. Have you measured the temperature within to make sure you're not killing your components?
Heya, that videos a little old. I’ve gone a full rack now with active cooling + I have aircon dedicated in the closet to keep everything nice and cool 😎
Are you still using the Apple TV for your home theater? It doesn’t support audio pass through for Plex. Unless they’ve changed it. I went through this whole ordeal my self and ended up getting the NVidia shield as it’s the only streaming device that does full pass through I believe
Yes it does but my setup has changed a lot since Ghirardelli video :) EDIT: sorry yes I re-read what you mentioned and yes it only passes 7.1 through the app on ATV - there are other apps on ATV which do pass Atmos through though, just not PLEX ;)
4:22 if you unload SS cam snapshots to the cloud each night... how are they protected from theft? Lets say burgular breaks in and steal or damage your box - nothing is sent to cloud = no footage. Wouldn't be batter to implement 2 layer protection? Mesh rack to prevent (slow down) access to drives and instant snapshot to cloud trigger my motion?
quick Newbie question. will the AV receiver decode the audio (Atmos or 5.1) from the MKV file (or other video formats) from your Apple TV to your AV amp to your Projector and speakers? so the flow would be Media server (Plex) to ATV to AV Amp to Projectors and speakers? correct? also do you use the toslink from the apple TV to the AV Amp for the sound? and video over HDMI?
Hi there, first of all, PLEX can't do Atmos. It can decode TRUEHD which is a layer very close to ATMOS (there are technical reasons) and yes, if your MKV has 7.1, it will decode TRUEHD, as well as your Reciever needs to be able to do it. And yes you are correect with the setup, and no I use HDMI for my input/output. It all works quite well, and I get amazing ATMOS from Netflix even though it is slightly compressed :)
how did you get your receiver to say apple tv? i have a Pioneer Elite SC LX901 11.2 ch. when i watch movies it just volume not dolby atmos or anything only way i know what the audio is is by pushing display on the 4k blu ray remote while watching a movie.
all those cameras should be connected to a NVR with POE .... as you have it ... ALL of that data is a massive load on the network especially if its 4k res .... connected to an NVR takes the load off of the network and is handled directly by the NVR which can then be backed up to the SYNOLOGY or seen on video display (whatever that is) Also Synology is charging a per camera fee if Im not mistaken with more than 2 cameras ($50 PER CAMERA !!!! ) no wonder why you fail to mention this .,... NVR eliminates that fee Just my 2cents
I would be interested in a video on what it is running on, basics of setting it up, and how you use it to authenticate devices through your house. I know very little about setting up a RADIUS server and even littler about the ups and downs of running one in your house. PS i just found your channel and feel like I am going to be watching a lot of it. Where are you from?
you want to put all those ethernet cable behind your rack into a wall plate? that's ton of wall plates. but i'm curious how would it look. please make a video on that. Thanks 😄😄.
Sure do :) Ironically, I'm almost ready to do it. I'm actually thinking to do one better an use a cat6 passthrough patch panel and mount into the wall - so no actual cabling required and I can then have the ability to move my rack a bit more and use longer cat6 patch leads :D
I have a Sony DN840 Receiver 7.2 that I would like to add a power amp to so that I can add atmos with two Sub woofers. Can this be done or should I sell the Sony And buy a 9.2 Receiver.
@@BuildMontage thanks for getting back to me. I’m looking at the Onkyo TX-RZ50 to run the surrounds and two or more atmos, and Emotiva BasX A5 to run the two Subs and the front right and left and center speakers.
How much time and money have you put into this. i'm halfway there myself looking to buy a syn really soon as my pc can't handle the trans coding anymore and stutters.
I’d have to check receipts tbh I lost count but there’s a bit of gear in there, like the receiver and amp plus the Apple TV and Mac mini, the switch and firewall plus the nas and the rack itself + the lighting and multi volt, it could be around 7-8k Australian Dollars. The Nas cost me 1500 without disks and then each disk was about 200 aud and I have 8. So around 3k just for the nas.
Build Montage so do you use shield for Atmos content? I just built a dedicated HTPC that will run JRiver for my theater but use Plex and Apple TV for whole house.
Hi, I can't remember the brand of HDMI but it's a high speed 18gbps cable which requires power as it spans over 10m from my home office to the theater, and the audio cables are 14AWG terminated with nakamichi banana plugs, however, I'm upgrading to wall plates and shielded cables in the cabinet when the lockdown is lifted and I get a contractor to plate them for me. I dont want to do it myself as there are electrical cables in the wall and I don't want to damage or electrocute myself trying to cut the dry wall.
Hola como estas te saludo desde Panama , muy intersante lo que tienes tu Net work , en realidad hay mucho para aprende y prgunto cual es el proposito de este sistema cual es beneficio ???, Gracias
Hello from Australia!! The benefits of this network is that we get high speed network and internet through out the whole house, especially with the smart devices, the Tesla Powerwall and fibre optic connection. It helps with the home theater as well when streaming content. Thanks for commenting
I havent made any more content around that. Its a pretty neat setup but is pretty expensive if I'm honest, for diminished returns on investment over just buying the NVR unit... I get full control over my footage though which is a bonus storing it on my NAS but the SYnology licenses were not cheap!
Yes 20 years in infrastructure. Do you also work in IT? I just upgraded from this to a bigger rack. You can check it out in one of my more recent vids ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N0yaQb34Qwk.html
Sure, what would you like to know? I was thinking to show an end to end config but it wasn't right for this video. I'll consider making one in the future, breaking down all of the components, configuration and cost. Thanks for commenting
Great video Tony, i love a good rack video! Would love to see a video on how you wired up the second AMP for the additional speakers (unless i already missed it being uploaded)
Hey there - ironically, that rack has been replaced! I am about to release the new video of the whole theater rebuild and this weekend will be about the rack build mostly... I should have my new amp for the subs in today, so I'll film it and include it in the setup video... you can check out a few of my later vids, it shows the upgrade and tear down of the rack too.
Awesome build! I imagine you build everything by yourself as you are working in IT. Also an awesome neighborhood, I can see you having a barbeque at your pool :). A question: how often do you use your home theater?
Thanks :) Australia is pool/BBQ country! We use the theatre almost daily in answer to your question. Totally worth building one, especially now being in lockdown.
@@BuildMontage Awesome. What are your thoughts on them and which do you have? I don't know anyone with them, but I found them online and they're on my shortlist because I think they meet my requirements of an IP camera with POE, RTSP and Google Assistant compatibility. Is that correct?
@@MichaelAnthonyLee I'm a huge fan of them. I even have them as a supplier for my side business now. I am using the RLC420 and the RLC410 with a wireless one as well which all work fantasticlly well. I am using them through my Synology NAS using the ONVIF protocol so I can store footage on the NAS instead of a separate NVR. I've had them for just on a year now and they haven't skipped a beat. Good luck with your purchase, I'd be interested to know feedback.
@@BuildMontage This is great and useful feedback. Love your setup. I'm going to look more closely into the Reolink lineup. I want to use them with voice control through Google Assistant, and like you want to record their feeds to a network server rather than a dedicated camera DVR.
@@MichaelAnthonyLee then certainly, if you don't want to use the Reolink NVR, your best bet is using these as they have the ONVIF protocol so whichever network camera feed application your decide to go with - if it supports ONVIF, you will be golden. Good luck with your setup - it sounds quite interesting.
You should just mount the patch bay to the wall. Get a shallow wall mounted 6u rack mount. You can use this for speaker terminations as well into a keystone patch bay. Then just make a custom snake from the patch bay on the wall to your rack. It also makes grounding the patch bay (I see you have shielded connectors) easier because it’s attached to the wall. And when and if you move, it’s easy to disconnect your rack and take it with you, and you leave a neat nicely terminated structured wire panel.
