I'm so proud of my young black brothers and sisters. I'm 74 yrs old and marched and demonstrated in the 600s for civil rights. Growing up in segregation we wanted to leave those coming behind us a better life. When I watch y'all I have tears in my eyes. Go out into the world, it's yours for the taking!
Congrats to the BOOM and entire JSU family on your invite to participate in the Tournament of Roses parade. I missed the announcement during the show. I will be watching. Luv Da BOOM !!!! 💙🐅💥
Watching the Sonic Boom of The South Videos and reading about how Dr. Little was at Jackson State University and how he was a member of the Sonic Boom of The South has inspired me a lot and for future Sonic Boom of The South Band members and the way how the Head J5 Drum Major assists Dr. Little direct the band that is the same thing that I want to do because all I have to do is put my mund to it and achieve my goal. And I really wish that I was on Homecoming Court when I was in High School but I never got it because I was to nervous to get it and the other students would make fun of me and while attending Jackson State University I hope that I get elected for Mister Freshman for Homecoming Court at Jackson State University.
Sonny (I think that is the Tiger that is currently in the position) doesn't have the halftime performances that Wavey Dave used to have. I don't know why. In a RU-vid video, there is a Jackson channel that featured when Jackson renamed a street as David "Wavey Dave" Chambers. That news station interviewed Dr. Dowell Taylor (former Director of Bands) who said that Dave was that rarity who could perform acrobatics (all those backhand flips, front multiple cartwheels, riding a unicycle), could dance very well; could do the drum major splits; and had the people-personality to interact with both kids and adults). That was why they decided to give him a feature at halftime. He was the JSU mascot for probably 16 years...long after grad school...before he lost his battle with kidney disease. He also formed the 1st baby tigers team - to dance at halftime - whenever his illness prevented him from performing. On TAPEMASTER channel on youtube, there are lots of old halftime show videos (showing both Boom and their opponent)...which feature Wavy Dave always having a spotlight feature performance with the band. I don't even know if many of the tiger mascots do the Wavey Dave run from the 50 yard line...straight into the goal post. When I attended JSU, it was a running theme for him to do that during the game timeouts...and for the male cheerleaders to carry Dave on the stretcher afterwards to an ambulance. He would "survive" and then appear in the crowds later shaking hands with people.😂 Dave was truly a legend.
