The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, in collaboration with Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., carried out a cleanup operation of homeless encampment at the Venice Beach Boardwalk on Friday, May 5, 2023. Sanitation workers were donned in white hazardous materials suits as part of the safety protocol for the cleanup. LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) was on site and provided homeless outreach during the cleanup operation.
In order to effectively coordinate the various departments involved in the cleanup operation of the homeless encampments, Los Angeles Councilwoman Traci Park's (11th District) Office has enlisted the assistance of a dedicated Homelessness and Housing Coordinator.
The operation was prompted by significant health and safety concerns for both the unhoused and the general public, as many of the unhoused individuals had been camping on the Venice boardwalk
There are two separate waste management teams with different roles working in collaboration. City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, wearing the yellow safety vests, and Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc., wearing the orange safety vests. The Clean Harbor team goes in first to sort through the garbage to identify, collect, and segregate the hazardous waste items such as batteries, urine, syringes, etc. Once they finish collecting the Hazardous Waste, Los Angeles Public Works sanitation workers take over and collect the remaining garbage.
To ensure the safety of all involved, Los Angeles Park Rangers and Los Angeles Police Officers were present at the site throughout the cleanup operation. This weekly cleanup activity takes place every Friday in Venice and is intended to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the area.
The City of Los Angeles has been actively addressing the issue of homelessness in the area, and the Venice Beach clean-up is just one part of their ongoing efforts. The clean-up not only helps to improve public health and safety but also helps to restore the restrooms to their intended use.
It is important to note that these clean-ups are not a solution to the larger issue of homelessness. The City of Los Angeles continues to work on implementing long-term solutions to address the root causes of homelessness and provide resources to those in need.
Overall, the clean-up of homeless encampments at Venice Beach is an important step in improving public health and safety, and providing much-needed resources and support to the unhoused individuals in the area. The City of Los Angeles remains committed to addressing the issue of homelessness in the area, and will continue to work towards long-term solutions.

OK it’s not like these people are camping at Yosemite national park. Many of these people are delusional and extremely dangerous. Do you want a solution? Make it illegal to camp in the city limits. If they violate they get arrested but instead of sending them to regular jail , give them a mandatory 90 day sentence and send them to special facilities with drug treatment, and mental health resources. SOMEONE needs to step up here!

You're right. That's what addiction does to a person. The problem is this. Most people THINK they can't do it..they never really tried to stay clean. When people surround themselves with ENABLERS, they are going took just like what you see here. It's a form of selfishness. Drug Abuse will make a somewhat normal person turn into a selfish, envious, lying bastard who will step.over their dying relative for one more hit..one more..one last one..one more big one and ill.quit tomorrow, Promise!..yeah yeah yeah..I've noticed that when their Mothers pass away, they follow shortly afterwards. Many of the people you see here, HAVE families that they've been hustling money from for years and years..what about the family members who are fighting the good fight? They're busy holding down 2 jobs, raising good kids, etc. You don't see them You see the BUMS instead. THAT is what is so darn frustrating about this whole situation. Alot of them are already on State run Programs..they CHOOSE this lifestyle, yet they want you to pity them. I always say People don't want help. They want that 20 dollar bill you got stashed away for emergencies..theyll.throw away a friendship of over 20 years for that frigging Twenty

I don’t. My country, America, comes first. I don’t need to worry about what’s going on in other countries because that’s their country to take care of, not our job. And if you haven’t noticed, people do worry or are upset about what’s going on in our own “backyard”. I don’t know a lot of people who talks about crisis in other countries that’s more important to them. People in the U.S. go out of their way to help the people in need, from food, clothing and shelter even handing out money and most of those people in need, don’t want it or will take it and then rob from the people who have helped. Are you doing anything to help? I’ve volunteered to give free bags of food away to people in need, the lines are long it feels bad when we run out. We tell them, go to other places who can help. But then, it enables the people in need of food or clothing, to take advantage of others by getting too much free things and not going out there to find a job to try and be an upstanding citizen and to have a better life, especially if they have children. It seems like the Hollywood celebrities take care and donate more to other countries in need, never adopt babies from other countries to say, “See?! I’m a good person, I adopted a toddler from….” Choose a third world country. I just know that other countries don’t worry about us, they know that the U.S. is strong and can handle it.

I don't feel sorry for none of this people. My niece has been homeless for the past 5 yrs stuck on blues. We tried and tried to help her and she refused the help. I even came to the point we're i neglected my family cause i was spending more time on trying to help my niece out. And it was not fair for me to put my family through that. We use to allow her to come and shower and we would feed her but never gave her money. We stoped allowing her to come over and shower about a week ago cause she would spend up to 2 hours in the restroom and we found foil and pills on the floor after she left. And we have a 2 yr old in the house that will be 3yrs on 4th of July. What would happen if he picked that shit up? So we put a stop to her coming over. I've been clean for 23 yrs. I enjoy a beer here and there while i listen to oldies and clean/wash my car. People say "I'm afraid to die and go to hell" we are in hell. With all this drugs and mass shootings going on this days. We are living in hell 💯 y'all stay blessed and show your kids this videos and talk to them. Tell them this is what drugs do to you. Not only it effects them but also there loved ones 🙏

Thanks for sharing your story, Gato. The only motive is to feed that addiction - it's not your niece, but her addiction. One of my teachers says that when dealing with drug addiction (which is like a mental illness) and our family members to remember that we didn't cause it, we cannot control it, and we cannot cure it.

They would realize where they were going and often times would rather be there. 3 Meals a day. a bed, food, clothes, get cleaned up. Get their meds if need be. Often times detox the drugs in their system. We need to make jail the primary place to house these people who do this often, negligently. I don't know why it ever became a problem. They would be helped by not allowing that beach to be a drug trafficing zone, and an accepted place to camp and get wasted every single day. The cops KNOW what goes on there. They know who is getting high, who is dealing. Why don't they raid the damn place and arrest people who are breaking the law. Because of the politics of the leftists who run the city. And we see how well it is working here, and in NYC and San Francisco. It will not get better until grownups are in charge again.
