Homeless Man Faces Eviction From a Rusty Box Truck - You Won't Believe his Home

Joe built a home from a decaying old Avis box truck. Now he faces eviction from the landowner where the truck sits.
I have set up a gofundme for Joe
www.gofundme.com/f/help-joe-h...
#homeless #squatting #documentary
In a vacant lot in a small suburban town Joe found two old rusty box trucks. Over several years he made one of the trucks into a comfortable home for himself.
He built a facade for his house, put in some insulation, and found an old wood burning stove he uses for heat. Shortly before this video was filmed Joe received a notice to vacate, demanding that he leave the property he is living on.
A notice to vacate is the first step of the eviction process. Joe is awaiting a notice to appear in court, and hopes to be able to stay in the truck which he has turned into a home.
The town where he lives plans to build a public hiking trail in the area where Joe lives, so it is almost certain he will have to move. Hopefully he can stay through the winter, so he is not forced to live outside in the cold.
Joe has received a court date for mid November. It is uncertain how much time he will have at this point. I will update with new information as I have it.

I have set up a gofundme for Joe, if anyone is interested in helping hime out. gofund.me/a806e4d6 Update: 02-22-23 - The Sheriff removed Joe from the property about two weeks ago. He had been building a new camp in preparation for the eviction, but the sheriff saw it because it was too close to the old spot and had it destroyed. Joe has found another spot to lay his head for the time being, but it is nowhere near the level of comfort he had in the box truck. Update: 11-5-22 - Joe received his court date, which is about 2 weeks from now. He has started putting together a new spot if he has to move, but isn't certain exactly where he will go at this point. I will update again when I hear what happens at the court appearance.

He's bothering the land that isn't his. If this was his own land, that would be one thing, but it isn't. He has no legal right to be where he is, and never did. Taking / using land that isn't yours is something that doesn't sit well with this Native, nor many of us. We saw long ago what happens when you let people just take what they want and stay wherever they want. It never ends well for those who have the actual rights / ownership / stewardship of the land.

Beware that there is no base thought in your heart, saying, ‘The seventh year, the year of remission, is near,’ and your eye is hostile toward your poor brother, and you give him nothing; then he may cry to the LORD against you, and it will be a sin in you. You shall generously give to him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in all your undertakings. We all have stories and absolutely none of us are even close to perfect, Life has its way of showing every single person a "different" type of reality, in the end we are all of the same energy and all of us want the same thing. A peace of Mind and Spirit, A place we can call Home. At the end of the day that's what we have Family, Friends, A Purpose, And A Home. This man is harmless to "that particular" community and has been living there for a very long time. I was watching this and I was like why does Joe look so familiar and as I'm watching the video I'm like oh that's my home town! I lived for close to 40 years Joe is a nice guy who never bothered anyone I always saw him by Kennedy's singing and asking for change he was never disrespectful and always seemed to have a smile on his face!

It’s pretty damn rotten that some local kids vandalize Joe’s home. Even though he doesn’t own the land he lives on, he’s not trashing the place and The guy clearly doesn’t bother anyone. So why is he being evicted?

It is a shame in a country like the US that sick, elderly, actually anybody can fall into Homelessness, I have a decent Apartment in a small town, some Property Management group bought my complex, raised Rent from $729.00 per month to $1450.00 per month, I live on $1345.00 per month, been here for five years, now, I cannot meet their rent, I have to leave with nowhere to go, yes, it's a shame, I am 71 years old...

It is a shame, and better solutions are needed but we have to have the people be the people in office or at least make the ones there spend our states money where the people of the state wish it to go. They have shown an inability to do it without supervision and a lack of interest in our well being as people and communities. We are able but not without standing together state for state and some of us would even travel to lend support if done by the rules. Smarter not harder.

Hi this is the first time I've seen a video from this channel and I'm very impressed I've been on the streets here in Denver since 2015 voluntarily because I choose to be a drug addict and I choose not to better myself I guess doesn't make me a bad person I work for my money I don't like to beg people then I don't like handouts however I will humble myself and accept help a lot of times and it's just nice to see someone shedding light on the homeless situation from a different angle and showing that you know we're human too and we're not all bad people that are out here anyway shout out good video keep it up and thank you

The sad reality is that the property that he is on is not his own, so legally, he has no case. I wish the best for Joe, I hope he can find his place, especially if it turns out to be that one. Seems like he is doing a service as well, helping recycle trash and helping reduce the amount that the city would have to haul away as well. 100 years ago, no one have said anything, these days now, everything has to accounted for and taxed, Joe wont escape that.
