Homeless Man's Dreams Crushed Unless Someone Helps

Anthony is homeless in Manchester, New Hampshire. He's disabled and an addict. Anthony was in prison for close to ten years, and when he got out, life had changed so much that he relapsed.
Anthony has social anxiety, which may be a result of so many years of incarceration. Anthony can get a job, but with his disability, maintaining employment is a challenge.
Anthony has dreams. He tells us how he wants to get a trucking license to drive long halls. He believes this type of work he can maintain with his didablity. You can see his passion as Anthony shares his desire for a better life., but it's heartbreaking to know that unless someone helps Anthony achieve his goals, they probably will never happen.
This is the sad reality of homelessness. So many people just need a little help and support to get off the streets and sustain a normal life, but the resources for support are not there to help someone like Anthony.
This is where you come in. We all must take tangible actions to prevent and solve homelessness in our communities. It has never been more important to get politically active, and local nonprofits are overwhelmed and desperately need support.
I did follow up with Anthony about the GoFundMe he believes he set up. Anthony does not have a bank account to set up a GoFundMe, and while he did add some information on the internet, he did not create an account he can get money from. It's one of the many things about GoFundMe campaigns I hate. Desperate people like Anthony are given false hope.

About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
This isn’t just talk. Our groundbreaking educational content reaches millions of people every month. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about homelessness through innovative storytelling, news, and advocacy. Since our launch in 2008, Invisible People has become a pioneer and trusted resource for inspiring action and raising awareness in support of advocacy, policy change and thoughtful dialogue around poverty in North America and the United Kingdom.

Those individuals who can help the impoverished and homeless the Most (by far, by far indeed) are the super wealthy billionaire Oligarchs world wide who probably don't help or care at all. So therefore, the solution is the forced transfer of wealth away from the top 1,or, 2, or 3% towards the bottom 90%, with the great majority of wealth transfer going to the bottom 10% or bottom 5%. Why pick upon the super rich ?? Because that is where the large majority of wealth has been allowed to accumulate. That is simply where the money is. They asked the bank robber Willie Sutton why did he rob banks ? His answer : Because that's where the money is. This is the one and only justification for stealing : stealing from the super rich to give to the super poor. Also known as Robin Hood Ethics.

@CuttyKitty1 6 месяцев назад
@@kommisar. Take it from a psychologist: social anxiety can be incredibly disabling - i.e. it can interfere significantly with everyday tasks, on both professional and personal lvel. Social anxiety occurs in many psychological disorders including of course the Social Anxiety Disorder. And in terms of your second point: how can you make an assessment of whether or no tthis guy pushed himself to achieve those goals? Do you think it is rational to make a judgment based on a single video clip? And even if it is just ambitions, everyone needs to start somewhere. A person who doesn't have any ambitions sure ain't gonna get far. Don't try to be too smart about it, you know just as little about this guy as everybody else.
@kommisar.
@kommisar. 6 месяцев назад
@@CuttyKitty1 Just because something is extremely difficult to deal with doesn't qualify it as a disability. A fear or even a mental illness isn't a disability. If something is extremely difficult but you can still physically do it, it's not a disability. For example, I have a fear of heights. That doesn't make me disabled though just because I won't become a good mountain climber. Not having a leg, on the other hand, is a disability. Being tone deaf isn't a disability because that can be overcome, but being LITERALLY deaf is a disability because no matter how much you try, you will never be able to hear. Some person being nervous around people isn't a disability. It just means they have no social skills and have to learn how to and practice talking to people. I also do not care if you are a psychologist or not. That is an appeal to authority, and in this case the authorities have normalized common problems and glorified them into disabilities so people can collect money from the government, including you. Millions of healthy, perfectly normal people, including this man, are now claiming to be disabled, all so they can either collect money from the government or sympathy points from society. Speaking of whom, I know this guy has not pushed himself much to achieve those goals because he is in his 50's (or possibly 40's if his lifestyle has aged him faster) and sitting here talking about how he refuses to life in a shelter because he doesn't want to live with other people. It's clear he's still using, or at the VERY least struggling with addiction (as in barely maintaining sobriety). How are you in your 50's and claiming your "social anxiety" is making it impossible for you to maintain a job and home? I genuinely hope he becomes self-reliant and all that, but let's call a spade a spade. The sad part is you opened by telling me you're a psychologist, and yet you can't properly assess this man's situation. You're not even telling me I'm jumping to conclusions. What you're actually doing is being soft on him out of pity. "I can assure you, social anxiety CAN be very disabling, so how do you know he's not trying very hard?" That's not some objective assessment; that's you making excuses for him.
@CuttyKitty1
@CuttyKitty1 6 месяцев назад
@@kommisar. You cannot assess whether or not this person has a disability from a video clip. You are making an assumption, and labeling others as either disabled or not disabled when you do not have enough information is dangerous. You should not do that. There is no way that we are going to come between anyone and their money. We occasionally will run a GoFundMe, but the rule is the person has to be able to create the GoFundMe themselves and have a bank account. If you Google, GoFundMe and Philadelphia and homelessness, you will find that people are in prison for a con. Besides being a middleman never working out there’s also issues like what happened in Philadelphia I also do not have the resources to be a bank for people. I cannot fly into New Hampshire from time to time to give him the hundred dollars or $20 that people donate. It’s also not practical or realistic to set up GoFundMe for each person we interview. There was a nonprofit that actually did that. The good white people raised a lot of money, and the older Black people did not. Feelings were hurt. They had to stop doing it and close the website. Have you ever come between somebody’s money? a friend may be a family member? It never ever works out well. The number one thing people asked for on this channel and our other social media channels is to start GoFundMe for people. it’s awesome that we inspired people to want to take action but the real reality is there are tens of thousands of homeless people all over this country that need help setting up individual fundraisers online does nothing to prevent or solve homelessness, and to be frank, it would require a full-time staff to be able to handle the logistics. A GoFundMe makes the donor feel better than it helps the homeless person which is why people want it I get that there’s nothing wrong with feeling good for giving I go out and I hand out socks often. We recommend strongly that people get involved in their own community and help prevent and solve homelessness right where they are. That is the best solution for everyone.

We know this from various studies on the subject. Also, if Anthony just happens to see the comments from this video, how do you suppose he may feel knowing that someone heard his story and may be thinking about him or praying for him? For those who take a more spiritual/religious view, they would point to our interconnectedness because we are all from the same source and by praying or meditating, they are having an effect energetically or requesting intercession through God, depending on spiritual/religious belief. He's on the right path. If he has 1) a driver's license and 2) a working car, he can Doordash and should be able to make $50-$100 a day, after gas and tax. You can cash-out same day too.

He is on the right pass. However, he needs help. Alone and without resources he won’t be able to make it happen and I think what’s so important about Anthony’s story he’s just one of 1 million Americans who are out on the streets who just need a little bit of support to get out of homelessness.

If I could take in a homeless person, long enough for them to reestablish their ID and find a job, to get a place of their own, without relapses or getting in trouble with the law, I would do it. I'm also disabled, so money is an issue for me, too. I can relate with social anxiety and addiction (2 decades on opioid pain meds, but no abuse issues). I really hate to see homeless people in our country, when there's people doing these reality shows, where they flaunt their money like they haven't a clue to its actual value. $20 to a homeless person could be several days worth of food, where that twenty to one of these Real Housewives is a tip for the doorman or valet!

Well, I hope he betters his situation, although I have to say , that his situation shows me that I don't really understand how the human mind works sometimes. Driving a big truck to me, for example, would provoke a lot of anxiety to me. One has to be very responsible with that, and also, to me, I think driving itself seems like it can have a social element. But that said, I hope does it, if that's what he wants. He understands it in a different way than I do, but then again I guess I am kind of different anyway

Sounds like he is suffering from undiagnosed ADHD & Autism, and has been his whole life, and just not realised it. Instead he has become a drug addict and spent a long time in prison, which unfortunately is a path many undiagnosed and diagnosed ADHD/Autism end up finding themselves on. We need to do better at looking after the people that are traditionally seen as at the bottom of society. These people need help and assistance and as a society we are just not providing that, instead we are demonizing these people and forcing them to live a horrible life on the streets. We need more empathy.

If he has a car to live in he could still take the course. I wonder if he could get some type of funding like a student loan or help at a job centre. I've even heard of some trucking schools that will train drivers then take payments from their wages after they are hired for the training. I wonder if someone could help him find resources like that?

His grammar is good. I know where he could get employment paying $1200 to $1500 a month at a call center in Panama. May not sound like much but Average Income in Panama is $450 a month and a 2 bed/1 bath house typically rents for under $200. Plus National Health Insurance included paying 100% As for the drug history, credit history and prison except for human or drug trafficking it all gets left behind. Bad part is the airfare and return with enough money to last 3 months.

He could start his driving career by delivering pizza. Just trim the beard, wash your clothes, and find a way to take showers. Start your idea by taking small steps. I wash and rinse my clothes in a 5 gallon bucket, liquid detergent and a new toilet plunger. Then I plunge them with fresh water in the pail. Put on a few hangers to dry. A complete laundry system for about 30 dollars. I leave them soak in the detergent water for about 8 hours or overnight. This has cut my bills (water, electric) by 33 dollars a month. Around 400 dollars a year. Maybe he could take showers at his kids house.
