Homeless Tent City Coming To Your Neighborhood? Can Ken Sim Solve Vancouver DTES/ Chinatown Crisis?

Ken Sim wants to help solve the crisis in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and Chinatown. There is increased homelessness, crime, drug addiction, mental illness, vandalism and random violence. Ken Sim is one of the Mayoral Candidates For Vancouver Election in 2022.
In recent months, guns have been confiscated in the tent city on East Hastings Street. After the deadline to dismantle the tents had passed, they are still there. The tents and the homeless people are not moving anytime soon.
Three innocent people have been attacked in Chinatown in recent months.
There needs to be action to help the homeless people. There needs to be action to safeguard everyone in the city.
West coast cities such as San Francisco, Portland and Seattle have seen their cities deteriorate. The fear is that this situation will spread into your neighborhood, as it has in a lot of cities in Canada and the United States.
I endorse Ken Sim's to be the Mayor of the city of Vancouver. He is the leader of the ABC Vancouver Party (A Better City). He wants to have a better city for everyone. I met him recently at a rally on the Eastside of Vancouver.
Check out my video to see what he stands for. If you feel he is the right person to be Mayor of Vancouver, please get out and vote. We need to take action now before the situation gets worse.

I saw a recent video of San Fran Chinatown. It looked really good. A few weeks ago, a group of Vancouver people went to San Fran Chinatown to learn how to improve our Chinatown. There was a bit of coverage in our local news about how well San Fran Chinatown is doing. You're saying it's worse in San Fran now compared to Vancouver? Did San Fran set up some shelters to put the homeless people in, away from the Downtown and Chinatown? I used to go to San Fran for dragonboat competitions. Last time was in 2010. One of my favorite places to visit. Thanks for checking out my video.

@@DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV I would say that the Chinatown area is still better off than in other parts of the city in San Francisco, such as the Tenderloin and some other districts. There is a growing problem, however, of crimes happening to Asians such as petty thefts and more serious. attacks. There is a growing sense that the criminal friendly laws here are to blame. You can literally steal up to $999 and the police won't arrest you, or if they do, you won't get prosecuted. Larger companies like Walgreens are systematically closing their stores in the city due to daily shoplifting.

No it’s actually not. People have who become acclimated to the Vancouver climate find the fall and winter cold and they aren’t coming for the weather. The majority of people coming, the most being from Alberta at 25% (recent stats show the majority of homeless drug addicts on Vancouver sidewalks are Albertans), they come to set up tents and do drugs and distribute drugs because they know police aren’t enforcing any laws against, police walk right on buy people shooting up heroin, smoking crack, selling stolen goods, etc, all because the former mayor Kennedy Stewart ordered the police to decrease their presence and engagement with the people in the DTES leaving the actual disadvantaged people renting low income apartment in danger with all the drug addict criminals around them on the sidewalks. Ken Sim needs to fix this and increase the police presence and clean the sidewalks up and ignore the special interest groups that advocate for the drug addicts. With decriminalizing drugs next years it’s only going to get worse, like it has in Portland and San Francisco where they have learned decriminalizing drugs was a mistake.

There was talk of a judicial review of the original fire order. Which means lawyers representing the homeless people are going to court. They are saying the tents don't have to be removed if the government doesn't have housing for them. This was in the news a few weeks ago. I also heard that indigenous people are not moving because they are saying they have a right to be there because it's their land. This was also in the news. Just speculation on my part. I wouldn’t say Calgary is as bad as Vancouver or other west coast cities. There are definitely issues here, mostly isolated to areas next to the shelters in the Beltline and East Village. Thankfully, despite having a very “progressive” mayor, local government seems to allow the authorities/ bylaw officers to do some level of enforcement. I would like more to be done, but that’s bigger than a city issue. Province needs to step up and throw more money into institutionalizing individuals with mental health / drug addiction issues.

@@gavendano92 I'm not familiar with Beltline and East Village areas. Is that away from downtown? In my opinion, I think the situation got worse in Vancouver was because of the inaction of the previous mayor. Not blaming him for everything, but he largely disappeared. Early in the pandemic, he said Vancouver was going bankrupt. Not true at all. Later he laid the blame on the provincial and federal governments. People are moving to Calgary, The younger generations are not too optimistic about their future in Vancouver. Thanks for commenting.

Exactly. People just keep portraying all these people as innocent “homeless” victims but they’re not. They’re massive drug addicts, they’ve been offered housing recently but refused because they’d rather stay outside and do their hard core drugs all day and night, hoarding junk. They need intervention and rehab, but the instead the BC govt things providing opioid addicts with more opioids is the solution. It’s ludicrous.

I drove into the Riverview Hospital grounds yesterday the place was full of movie trucks. Is the reason they keep the place closed so this movie firm can have the whole place to themselves? They always filmed there yes but now they have full control and are remodeling the existing buildins even and destroying them for possible future patients use. Who does Hollywood North pay to use the place? And are they more of a financial gain for the gov than a financial loss if we put nurses patients Nd doctors back in there? Something is fishy here.

@@DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV Yes and this needs to be investigated because someone is benefitting financially by being paid by Hollywood North. Our vulnerable should be in thete not Hollywood North. I worked thetebfor years and they always filmedntherebbut pushed back into the corners of RVH. Usually they filmed around westlawn or Crease because thos buildings were closed since 1990. And I don't want to hear it's in BChousings hands or our natives because those are excuses.

@mickyboy159 2 года назад
We don't need more police in Vancouver. You can take all the ones that spend all their time cruising up and down Granville St. in the downtown area doing nothing but blaring their sirens day and night and use them in the DTES instead. But teach them how to be compassionate first and not ignore low-income people like myself when we've been victimized by crime and try to report it. That would save a lot of taxpayer's money instead of it being wasted, as it is. The problem is not so much the people on the street and the need for more police. The problem is much deeper, and stems from within the local government itself (including the police). You're just using the outer problems as a means to get public support for a deeper agenda.
@DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV
@DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV 2 года назад
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. A lot of it is cost cutting so everyone suffers. Hopefully things will improve for you and everyone in the DTES. Thanks for checking out my video.

@@DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV I don't see how adding 100 more police is 'cost cutting'. We already have more than we need, and they have a long record of not being the nicest people when dealing with those living on the street. Are you a reporter?

Wow, never heard of Ken until today, but so happy he defeated Kennedy Stewart. Just on first impressions he'll be great mayor - pro public safety, and look at him handing out the food making sure everyone has something to eat. Leadership as a servant. Just like Christ, the best role model to follow!
@DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV
@DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV 2 года назад
You said it nicely, "Leadership as a servant." That really impressed me about Ken. Usually mainstream media wouldn't show that kind of thing, but hey, it's my channel, so I wanted to show that side of him. Which is opposite of this woman I know. I used to belong to an organization and she is the president. One time we were having wine during a meeting and she asked me to get some wine glasses from the kitchen. No big deal, I went to get the wine glasses. As I was going to the kitchen, she quickly walked in front of me. Then when I got the wine glasses, she made sure I followed her back to the meeting room. What an ego!!! She could have just got the glasses herself since she was walking to the kitchen anyway. Whenever we had food during our meetings, I would wash the dishes after. I don't need anyone to thank me, but this same lady would say to me, "You can do the dishes because you like doing dishes." Talk about being clueless. Sorry I got a little off track here. Yes, I hope Ken will be a great mayor so we can be proud of our city again. Yes, Jesus is a great role model. Thanks for viewing my video. Thanks for commenting.

@@1summer2042 4 "so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” 7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” 8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”" John 13 4-8 This tells the story of the servant leader, setting an example for the Apostles on how to care for eachother by the foot washing. Jesus died for our sins but before he did, he provided an example for us to follow. Also regarding Jesus feeding the hungry with bread see Matthew 14-15.

Everyday it’s getting worse. I work in the area driving by Hastings as an Uber driver. I can honestly say everyday 5-10 more tents pop up. The problem is the liberal ideology in woke BC. They continue to fund the drug problem hoping it’ll either go away or stay the same. It’s only getting worse.

Finally a common sense mayor in Vancouver again. Kennedy Stewart was a total flop, ruined the city I grew up in. His endorsement from Eby, Dix and Singh only helped sink his numbers. Voters are tired of the "woke" save the planet crowd, like suing Big Oil, too many bike lanes but no road repairs, road tax when nothing is done with road improvements.

I agree. When drugs were decriminalized, no measures were taken by all levels of government, to deal with consequences. In B.C. drugs were allowed in hospitals, restaurants, businesses, in parks, on the streets and pretty well anywhere. No changes were made for a long time. Police were restricted to take any action because of the laws implemented. Thanks for checking oput my video.
