I understand the sentiment but you should really go look into the history of such places and you'd understand why they fell out of favor. I imagine this is a well intended comment though and if it were done in better ways it could potentially be a partial solution.

In 1981 president Ronald Reagan stopped the federal funding for mental institutions and resulted in closing mental hospitals which resulted in mentally ill and homeless people on the streets

I'm so glad to read this. My mom broke my heart over and over. She was an alcoholic but I loved her no matter what. My daughter unfortunately doesn't feel the same way about me and she's an addict herself. She resents and hates me. Wish she could see me as herself too. ✌️❣️

Everyone learns their own way. I had a family member with this issue but also learned about it in basic psychology courses in high school. Sometimes I empathized with them other times I did not.

Anything gender-related gets a green light these days. It's a disaster and we haven't seen the full effect yet.

Most of the time the are severely mentally I’ll and traumatized they find an escape from theirselves. That why you see so many put on the streets. Definitely not all some of them truly are and that’s why they end up out there because their family’s disown them. But sometimes they are trying to escape from who they were when they got traumatized and they just want to be a new person. Which from all the things they go through is understandable. Try seeing it from their point of view.

Have you done research on mentally illness? The onset is 18-23. If it lays dormant, drugs brings it out. Most individuals who unknowingly struggle with mental health and those who refuse treatment, usually turn to drugs. I am sorry that your son is experiencing this. Praying that he will get some counseling and medication management.

Yes there are some people on the streets with real mental illness that need to be helped but the vast majority (like 95%) have mental illness from drug abuse. There are drug maintenance programs like methadone and suboxone that are freely available. I dont think we are helping these people by making excuses for them, and allowing them to shoot up on the streets. Other countries dont have these problems because they wont stand for it.

Indeed. I really don't know of any help these days. The counselors don't have any tools and are inadequately trained. Actually, their training is to normalize this stuff. There is no place to send them for proper help and this is a prime example of the "help" they're given, ie.hormones.

We can't wait on external help, it may never come or be what we need to overcome. It sounds like we may have a similar background. My nana never felt sorry for me- she would instead tell me to pull myself up by my bootstraps. I hated hearing it for the longest time, but she was right. Addressing inadequacies in my nutrition and overall lifestyle helped a great deal. The other things that were cathartic for me were: admitting I was wrong for holding onto anger and judgment, forgiving those that caused trauma, and looking to God for guidance. Seeking a better path can be rough, but it's possible. We're not as in control as we think we are, but we're not totally helpless. I have seen the power of God work through me and pull me out of darkness, and am now leading an incredible life. I wish you all the best. Magnesium (citrate, glycinate, or threonate) was an incredible tool to help me begin to balance out my health and dependency on alcohol. 10 day Vipassana meditation is another invaluable tool, if traveling to a center is possible- it's totally free btw.

Honest question here, Do you think this person converting to a different gender will make their life better? because in my opinion if you're not accepting of yourself in the form that you are born that seems like a pretty dark road to go down. not being accepting of of your physical body is the opposite of spiritual growth. For me at least..

@@jdavid118 i think being stuck in a body and being seen as a person that you perceive yourself as not is mentally harmful so yes i do think that transitioning (even just socially, as there are a lot of side effects that a homeless woman probably doesn’t have the finances or mental well-being to deal with going through a medical transition i will give you that) is the best way going forward. And i hope that one day she will be in a physical and mental state that would allow her to live her life to the fullest. But as a transperson myself that’s my opinion…
