Billions for foreign aid, Billions in defense spending, none for our necessities, taxation with nothing in return

The cost of every single item that qualifies as a basic need has exploded since 2000. People cannot afford RENT, FOOD or a VEHICLE to get to a job. Healthcare costs, car insurance, groceries, gasoline ~ it's really a dystopian society, just few want to admit that.

Money for corrupt overseas governments, but they refuse to take care of our own in desperate need. Absolutely heartbreaking 💔😞

There are way more homeless people than that.

"A growing problem that could take decades to fix." Well, if its a growing problem, then we aren't headed toward fixing it at all. Maybe "decades to start caring about and taking the situation seriously," would be more accurate here.

The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.

They should: 1. Stop sending our own money to help other countries. Prioritize our citizens first 2. Secure the border amd deport those who are already here illegally. Prioritize our citizens first. 3. Increase minimum wage. Prioritize our citizens first. How can you provide for your family at 15/hr in New York?

For the last many decades, we’ve been treating houses as investments rather than as homes for people. What did we expect? This had to happen.

So long as housing is viewed as a commodity for profit in America homelessness will continue to get worse.

How about not allowing property monopolies? Huge corporations buying up property. No average family can compete against a corporation.

We are a 6 figure income couple and had very little saved and not much cash lying around the preverbal". '...don't have $500 for an emergency" that was us. The big thing was debt all kinds of it, cars mortgage (although our home isn't a high price one), student loans for our kids, and of course credit cards. One day we just got sick of being broke and went total scorched earth and became frugal overnight. Paid it all off, it took almost 5 years but now we have no debt and this year our savings rate is 50% on basically the same income that had us perpetually broke. So for us it is mainly staying out of debt and watching our spending, at first it was a real effort to save in our HISA and 401Ks but now it's actually fun watching our money grow. No car or vacation or neighborhood is worth being broke or financially unstable.

Typical America spent $1.7 Trillion on multiple failed F-35 jets that could have housed ALL the US homeless 29 times over. The funniest 100-million-dollar F-35 mishap was the one that fell off the bow of a huge US carrier into the South China sea. Asking the public to find another 100-million-dollar F-35 mishap. Hey, you guys, seen our jet? Haha. Only in America.

Working and homeless! The new slogan. It's not always drug addiction that leads to this. We NEED to stop this stereotype. Cost of living, especially rent is far outpacing wages which are not even remotely keeping up.. For people with no roommates or family to move in with and not making more than 75K, it's rough out there.

It's unfortunate but this issue is not only going to destroy new york but the entire United States

None of the news people ever mention the origins of the problem, we stopped building low income housing in 1981, one of the major cuts of that first Reagan tax cut, the other biggies were cuts to the state colleges, increasing tuition and the need for all those privatized student loans. The other major cut was to federal funds for health care distributed by each county, causing all the county hospitals to close and ended the free well baby care program except for WIC.

Low wages and out of control housing costs plus inflation on everything. It is only going to worsen.

the rich and the poor, thats all that will be left of this disaster.

But yet we give billions in aid to foreign countries.

Instead of sending money to Isreal or Ukraine, the US government needs to help their citizens, especially this is part of the taxpayers' money. They need to stop the corporate from hoarding the housing for the corporates' profit.

We give billions of dollars to fund the wars yet our government doesn't have money to provide shelter for this people

Talked with somebody who lives in Madison, Wisconsin. She said last year, her rent was $600/month. This year, they increased it to $1500/month. And that's somebody with a Middle Class paycheck. If a person is at the very bottom of society: They don't even have a chance.

Let's see how many houses wallstreet / hedgefunds have that they're renting to people at insane price. by 2030, 40% of single family houses will be owned by investors to rent. I dont blame some people giving up.

I cried during my visit to L.A. especially when turned onto skid row😢. I'd watched a few invisible people videos and knew what it was like there, but seeing it in person was a very different feeling

Real Estate people prioritizing the rich. And nobody else.

Even in the poorest parts of Mexico I don't see homeless like I see in the US. Almost everyone has a place to live and basic food/clothing needs met. Even the super poor are not lacking a place to lay their head at night. Of course the traditional family is still very much alive and well there and that's the big difference.

And record stocks. It's not a homeless problem, it's a housing issue and corporate greed. Homeless people aren't a problem, the society and social service infrastructure that allows them to be is.

High rent and drug addiction drive a lot of this. Drug addiction can be treated, unaffordable high rent is not treatable. Cost too much to live in these places.

Its almost like charging thousands a month for even trash tier apartments is a bad idea.

Affordable homes & universal healthcare would go a long way in helping this issue.

As a tourist in Los Angeles, you must pay a city tax, tourist tax, sales tax, resort tax, and I think one other tax... stop the ''resort tax'' bs and start a homelessness tax, since there isn't enough money to fund world crisis' and help other fellow countrymen and women...

Politicians in all these cities with overwhelming homeless could careless. In fact Politicians are the biggest problem.

In Austin, it’s at a record high too. Our City Council has tried hosting first initiatives for years and it’s failed. The homeless get temporary housing at motels and shelters that Austin turns into homeless centers. Most of the homeless can’t get or keep a job because they have drug and alcohol issues, and behavioral problems.

But the government has plenty of money and resources to send to other countries to help them

Not exactly shocking, income inequality is at an all time high as well. Housing is extortionate, entry level pay is pathetic.

I miss the day's you could buy a home from the Sears catalog for $699 while working as a clerk.

I work trying to help the homeless . Instead of focusing on the chronically homeless, we should focus on the recently homeless. The resources that are needed to help one chronically homeless, you could help 10 people. And 9 time out of 10 the chronically homeless will still lose housing.

What is going on with our society that so many people have ended up homeless? It's like you never know who it may happen to.

On average even though real estate is down a tiny bit, it's overall still more than 50% higher than precovid 2019. While hourly wage is up 9% or less (some no change). So put it to perfective if you salary is $ 3000, 9% up is only $ 3270 and if your rent was 1000 it's now 1500 or put it this way if your rent was 2000 now it's 3000.

there was a point many decades ago when people with menial jobs could buy a house and the wife stay at home with the kids or at least be in an apartment. instead we have $3 lettuce.

But let’s keep sending billions to Ukraine

Many workers can't afford the basic costs even while working. The Government can claim lowering inflation but common prices don't show it.

If your not one paycheck away from this be thankful because those folks aren’t even being counted. It’s homelessness not who’s on the verge of becoming homeless. Smh we’ve got to do something to fix this.

I mean I'm a single mom i work 5 days in a row every week and still my check is only $575-$650 and I owe $600 to rent on that check then in 2 weeks I owe $600 to daycare, the extra $50 (maximum on a good check) isn't nothing except a pack of diapers,wipes,and $15 of gas each week which I end up running out having ro count change just to get to work. I still have a $300 utility bill, plus we need food,clothes,and laundry soap and dish soap,toilet paper, deodorant, etc. I cant even afford to get car insurance which I got a ticket for and now can't get my plates renewed bc I don't have car insurance so I'm driving on suspended plates w no insurance but can't afford it literally! It's sad! This is no way to live!!

There was a time when I was a youth you could quit your job and start another in an hour or the next day! Till free trade came , then all the large manufacturing industries packed up and moved to China, Mexico, India etc. all to pay poor wages and sell the product they built back to America where homelessness started ! Greed for the almighty dollar from the rich . Buy your Buick , built and shipped from China, buy your towels and Nike shoes from under payed workers in a foreign country that gives you no cost relief. Pure greed !! Buy from your own country , if it isn’t made and produced here boycott it!

This will never be fixed

Right now, 65% of Americans say that they occasionally live paycheck to paycheck. At the same time 56% of Americans could not pull $1000 from savings in an emergency. The numbers have been within these percentages for years before anyone blames one administration or another.

We need hundreds of thousands of additional affordable housing units. Period. It’s just that simple.

You can't house illegals while Americans are homeless. Mayor Adams needs help. This is a National issue. Protect our borders. That's it.

I will Never understand how our Government thinks they can spend Billions of dollars to help other Countries when our very own people are past sufferring in every state of the USA. This is a sad situation for all and we are Praying for better.

There are a number of organizations and initiatives working to address the issue of homelessness, but more needs to be done to provide adequate support and resources to those in need. This includes increasing access to affordable housing, expanding rental assistance programs, and providing mental health and addiction treatment services.

It's so weird that US has a large land area, enough resources for housing, can produce cheap food, provide affordable education but it's like no one wants to do anything.

Companies no longer care to train new hires. People are struggling. The stock market doesn’t show our economic reality.

Your politicians and humanitarians would rather prioritize migrants.

Time for Federal Processing Centers to deal with homeless, buggers, etc. This is beyond States.

This is what happens when you instruct the Fed not to cut rates, and while predatory realtors convince people to buy homes at mortgage rates that outpace inflation leading to inevitable foreclosure.

Landlords are getting richer and richer. It’s hard ti find anything less than 1,000 a month these days. When I was at my very low I rented a couch for 400$ per month and the landlord was very good to me. You have to start from somewhere and I believe the people who are struggling the most are the ones who can’t get a break. My best advise to pray and have hope. God will open doors.

I know for a fact that my house is worth 3X what I paid for it 18 years ago. We couldn’t afford our house we live in if we bought it today!!!

Gee, I wonder why. Everything is going up except people's pay. I'm making the same amount per hour as I did back in 1995 as a Security Officer in Baton Rouge. They wanna pay people $10-$12 per hour to carry a gun and be responsible for what you do with that gun when you can make $14 per hour to fry chicken at Chik-Fil-A. Does this make any sense to ANYONE? I don't even have health insurance because I can't afford anything coming out of my check but taxes. Grocery stores and landlords and insurance companies keep getting raises, when are the people gonna get a significant raise instead of like a yearly raise of only twenty-five cents per hour. I sometimes have to buy groceries with a credit card which will eventually catch up to me because I make less than $15 per hour. You have to choose between living in a ghetto to have a decent reliable vehicle or drive a hooptie than needs constant maintenance to live in a decent area because you can't afford both at the same time. When is someone going to do something about this. You wonder why people are mass shoplifting? Probably to sell the items for extra income just to survive. I don't do this and I certainly don't condone it but I'm starting to see why. It's a way to lash out against the man because no one seems to be raising pay to meet the cost of living. HELLO!

If you want to survive try to get in Federal Prison not State or County go for the high quality federal government prisons.

With the high cost of living the homeless may be better off than we who have a job and a home

One of the major problems is we wait till people are homeless, living in a tent, or worse, till we decide to help them. Lack of affordable housing and greedflation are the major issues making the homeless problem spiral out of control. We could help every single homeless person, and there would still be a ton more people to take their place because we have not fixed the root issues causing the problem. Our politicians would rather throw tens of billions of dollars at "fixing" the homeless problem instead of making life more affordable for all of us by creating more affordable housing and taking all of these corporations to task for jacking up their prices due to "inflation" but then posting record profits. I saw this happening almost thirty years ago in Santa Monica, a city with overpriced housing and tons of homeless people. Now, this issue has spread throughout Los Angeles. The real issues are not hard to figure out; they just aren't dealt with because then it would mean that our elected politicians would have to bite the hand that feeds them.

The saddest part is once you're homeless, getting back on track becomes much harder especially if you have no job. Without an address, it's harder to get a job and get a bank account.

This is ridiculous the federal government won't do anything, to help this people but yet they want their taxes paid,by the citizens, if the math is done right 12% as in homeless people times a monthly salary of minimum $2000 a month that's equals, a small town to support it self of that same amount of 600,000 citizens. So the federal government is loosing big time on it's taxes. I hope one day all this homeless people move to ghosttowns and create their own independent community.

And what do you expect when people want to sell? Their house is more than what they even worth in the city of Oxnard it's ranked 7th as being the brokest and the most boringest, but they want to sell their houses overpriced when they're almost 100 years old

The way that things are going, people are going to be forced to live in communal settings more as in sharing a rented house out or living with landlords to attempt to cut the biggest expenses in half. Family too, they will be crammed in and forced to live with others to survive with how things are going. My parents did that when I was a child growing up in the 90s but that was then, this happening right now means the imminent depression is upon us as far as the big shakedown we're expecting. It seems that the only way out of this mess is to live overseas and work remotely since there's no way by the time you get to retirement age as a millennial that what you are making today will cover just how expensive it'll be during your 60s to 90's.

Homeless numbers are rising in many cities and with new migrants coming by the thousands is going to get even worse. San Francisco cleared the homeless camps around city hall because of the APEC but now that is over, homeless are spread all over the city.

Build back better. I wonder how many ballots will get dropped off at these tent cities?

The homeless shelter industry keeps growing! Billions of taxpayers dollars wasted on staff, databases, administration, burocrats salaries of NGOS.

Even to rent a room it's $700. I stay in a town south of LA and even a studio runs $1400, so I need first/last month, deposit and make 3x the amount a month to qualify. It's hard to get your own place

in 2017 I paid 1300$ / month / 1 bedroom rent in 2023 I pay 1900$ / month / 1 bedroom rent all 6 years in the same apartment.. and during COVID they so "gracefully" didn't increase the rent... 😆 10% increase (I believe it's maximum increase per year legally allowed in California) is guaranteed to happen every single year! I can't imagine how anyone can still afford to live in those 60-100 year old decaying buildings 😆
