IDVAs can be totally awful. I suspect a lot of IDVAs have their own history of abuse and then go hell for leather projecting their experiences on other people. The understanding of domestic abuse in the UK is woeful. Some IDVAs allow abusers to DARVO by giving credibility to abusers. Woeful.
I know some IDVAs who are decent and some that aren't. What really annoys me are IDVA teams that shrug when their clients are gatekept and don't have the guts to challenge their local council, whilst expecting their clients to have the guts to deal with the abuse they're experiencing.
I am sure there are some wonderful ones. Personally I believe this should be a degree level occupation. Only a couple of years a go the level 3 IDVA courses being run were gendered as in any reference to abuser was a man and a victim a woman. @@homelessnessbestpractice
@@soulgirl62 it’s a true statement. I have had IDVAs removed from Facebook groups for abuse. Some of them have a very anti-male agenda. It was only a few years ago when IDVA training materials listed abusers as male in their literate it’s only very recently where the genders language was removed. I suspect a lot of IDVAs move into that area after they experienced abuse which leaves them very susceptible to psychological projection. And it’s certainly true in my case my ex had an IDVA. Many years later after abusing me she started abusing out 4 year old daughter. Daughter now lives with me.
