I’ve had a similar reaction to a couple of soaps, one was one of the PAA fall releases and one T+S both had cinnamon in them, the redness went away after about 20 minutes.

Great shave and review Matt💈💈 I've sported a Vandyke for thirty years, never hindered my wet shaving in all those years. Just blow off the negative commenters👌 Cinnamon is the culprit for lots of folks, many soap makers use it for seasonal releases because of the scent🤔YMMV. This razor is a good value, appropriately priced for what you're getting IMO😉 Nice video as always, keep em' coming👍 Enjoy!

I got one earlier version Start. For the second release they'll make handle with a bit more prominent tread. Also they're changing to 316l steeel

Strangely, I had a slight reaction toWSP Sandalrose which I had used many times before. Love the soap so it will take a more severe reaction to make me toss it.

The only reaction I have had is from Proraso red. Have used other sandalwood scents, but the preshave and tub of the red slightly irritates my skin and burns a bit

Nice video and I appreciate that you compared all the baseplates with Gillette models that we know as reference. I ordered one of these and look forward to try it. How did you chop your beard....straight?? R41?? Cinnamon is bad on the skin....i mixed a couple of cheap soaps and put cinnamon and it's now useless.....(I put too much powder). Cheers

Is it aggressive as razor or similar to Rockwell..I need it for my skin to have plate number 3 what’s on Rockwell wonder if it comes with it.. Thank you Alan

Thanks for the interesting and honest review. Homelike, made a good razor of excellent quality. Most users use 0.69 for daily shaving and 0.90 for shaving after 2-3 days. It is a pity that you had an allergic reaction. Sometimes citrus oils provoke it too.

Hey, because of watching your videos, I started shaving with a DE safety razor a year ago now. The one I started shaving with though is not the once that you show in your videos. I started with a $10 safety razor that I bought at Walgreens. I think the brand is Dena. I was wondering if there is a defense between chip safety razor like the one I’m using from Walgreens and the once that you feature in your videos?

I had a similar reaction with a chai tea scented soap. It was on clearance, there were reviews that mentioned the redness and even a warning on the tub about possible irritation. So I really should have paid attention to that and obviously the company stopped making that scent.

Haven't tried the rocky mountain myself can't be of much help with that, as with almost all the other products I've tried so far so good, but then again YMMV

Along the lines of old razor designs repeating over and over, the new Gillette razor seems as though someone stuck an Edwin Jagger head on a '30s Gillette bar handle (chrome plated, not gold). I desperately hope someone can explain why I'm wrong. Please.

How does this compare to the Rockwell interchangeable system? I agree, there isn't too much that can be developed with a completely new concept. Jim G.

Did you have any problems with tracking information for your order for this razor? I ordered in late October and have not received any tracking information since November 6th.

I have not had any reactions with any soaps or creams yet. Though I am still trying out different ones. I have had reactions with some of the "canned goo" gels/creams etc. and cheaper bargain disposable razors (especially those.)

Hi Matt- Great shave and razor/ soap review; thank you! This does seem like a nice razor. Sorry about the soap reaction- cinnamon oil can definitely be the culprit. I avoid it, as well as clove oil; no Bay Rhum or Christmas scents for me, at all, unfortunately! On a side note, your facial hair should be based on your personal preferences and you should do whatever makes you happiest (and handsomsest)!! Best regards, my friend!

Hello Nice shave. I would recommend a very good soap. Try the Pere Lucien all natural unscented soap. I love it. That Start razor looks good. Let me ask Start vs. Razorock gamechanger .84 who wins??

Center pin / length of thread seems too short, even without the washer. and may not allow enough secure loosening to rinse the razor, as would be needed several times during a shave. But my visual impression might be incorrect, should the handle does thread in home with at least four full turns. Thank you for the video.

Jaw dropped as you hooked out the plate with the handle😁 Seems to be a bit of a surprise that razor in that what would be considered aggressive, is coming across as beautifully mild.

I see that Homelike Start Razor stopped their affiliate program. In an email to me, they said that the affiliate program was not working for them. That is too bad because I think it is a good razor.

Hi Matt, I had a very mild reaction to "Shanghai" from Wild West Shaving Co. It lists cinnamon as a scent, but only says fragrances in the ingredients. I'm pretty sure that I would have the same reaction as you on that particular soap. Thanks for the info.

Actually your review on this is Good Honest.. Two things I could be wrong sorry to say this.. Comparing price wise Homelike vs Karve..hmmm Homelike seem to be smoother shaver offer more and better Packaging.. Rockwell Razor take a look packaging what it comes with and Price?? You don’t actually have a goatee. A goatee is just the chin whiskers with no mustache - you see this on MLB players sometimes. A Van Dyke is a mustache and chin whiskers but they are detached - Johnny Depp. You have a beard or sometimes referred to as a circle beard.

Seriously if I'm in a Hotel room, or even at home shaving, I'll have my tooth brush nearby. A toothbrush hand would work fine prying those plates out....

Hello! Razor Start, and Taiga and other homelike razors, I consider bad, poor geometry, poor quality and a lot of defects. Very poor service if razor is defective. I do not recommend homelike Russian razors

Sorry, but I just can't agree with a slippery handle thing. It is just not. The handle and the razor are perfect. The packaging is made tight fitting to protect the razor and the plates from wobbling and shaking during a delivery from Siberia to the US Southwest to give a recipient the best possible result. The razor is meticulously designed and made by people who love shaving and know all the ins and outs of a good tool to start(or finish) a day with. A bit biased review Matt.

Sounds like it's you who is being biased tbh. The whole point of a review is to give an honest opinion. Packaging that makes extrication of the product difficult is not good packaging. You really should not have to resort to using an implement to get it out....

The question about you having a goatee while owning your own shaving business drives me insane. You still shave when growing facial hair!! Why, are men unable to comprehend this? Not everybody wants to look the same way, all the time, forever. It's boring. Most of our gfs, or wives go on in and get their hair styled into another cut, then dyed as the seasons change. Try ignoring her after she comes home with it and mention "honey, don't you get your haircut soon?" See, how she reacts to that. Point being, if our significant others change their hair and style as the seasons change, then they probably like when we mix it up every so often and change our look. One of easiest ways is to grow out our beards and pick a new style that works. Change your haircut to something that reflects your beard and own your look. Same haircut, same clean shave for years (obviously, excluding anybody that works in Fire Departments, Law enforcement or Military) gets pretty damn boring. But hey, to each their own. Just leave the beardsmen hate out of it as well. Your goatee would look bad ass grown in at a 4 guard at the barber shop, with cheeks and jawline at a 2 guard, then clean neckline!
