I rarely say this, but this video may well kill someone, or worse, many people. Ball park numbers, Air is about 1kg/m3 and is at room temperature (~300 Kelvin) Dry ice is about -88C (212 Kelvin, 44g./mol, comparable to air). Practically this means to lower the room temperature by 10C means the final atmosphere will be about 10 % carbon dioxide. That will be fatal in about 30 minutes.
No, you'll get that temperature by using less dry ice than 10% of the atmosphere (after evaporization), because of the enthalpy. It takes away extra heat from the envinorment to change the consistency of the dry ice from a solid to a gas.
gelyn miranda English is not my first language, so I'm not sure about the names (I used google translator), but by the amount of energy needed for the consistency change, I basically meant the definition what you said. Enthalpy is the overall energy of a closed system.
Just finished this project and got it running. Seems to be blowing nice and cold. I'll post a full review tomorrow after I get some rest. Guess building it really wiped my energy out.
Thanks for this, my family and I couldn't sleep because our rooms were too Hot. Now they are very cold and we are sleeping like little angels, my wife hasn't woken up for 2 days bless her!
+Aleksander Mogila It's shameful that he made that _negligently understated_ correction to the title instead of _at least_ taking down the video. If - and hope it's not going to be _when_ - someone dies because of this contraption, I trust that the Russian will at last find himself in very serious trouble.
+Billy the Kid Dunker You all forgot the biggest risk, CO2 is heavier than air, so it will gather on the ground. It may not be enough to kill an adult, but small children or animals like a cat will be dead in a few minutes. Just don't use dry ice inside a house
+Theo Volz same, he is wide open for a lawsuit if someone were to get injured or die from following his instructions. absolutely no warning about CO2. Man I used to think this guy was kinda cool , but this is moronic.
+stultz14 dunno what you are talking about, he has blatantly covered him self by changing the title of the video to "use ice from water for better effect" he is now above the law
Thunderfoot just made a video about this video. And just to let the people who doubt this is dangerous. HE IS A SCIENTIST AND HE SAID YES THIS MAY KILL YOU!!!
You don't have to be a scientist to know this is a fucking stupid idea. Any high school student with one year of chemistry could see the danger in this contraption.
Brendan McCoy CO2 will kill you if it pushes most of the oxygen out of the room since it's heavier and therefore more likely to stay in place in the room.
Next video: We show you how to heat your house with your car's exhaust. P.S. CrazyRussianHacker already took a similar comment down before simply because he didn't like it...something what scared little kid would do ))
If safety really was your number one priority, you would be wearing gloves when handling dry ice, and you should know of the safety concerns of using fans to blow around dry ice fumes in a confined space. Its just dangerous. If anyone decides to do this project at home, use normal ice, NOT DRY ICE!
You should remove this video before someone actually tries this idea and kills their self. If someone used this in a confined space or got in the floor with it they would probably go to sleep and never wake up. At the very least, they would probably kill their pets.
***** This isn't really natural selection though. It's not like someone walks into the middle of the highway thinking nothing will go wrong. Plenty of people don't know what dry ice is made of.
***** Your idea is very flawed. There are many cases of people of "Average" intelligence giving birth to "geniuses". Just because someone is dumb,it does not necessarily mean their offspring will be dumb. As for the case of dry ice, if someone did not know what dry ice was but looked it up and found out it was dangerous, then they pass but if they choose not to look it up.....oh noes how sad.
Bayezid "Just because someone is dumb, it does not necessarily mean their offspring will be dumb." No, it means their offspring is more likely to be dumb... so his point still stands.
You can't sue someone because you're an idiot and followed their idiot advice. You're an adult, and if you do something dumb that hurts yourself, you have no one to blame but yourself for not knowing that it would hurt yourself, especially in the internet age where you can easily find out this shit.
***** A woman tried to dry her wet cat in a microwave oven with the result you can imagine. She sued the company that made the microwave oven because they did not include in the instruction manual that you can't dry your pets in one. She won.
I'm not the smartest guy on the planet but isn't dry ice frozen liquid carbon dioxide? And isn't breathing massive amounts of carbon dioxide not really a good idea? I'm genuinely curious I might be completely off base here. Sure looks awesome though!
What's next? Let me guess; maybe a hack for those cold nights. Like dropping a plugged in appliance (perhaps a toaster) in the bathtub with you, to heat up the water. So you don't have to use the houses water heater...
Hey dude. Don't DMCA your critics. Don't DMCA anyone who didn't rip one of your videos and re-upload it in its entirety, or in part with no transformative commentary.
to people who are saying co2 is not that harmful there is at least 2 kg of dry ice in the bucket which is about 2000/44.1 = roughly 45.45 moles of CO2 which at STP will occupy 1000 ltrs of volume so there is quite a lot of CO2 there
He used dry ice in the air conditioner because he’s outside in his patio. But if your made this you should use ice cubes or bottles of water that has need in the freezer.
Remember kids, before you do this make sure you lock all your windows air-tight and plug all the holes with towels or something. You wouldn't want all that cool air to get out now would you?
