***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

We have learned that if you put your jars in the oven on low about 200 degrees the jars are all warm before you fill . We stack them on there side as many as we plan on using and pull them out as we use them. You don’t have all the water to mess with. Easy peezy !

Awesome video! I don't have that canning book, just the old thin book from years ago. Did you know that that book now sells from 60 to 400 dollars right now? Everything related to food, food growing, or food preserving is either sky high in price, or just can't be found right now, because of the pandemic. So I will make do. Maybe see if the library has the book to write down recipes from.....if and when the library opens up again.....boy are things different now.

Isn’t it fun to make stuff like that? Not long ago, early this summer, I was out of BBQ sauce AND ketchup, which I usually use as the basis for a quick sauce. But I didn’t have onyone to go to the store for me that day and being in quarantene since I’m really at risk, I figured I’d just use some of the canned tomatoes I bought so cheap a while ago. So I started by cooking ketchup and then added to it to make it a BBQ sauce. I can’t have it too hot, so I usually am very careful sriracha. And I thought I was... You can probably guess what happened... The day after, it was so hot it was inedible for me, so I had to start over and make a whole new batch, so I could mix the two... At least it got really good, it’s all gone already, actually! And I learned that making it from scratch is easy too and I just love it! NB! I love it quite thick and sweet, so I had to cook it down quite a bit. I hate cooking tomatoes, as they easily make a mess, if you don’t have a splatter guard etc. I put them in my Instant Pot and set the valve to venting, then set it to cook (on the beans setting, I think). That way it let steam out, and cooked safely, with all splatter just hitting the lid. The IP will always tell you the second you get a little spot of burning to the bottom, so not stirring is no worry, if you get a problem, you’ll know about it. Saves you a lot of work! A crockpot or slow cooker would probably do the same job! I want to have it as smooth as possible, so I let my high speed blender to work and it worked great, it got smooth and I didn’t get rid of any of the goodness. One thing I have thought of later, is that I wonder if it wouldn’t have been yummy to add quite a bit of homemade carrot powder. It is just so sweet and yummy... Otherwise I use it a lot as a sweet spice. Otherwise, I guess that my two must have’s are worcestershire sauce, molasses and of course liquid smoke. And, when I had to make that extra ketchup batch, I ended out making a very lucky discovery, a little by accident. I was running real low on balsamic vinegar, which I had added because it makes the tomato sauce taste like it’s been cooking goodness for 12 hours OSLT ☺️. So what should I do? I remembered that I had some of what has been dubbed «white balsamic» (which really doesn’t exist, but some saw a need, you don’t always want that bacl stuff to ruin your pretty-looking food). It’s white wine vinegar mixed with concentrated white grape juice, it’s called «Condimento Bianco», soooo sweet and rich in flavor, without the color, so I think the nickname «White Balsamic» is very fitting. I haven’t made a reduction or syrup from it yet (like I’ve done with balsamic since before we could buy ready-made condiments) but I MUST MUST MUST! It’s soooo good! So that ketchup batch I made with Condimento Bianco and Apple Cider vinegar, OMG, it was soooo yummy! Never thought I’d say that about ketchup, but about this homemade variety I sure will! You should try it if you make ketchup. And also, I went diabetic, so I make both with no ordinary sugar. I use a 0 cal brown «Sugr» (it’s called «Sukkr»), it is cranberry based in combo with stevia, erythritol and some Natreen. It tasted perfectly sugar sweet, with none of the unpleasent after-taste some of these can give. I think the secret is to combine them, not to use a lot of one, that is always problematic. And mixed with the molasses, it tastes like you just used a lot of dark brown cane sugar - YUUUUM! OMG, this got long, I’ll step off my soap box now - got excited, as this kind of experimenting is darn fun. Most of us grew up believing that some things just aren’t for home making, but most of the time it’s wrong! 😊

My recipe starts off with Ketchup not purée nor sauce. My first try. I canned caramelized , balsamic onions . I want to pour some of these in my sauce but I’m not sure how that sounds. I’ll put them in my processor to chop them smaller. They are delicious but I think it will add a nice flavor to my bbq sauce . What do you think

Yes, canning 101. One thing nobody ever mentions is how much water to put in the water bath caner. The ridges on the caner actually mean something. The lower ridge is the level of water for 7 quart jars. The next level up indicates the water level for 7 pint jars. The next ridge indicates the water level for 7 !/2 pint jars. Have you ever placed your jars into a water bath to find the water level is overflowing?

Canning is a good idea.I tried that once years ago it didn't turn out so well. lol I like to watch you cook it's calming. Reminds me of when I was a kid and would stand on a chair and watch my. aunt cook. :) Also I like to watch you bake bread and rolls. Especially since I found out there's all kinds of stuff in the bread etc we buy in the store. Raisin bread would be a good idea to. It's expensive in the store and I love it. Just curious.......is there a reason you always wear a cap? just wondering.

Nutmeg is a surprising ingredient along with cinnamon! Might have to try this. A small tip...place a small tea towel under your cutting board so it doesn't move on you!😊

Too complicated! Just bring souce to boil and while it boiling , put it in sterilised jars and cover tight right away. Turn jars upside down an cover with blanket. Its more easy and not time consuming. Italians, russians do that all the time and its perfectly fine. I do it for years and never do stupid jars boiling.

Hi, im new to your channel and I like your videos! I was wondering if you ever have time to make Pepper jellies, maybe you can do a canning 101 video about that? I was thinking of doing them this season and would love to see you make a video or two! Let me know what you think and it could be something else you could sell at the flea market!

I like the recipe but I like a smoky flavor to my bbq sauce. Is there a natural way to get the smoky flavor without using liquid smoke from the store?

For lemon juice ..when you see lemons on sale juice them and pour into VERY small icecube trays and freeze. then pop out and put into a freezer bag. when you need use one frozen and for lemonaid 1 and some sugar in a big glass of water . You need very small ice cube trays though.

how do i know Amazon is giving you credit for the items i buy from your amazon link? I bought something frm a general amazon link, but then went and added it from your link... Amazon did not show a difference. I then deleted one of the items, but have no idea how it is giving you credit
