In New Zealand and Australia we call them Scones, also we use a bread and butter knife to mix never a spoon. Your scones look delicious.

Oh wow - I have never been able to make good biscuits, and it's flustered me so much, because generally, I am a really good cook! So this is something that has eluded me for years. However - I truly believe that with your recipe and tips, I will be able to do it! There are several things that you did here that I haven't been doing, and I think it will make ALL the difference!! For one, you used cold butter - and grated it. I have used melted and/or room temperature margarine. Second, you used buttermilk, not regular milk! And third - you didn't beat it up a lot -- you only stirred it just enough to incorporate it. Finally, you baked them at a higher temperature - I have done them at 350 - 375 - and you baked them in a skillet, too - not on a baking sheet! So I am very excited to try it again, with your tips! And I'm going to check out your strawberry jam recipe, too! Thank you!! Thumbs up!!

My mother was a wonderful southern cook and we grew up eating biscuits and apple butter or honey or gravy, etc. Part of every day life we took for granted. I married into a family of picky eaters who will not eat them so restaurants are where I relive the biscuit memories, lol! And vicariously through RU-vid apparently!

Great recipe. I’ll be trying soon. One ‘seasoned u-tuber suggested a 500 degree oven for her biscuits. The cook hot and fast. Don’t get a chance to dry out plus reducing the risk of overtaking. Works!!!

I think grating the butter is the best hack when it comes to making biscuits. Who knew it could be this easy! Whenever I make pie crust, another great hack I’ve discovered is using the food processor to cut in my flower and shortening and I make the dough right there with it. The food processor makes pie crust almost as easy as Pillsbury! I wouldn’t recommend it for biscuits though, unless you like biscuits that could cut glass! 😂

Thanks for the comment! You're absolutely right, though. You can't use the food processor for biscuits!

The measurements are given in the video! 4 cups of self-rising flour, 1 stick cold butter (1/2 cup) and 2-2 1/2 cups buttermilk (only as much as needed until dough barely comes together). Be sure to watch the video to catch the tips needed for the technique, though! Thanks for the comment.

Howw. much butter
@MaryKatherinesTable
@MaryKatherinesTable 2 месяца назад
One stick of butter, which is 1/2 cup, is in the recipe. I also use a little butter to coat the iron skillet and then a little melted butter to brush the tops of the biscuits. That would only be about 1 tablespoon for the skillet and about 1 tablespoon for the tops of biscuits. Thanks for watching!

If one pays attention ….. three ingredients is not “rocket science” I’m 70 and can tell you verbatim what’s in this recipe… 3 Cups self rise flour 1 Stick frozen butter / grated 1 cup or less buttermilk … or vinegar added to sweet milk to substitute for buttermilk… Butter cast iron pan … 410’ preheated oven 15 minutes Melted Butter brushed tops when removed … That it…
