I had to watch this to compare to my grandfather s recipe. Lol his used whole vanilla bean and 6 months steep time. I of course went with pure extract, not patient. The one variance I did was to use brewed coffee instead of water and coffee crystals. A rich coffee flavor.
Thank you for sharing. Your recipe is much easier than mine. One thing I do is put a vanilla bean in the bottle. The longer the vanilla bean is in the kahlua, the richer the kahlua becomes.
Yes, I like. Definitely make it accessible is my motto. There's all sorts of fancy recipies, but they take an off-putting amount of time and expense for many of us out there, especially in these times unfortunate austerity.
I suggest to help it's shelf life and taste, put about a marble size of dry ice in it. The dry ice will sublimate and displace the oxygen in the bottle. Once the dry ice has sublimated cap the bottle.
I'd recommend grinding coffee very coarse, like only breaking the beans into 3-4 parts and soaking the beans in some fairly neutral rum (e.g. B***rdi White). Leave the beans soaking for a month, then use paper filters to filter it. That will give you much better result than any kind of instant coffee. All the other things (sugar, vanilla) is fine.
very cool, thank you! Also I pove the Medaglia D'Oro espresso powder, I use it for anything, coffee yogurt, coffee ice cream, cake frosting... So good.
I wish they'd make a measuring cup where most of the liquid didn't run down the side! LOL Can't wait to try this. Been wanting to make my own kahlua for a really long time!
Well, aren't you the little bootlegger!!!! LOL I make moonshine and mead. It's kind of a family tradition. My mom's side of the family WERE bootleggers!!! They were from the bootheel of Missouri. They had a bootlegging operation since the 1800s. They also used to run their homemade hootch up to the speakeasies in St Louis and Chicago during the Prohibition. 😁😁😁
Thanks for this recipe. Kahlua is so expensive and this is way more affordable. By the way, I am a new subscriber as of today. I just love how patient you are and how informative all your videos are. Keep being authentic!
when you stated that your husband said 'no' to buying the 915 all american pressure cooker for christmas should be a HUGE pat on the back for brian. because he loves his wife sooooooo much he said 'no just go ahead and get it'. Christmas is not about giving expensive items (cars, diamonds, excetera) just for that special day. true LOVE over rules consumer driven exploitation's. Bravo! Brian!
friends, if you want your kahlua to have viscosity like actual kahlua, just add 1 and a half cup of corn syrup instead of one of two cups of sugar, do everything else according to the recipe.
I wish I'd seen this before Christmas but it's still cold outside and that would sure go down easy! I'm going to check your Amazon site, I think it was an Amazon link, because I'm wondering where you got those containers. Will check the comments, too. Thank you!
It is so good! I made this with the Esspresso powder which is a little strong for me, but I know Brian and others love it. But be sure to try the Toasted Almond!
☕] " Vickie, thanks for sharing your recipe for Kahlua with your viewers. I have not had Kahlua in close to forty years and it is time to try it again ! " ... LoL
This sounds like it would taste like Tia Maria.. I'm definitely going to be trying this 😋😁👍 update.. Made it and it's so good and crazy savings making it yourself lol.. Thanks again for the recipe 😁
Thank you!! I knew there had to be a way.. I'm so glad I found your channel.. New year for me is March.. And, this and a few others of your recipes, will be on the cocktail table. Thank you for sharing. Subscribing
The only alcohol I like at all is kaluha. I've made before. Was lovely neat but if added a mixer like coke it splits the recipe up and just tastes like rum and coke. Because although this lady is using vodka kaluha is actually made with white rum.
Rondon cat I seem to think the recipe I used before was a bottle white rum. Bottle dark rum. Brown sugar and white sugar. I couldnt get kaluha here in the uk. But I can now. And it's often on offer. Only reason I'm thinking of making some is caffeine keeps me awake all night. So making it I can use decaf 🤗🤗🤗
Not sure on this but you mightvwant to explore how your dried coffee was made. I understand that the process includes formaldehyde. If that is accurate, you may want to use the real thing. I condence my coffee in my percolator. The use of vanilla was a great idea. Thanks or sharing.
Real Kahlua is made with rum and that's what I put in mine. I'm not criticizing. I've tried it with vodka and it is much better with rum. Give it a try. It might change your mind.
This is an easy one! Definitely gotta try this. I’ve seen the complicated ones with coffee beans and steeping and all that. Who has time for that! A shot of amaretto poiredvover a scoop or two or three of really good quality vanilla ice cream is fantastic. Kahlua might be good as well, but Amaretto is fantastic! Thank you Vickie. These videos are great!
Hi I made your homemade Kahlua 4 days ago and it taste great, but today I noticed the sugar is settling in the bottom of the jar. I did boil the water and sugar an simmer 10 minutes. What can I do to fix this or what might I of done incorrect. Love your videos.
Vicki thanks for reply. I don't drink but would love to make this for Christmas gifts next year.if I made this in summer would it still be OK to drink at Christmas thanks
This was very interesting and very different then my recipe.. What was the proof of the vodka? I make mine w/ Everclear.. and it sits for a bit.. Yum.. looked very delicious.. and a nice after dinner drink. Thanks for sharing..
