As a gigging keyboard player, I watch all sorts of videos to pick up ideas an, tips etc. Recently, I've started getting interested in woodworking and I've noticed that most woodworking videos have no narration and are recorded at his speed. This video highlights this. A normal musician explaining his keyboard and problems. As soo as he goes to the woodworking bit, the speech stops and the video goes fast. Remarkable!
Super impressed! The creative part of your brain really got a work out! I am thinking of building a case for my son's Yamaha keyboard; it's already so big and heavy, I was going to make it mostly of fabric with some reinforcement. How heavy do you think your case ended up being? Kudos on creating something that worked for you, thanks for showing us and for your updated comments on how it has held up.
Cool, I'm enjoying seeing the progress on your one too. I don't do custom fitted cases very often but the cheapest option for a bass would be to buy one off the shelf, then cut the shape out of a block of foam and install it. I'll be going over that at some point in the next series (spoiler alert: double neck flying v, filming begins in a few days😉)
So here's my plan, and we will totally see if it works. I have a used hollow core door. I'm gonna use the door frame for the sides of the case and the door panels for the top and bottom. Like I said, we will see. 😂 But so far, I've only spent $15 on all the hardware (found it all used) and the door was free.
The ball corners came from a local sound hire company. For a large scale operation like that it makes a lot of sense to build their own flight cases so they usually have all the parts. Other things like latches and hinges and the handle were just from a local hardware store. Cheers and good luck.
Great question, yes it's holding up fine, the little screw holding the string on has made a dent in the edge of the keyboard, so that's a design fail. The cheap foam has held up but is showing signs of beginning to smell, I'm a little worried about it starting to fail so soon I'm going to replace it with polyetheylene foam which is much more stable and safe for electronics. Thanks for asking, cheers.
